A classic strange cyclops-looked three-wheeler made in Japan

What Do U Think About IT Well on this occasion we will talk about a tiny unique classic vehicle made by a Japanese car maker of the 1950s called Fuji Cabin Model 5A. At first glance, this three-wheeled vehicle has a unique cyclops-like appearance (in modern day might be similar to Mike Wazowski, a main character of the Disney-Pixar's Monsters, Inc. animated series) if we've seen from front.

The such type of vehicle story began shortly after the country's defeat in World War 2 is believed that was one of the Japan's companies effort to survive. Well, this effort is also what the Diesel Automobile Manufacturing Company done after its car-making division divided into the Hino truck and Isuzu car manufacturing businesses while the aviation division became Hitachi Aviation in March 1946.
This is the Fuji Cabin Model 5A of the 1950s worthy to be crowned as the most unique look three-wheeler ever made by Japanese company. (Picture from: CarStyling.ru)
In that time developing new aviation technology was strictly forbidden by the Allies, as it was considered a war industry. So Hitachi Aviation, as well as other aircraft companies, tried to survive in non-war-related industries. The company subsequently changed its name to the Tokyo Gas and Electric Manufacturing Company in 1952, and began producing 60cc engines for motorbikes and had established itself as an engine producer of mainly small two-stroke engines.

Then it merged with a Tokyo-based manufacturing company, Fuji Toshuda Motors of Tokyo and started to build their own motorcycles under the names of Fuji Motor and Gasuden FMC, besides supplied engines to other motorcycle makers. As time goes by, the company is decided to produce a kind of scooter with the roof or what we've known later as a micro car.

The mentioned micro cars was designed by Ryuichi Tomiya whose before the war had been in charge of body design at Nissan Motors, and afterwards he was responsible for the design of the Suminoe Flying Feather for Suminoe Manufacturing, of which 150 examples were built between 1954 and 1955. His work was highly respected, which later made him known as the 'Leonardo da Vinci of Japan'.
The Fuji Cabin Model 5A has a glassfibre bodyshell built on monocoque construction and also equipped with a single headlight, strengthened by a full-length tunnel bringing cooling air directly to the engine. (Picture from: Below The Radar)
And the Tomiya's masterpiece is the Fuji Cabin appeared for the first time at the 1955 Tokyo Motor Show as a streamlined two-seater three-wheeled coupé, and powered by a 122cc single-cylinder Gasuden scooter two-stroke engine with kick start. The unique look vehicle has a glassfibre bodyshell built on monocoque construction and also equipped with a single headlight, strengthened by a full-length tunnel bringing cooling air directly to the engine.
The Fuji Cabin Model 5A appears to have been designed only to be driven by those of small stature like many of the Japanese at the time, as the car's interior was ludicrously cramped. (Picture from: Below The Radar)
So that when viewed from the front it looks like a creature of Greek mythology, the cyclops. While at rear, there were two rounded beetle-wing lids providing access to the motor and allowing warm air to exit. At first there was a single door on the left, but later cars got one for each side.

The Fuji Cabin Model 5A appears to have been designed only to be driven by those of small stature like many of the Japanese at the time, as the car's interior was ludicrously cramped, with far too much effort required to climb over the central tunnel to get into the staggered driver’s seat.
The Fuji Cabin Model 5A three-wheeled vehicle is a fairly good product with a sturdy construction, but also has a poor quality of bodyshell due to the maker having lack experience working with glassfibre. (Picture from: Below The Radar)
Unlike ordinary cars, the Fuji Cabin is controlled by a set of handlebars positioned close to the driver's seat for comfort, and is equipped with a small but well-engineered transmission system that incorporates a reverse gear; something unusual for a typical Western-scooter engined microcar. At that time Fuji Cabin three-wheeled vehicle was planned to be made as many as 400-500 per month, but in fact only 85 units were made all during its short production period from 1957 to 1958.
In general, the Fuji Cabin Model 5A is a fairly good product with a sturdy construction, but that doesn't mean there are no drawbacks, it's because the makers having lack experience working with glassfibre, so its bodyshell has poor quality. Besides that its sale was not a success partly because considered to be an expensive vehicle and also Fuji had no experience of marketing.

