One-off Shelby-De Tomaso P70 Prototipo

ONE-OFF Of the many automotive creations labeled De Tomaso, this car is perhaps the most extraordinary ever made in the 1960s. Why is that? Because this car was made by those who already have great reputation in the automotive world, such as Carroll Shelby, Peter Brock, Carrozzeria Fantuzzi and Ghia were also involved into it. Well, that's unique and exotic, those are probably the words that come to mind when you see this racing car for the first time.

As quoted from Silodrome, this project was initiated in the 1960s to develop a race car later called the Shelby-De Tomaso P70 Prototipo capable of competing and dominating the then-new United States Road Racing Championship (USRRC), which itself was channeled to the Can-Am series in 1968.

The story begins, when Carroll Shelby was experiencing many uncertainties back in 1964, at the time he had to ensure that his Cobra car remained dominant over the Corvette, should kept it competitive in front of McLaren's rumored 7-liter cars, and on the other hand he was faced with the uncertainty of whether he would given the trust to control the Ford GT40 race car program.

Shelby approached Alejandro de Tomaso to build a new car powered by a new engine as well to bring the fight to McLaren. In short, they reached an agreement and then started working on the project with Shelby at the helm, engineering by Alejandro de Tomaso, and a revolutionary aerodynamic body designed by Peter Brock and constructed by Carrozzeria Fantuzzi.

The initial Peter Brock-designed open-top racing car featured with an aluminum-bodywork, and was built on a unique slightly modified De Tomaso Vallelunga chassis, as the result then shown to Shelby, this car known as the De Tomaso Sports 5000.

After seen the result, Shelby was dissatisfied, and sent it to Carrozzeria Fantuzzi to be redeveloped. The final result was a racing car with a movable rear wing and full doors, and was christened as as the De Tomaso P70 Prototipo or the De Tomaso P70.

However, like most projects that involve many parties, sometimes problems arise to make disputes between them regarding many things which then affect the outcome. This also happened in the P70 racing car project which leds to separation with only one P70 ever completed. Before the end of 1965, Shelby withdrew from the project, then focused on another project of his with the Ford Motor Company which then given birth the legendary racing car named the Ford GT40.

Meanwhile, the P70 exotic car project was continued personally by Alejandro de Tomaso, this time he collaborated with Carrozzeria Ghia. After completion, the race car was exhibited for the first time under striking red bodywork at the 1965 Turin Auto Show under the name of the Ghia De Tomaso. Furthermore, the car had appeared again at the Modena Racing Car Show in February 1966, then became the cover of Road & Track magazine a month later.

Reportedly, prior to the car's racing debut, De Tomaso had modified the design and built a second car for use in European racing under the name Sport 5000. The car was raced up a hill alongside a Ferrari 250LM, but was unable to finish the race.

The 2nd edition electric motorcycle of LiveWire is ready to launch soon

The LiveWire S2 Del Mar provides two models, namely the Launch Edition, and the Standard version. As for what would be specially launched now is the Launch Edition, it will be produced in a limited number of only 100 units, which marked them with a special serial number. Porsche Vision Gran Turismo specifically made to race virtually

Here's the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo, it is the manufacturer's first sports car concept study built specifically to drive virtually in computer games, and would be available exclusively in Gran Turismo 7 which released on March 4, 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 game consoles.

By partnering with Polyphony Digital, Porsche not only demonstrates a special visionary approach, but again demonstrates the high level of expertise among its designers. Freed from the constraints of model development for series production, they were able to realize their own idea for a Gran Turismo concept car.

The Porsche Vision Gran Turismo virtual race car features a future-oriented version of familiar Porsche design elements. The concept car exemplifies the brand's signature proportions with a very sporty height-to-width ratio, a very low bonnet and very prominent wings.

The highly pristine headlights and integrated air inlet create a visual link to the Taycan's design language which draws heavily on the car's pure electric drive. The rear is adorned with a very narrow light strip which is a further development of the headlights familiar from the 911 and Taycan models.

The clear emphasis on brand identity continues in the interior, with a curved holographic display, tailored to the driver, that appears to hover over the steering wheel. Furthermore the realistic appearance of surfaces in the interior also plays a major role. The low seating position underlines the dynamic feel of the car.

"We spent a long time considering the right material design consisting of carbon and titanium. The aim is to reduce weight while increasing performance. In addition, the sustainable aspect also plays a role in forward-looking projects. For example, we only use completely vegan materials in the concept car," said Markus Auerbach, Head of Interior Design at Porsche.

As well as the purely design-related theme, there are also new functions that contribute to a strong sports car feeling, with players experiencing haptic feedback via the controller, which mimics the feel of a steering wheel. This fast and direct feedback is reminiscent of a real racing car. Expanding its gaming activities also has strategic significance for Porsche.

So with full confidence the American manufacturer brought this strange car to race in the 24 Hours of Daytona 1998. As a result, the car has stopped early due to technical problems after 169 laps, and the engineers who designed the Mosler Raptor also reaped scorn from automotive enthusiasts. That's hilarious, because these cars not only couldn't move, but had a tendency to completely melt down. The reason being, they are real dent-resistant plastic (think hardened toys) powered by a V8 engines inside. Reportedly in a test conducted by Car & Driver magazine in May 1975, the Bricklin's performance was found to be comparable to that of the contemporary Corvette.
Unfortunately, the design of the Bricklin SV1 is less selling, less unsightly as well. In addition, the security features are considered not working optimally. All of that is summed up into one to be the reasons why this car failed in the market. Here's Koenigsegg RAW digital concept supercar with power-to-weight ratio 1:1

Digital ONES In 2019, we once presented an Article related to several automotive designs created by designers for the big Swedish automotive brand, Koenigsegg. So, regarding this matter, we feel that we have missed something, because there is one supercar design that we have missed.

The concept car referred above is the Koenigsegg RAW which originated as a thesis project titled 'RAW by Koenigsegg' of a Finnish design student of the Lahti University of Applied Sciences, named Esa Mustonen in 2020 for the RAW Design House, a Swedish design house responsible for the four-seater Koenigsegg Gemera hypercar.

Well, the Koenigsegg RAW concept car is powered by a three-cylinder engine with a capacity of 2,000 cc which is said to be capable of producing up to 700 hp, when it combined with the car's empty weight of 700 kg, you would find a power-to-weight ratio of 1:1, the same as Koenigsegg One:1 which was made by the Swedish automaker company back in 2015.

If you look at its very light weight, this is possible thanks to the use of carbon fiber tube material which is commonly used as chassis on Formula 1 racing cars, where the drivetrain, suspension and body are attached to the tube.

Then if we seen the design, Koenigsegg RAW looks not excessive, with a front design that seems firm, presents a large air intake that directs the wind towards the rear of the car. The rear looks unusual, with almost no overhang which leaves the rear tire surface barely covered by the fenders.

One of the interesting details is also the very large diffuser as the wind exit from the front of the car. Of course, Koenigsegg RAW retains some of Koenigsegg's signature design identity. This is the first Alpine's electric-powered hatchback with a more aggressive appearance