Jakusa designed the Atlantico in harmony with the 1936 Bugatti models

Vintage STYLE Here's that would be happens when the design of car and motorcycle mated so that becomes an integral modification products. This is the result of creative hand sketches of Hungarian automotive designer, Tamás Jakus back in 2012 through his automotive design sites, Jakusa Design when generated a virtual custom motorcycle concept called Jakusa Atlantico Concept.
The Jakusa Atlantico ia a retro-themed big motorcycle concept designed by Tamás Jakus back in 2012. (Picture from: Bugatti Revue)
The unique motorcycle concept painted the blue-sky color with rounded body shape that characterizes the pre-war design. Its front wheels wearing a special beautified tire cover with stainless trims as a characteristic features of the vintage cars, while machinery sector closed frame shaped like the Bugatti's front grille. At the front it looks very minimalist which only has a small single headlight mounted slightly lower than the handlebar and look contrastly to its massive tank.
2012 Jakusa Atlantico virtual motorcycle concept inspired by the famous Bugatti classic model. (Picture from: Bugatti Revue)
So when we seen the Jakusa Atlantico, there're very thick Bugatti's aroma, due to both designs are highly related to one another, as You could be seen when the motorcycle is posed along with the Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic of the 1936. It will be seen very clearly that the Jakusa Atlantico motorcycle concept is actually a two-wheeled version of the mentioned Bugatti classic car.

The Jakusa Atlantico's shape which designed in harmony with the aerodynamic side of Bugatti Type 57SC, so they are made complementary forms. Through the design that also very unique, so it is difficult seem to find a wonderful blend of cars and motorcycles such as Bugatti and Jakusa today, that's the skill of the designer who can see and then put it in the form of a design such like this or another unique works of his called NMoto Golden Age.
2012 Jakusa Atlantico motorcycle concept is virtually posed along with 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic. (Picture from: Bugatti Revue)
In Our opinion that's such of a kind designer's ways to adjusting the width of a large rear body that way the body and legs seem to be nice and proportional. Unfortunately the virtual motorbike is designed just for single person only, and if could be realized into real one someday, We thought also worthied to have a Harley-Davidson engine under the seat as its drivetrain.🤔

We're sorry, the following video is not about the motorcycle being discussed but another works of Tamás Jakus.

Finally the AMB-001 delivered to its respective owner after two years on hold

Fast MotorBike As we all know, Aston Martin, one of the British premium car manufacturers made a breakthrough by creating the first stunning fast motorcycle called the AMB-001 back in 2019.

The racing track purposed superbike was the collaboration result with the motorcycle maker, Brought Superior and produced in a limited number of 100 units only. It is known that the fast motorcycle was first launched as a concept at the Milan Motorcycle Show (EICMA) 2019.
Finally Aston Martin delivered 30 units of the obly superbike they ever made, the Aston Martin x Brough Superior AMB-001 to their special customers who have been willing to wait for two years (in pictured posed along with the Aston Martin DBX SUV). (Picture from: OtomotifSindoNews)
As quoted of MotorcycleNews, finally Aston Martin delivered as many as 30 units of the only superbike they ever made to their special customers who have been willing to wait for two years. And the delivery was made after both of them felt enough to test those fast motorbike.

"We are very pleased that we have succeeded in achieving our desired performance target with a maximum power of 183 horsepower. The AMB-001 is a racing bike that can be drive by the senses of its rider and the bike's performance," said the Brough Superior President, Thierry Henriette.
Strictly limited to just 100 examples, the track only AMB-001 represents the union of iconic Aston Martin design and stat-of-the-art Brough Superior engineering to create a piece of automotive art for the motorbike connoisseur. (Picture from: SIAMagazine)
Actually Aston Martin and Brough Superior have trying to accelerate the production of the super motorbike. However, when the global Covid-19 pandemic occurred, they were forced to postpone the production process of the fast motorcycle. So that the vacant time was then used by the motorcycle maker to test the AMB-001 to make it more perfect when sent to consumers (as you could be seen on the video below while the bike on on test at the France's Pau-Arnos track).
Many of the Aston Martin x Brough Superior AMB-001 units should be postponed its production and delivering process almost two years due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. (Picture from: LapTrinhX)
The Aston Martin x Brough Superior AMB-001 is powered by a forced induction 997 cc V-twin engine with a supercharger and a turbocharger capable of spitting out power of up to 180 hp, and is combined with a 6-speed transmission. Interestingly the weight of the motorbike only reaches 180 kilograms. So in terms of power distribution, the AMB-001 really has fantastic capabilities. The reason is that every 1 horsepower in the motorbike can push every 1 kilogram of the motorbike's weight.

As quoted of Robb Report, Aston Martin and Brough Superior plan to make 100 units of the superbike. Of course, because currently 30 units have been sent, there are still 70 units left that can be bought by other motorbike connoisseurs.
While the motorcycle was sold at a price of US $108,000 (approx Rp. 1.54 billion). With that price, the owner of the AMB-001 will get and can ride a unique design racing track purposed motorbike with fierce performance.

Here's the oldest Harley Davidson in the world

Number ONE Everything in this world must have a beginning, as well as automotive products. Now on this occasion we will discuss a little about the first motorcycle products produced by the famous American motorcycle manufacturer Harley Davidson Motorcycle Company.
1904 Harley Davidson Serial Number One at the Harley Davidson Museum in Milwauke. (Picture from: WikiPedia)
When you visit the Harley Davidson Museum in Milwauke, United States, the figure of a classic dates to the 1903-04 era motorcycle called Harley Davidson Serial Number One greets your eyes when entering the lobby.

The classic motorbike mentioned above then, is not the very first mentioned but it is the first true Harley Davidson motorcycle as they were later developed. The company founders built at least one prototype before it and, of course, production machines after it that differed both in the power of the engine and in general configuration.
The Harley Davidson's Shed. This is not the original shed, but rather a replica that was build based off historical photographs, and it sits just outside the Harley Davidson Museum. (Picture from: Motorcycle)
Meticulous research by HD Archives staff and external experts proved that Harley Davidson Serial Number One was built without fenders and used in competition, probably to illustrate the power and reliability of the motor. After all, as the company name implied, Harley Davidson Motor Company sold motors as well as motorcycles.
Left side view of 1904 Harley Davidson Serial Number One at the Harley Davidson Museum. (Picture from: Motorcycle)
Instead, it is the developmental platform from which the first true Harley Davidson street motorcycles emerged. Overall it could be said to be the first Harley Davidson motorcycle was not an intact motorcycle as usual considered ready for production with some improvements so that's appropriate to bear as a street machine.

Its engine is very early, circa 1903, but doesn’t match what experts know about the first engines produced by Harley Davidson. While its frame came of the 1905, not original to this motorcycle. These anomalies have sparked much debate among HD experts and historians.
During the 1990s, the bike’s restorers discovered a number “1” stamped inside various components, inspiring the bike’s nickname. There is not much else known about the Serial Number One, but due to all the questions it’s raised, it’s become one of the Harley Davidson's legendary motorcycle. However, one thing is for sure: This is the oldest Harley Davidson in the world.

A unique French track driven motorcycle

Unusual Locomotion Before the outbreak of World War II, many unique and strange war equipments had been created by many countries as a superiority form of the technology mastery and science.

One of the unique war equipments of that time named Mercier Moto Chenille, a track motorcycle is made by the Swiss inventor, Adrien Mercier in Bois-Colombes for the French military purposes in 1937. From its shape alone can be sure the vehicle is far from comfortable when riding it.
1937 Mercier Moto Chenille. (Picture from: Unusuallocomotion)
This Mercier motorcycle has a long tubular rear frame which supports the motorcycle saddle and fuel tank. Besides the use of track at front like tanks or tactical armored vehicles that is also supported with a rubber wheel sized of 270 x 90 at the rear.

From the rear wheel to the front there are two skids, supporting the collapsible foot rests and these skids allow to slide over the surface if the terrain is too rough to let the rear wheel touch the ground.

These unique vehicle using a JAP (JA Prestwich) OHV Sports engine with a capacity of 350 cc at the front. The engine generates the power that can be said is not so big, ie only 11 horsepower (if compared with today motorcycles that using the same engine capacity).
Left side view of 1937 Mercier Moto Chenille. (Picture from: Unusuallocomotion)
Those engine power then combined with the Soyer 3-speed manual transmission system and hand operated clutch to drive the front track. And this Mercier motorcycle has a top speed of about 40 mph (64.4 kph).

There is a hand operated internal expanding brake, supported by the drive wheel of the tracks to stop the vehicle. The complete drive is sprung by two leaf springs at the left and right side of the tracks. After tested by the French military on the slopes between 42 and 45% in 1936, it was deemed as highly interesting. Uniquely, these motorcycles have been made in various configurations.
Right side view of 1937 Mercier Moto Chenille. (Picture from: Unusuallocomotion)
Reportedly, these unique motorcycle prototype made as many as 3 units and never seem to be used on the battlefield due to not mass produced. This surviving example is in excellent condition and is still going strong.
The German-made tracked motorcycle:
It turned out that not long after, a German automotive manufacturer named NSU Werke also made a motorcycle that was almost similar to the Mercier Moto Chenille and was named NSU Kettenkrad in 1941, even this motorcycle also had time to become one of the vehicles used by the German forces during the 2nd World War.
The NSU Kettenkrad is designed by Ernst Kniekamp in 1939, then produced by the NSU Werke of Neckarsulm in 1941. (Picture from: TanksetPanzerOverblog)
