Fierce ONES Recently, Ferrari had revealed the figure of its newest super racing car called the Ferrari 499P which is specially prepared to take part in the most prestigious endurance race in the world, the 24-Hours of Le Mans. The emergence of this prancing horse super car is a turning point for the Italian company on the 24-Hours of Le Mans vicious racing tracks. As quoted of Car and Drive, the appearance of this super racing car is different compared with another Le Mans racing cars of Ferrari, because the Ferrari 499P is very specifally designed, and the 499P code is also pointed to different chassis name from previous types such the LMDh. Furthermore, this hypercar itself is classified as an LMH (Le Mans Hypercar) is powered by a 2,992 cc twin-turbo V6 engine capable of spitting out power of up to 670 hp coupled with an all-wheel drive (AWD) system, unlike the LMDh class which only drives its two rear wheels (RWD).
The Ferrari 499P is powered by hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2,992 cc twin-turbo V6 engine mated with 2 electric motors. (Picture from: Carvaganza)
Furthermore, the Prancing Horse logoed manufacturer claims that those new engine has the same architecture as that used in the Ferrari 296GT3, but there are new touches to make it "light" when devouring the racing track for hours. Meanwhile, the Ferrari's differential technology divides the torque from the electric motor to the two front wheels. The hybrid technology still relies on the Energy Recovery System (ERS) which is able to recharge the battery during acceleration and deceleration.

For the car's agility as well as to testing the car's toughness on a fairly monotonous racing track, the company simply trusts the X-trac seven-speed sequential transmission system which is expected to quickly send power to the two rear wheels, as its engine and electric motor would be worked simultaneously to produce a good driving style and maximum traction in car's maneuvering.
Currently, the 24-Hours of Le Mans, world's endurance competition is still the main focus of the Italian automotive company. The prancing horse logoed manufacturer also believes it can make its racing debut because the car has passed trials in recent months at the Imola Circuit, Italy. This seems to make the Italian manufacturer more confident that it will return to the top of sports car racing in the endurance racing championship next year. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | FERRARI | ]

Did you know the truly first HD electric motorcyle?

ONE-OFF The appearance of the figure of an electric motorcycle made by Harley-Davidson, an American motorcycle manufacturer named Harley-Davidson Livewire, turned out to bring up facts that may not have been widely known by the public before. The fact states that the development of electric-powered motorcycle technology has actually been carried out for a long time by those Milwaukee, Wisconsin based motorcycle maker.
The truly first electric motorcycle prototype of Harley Davidson named Transitron, built by Steve Fehr teaming up with Brooks Steven back in 1978. (Picture from: CycleWorld)
So it can be said that the development of electric motorcycles which later gave rise to the figure of Livewire is not something new for the American motorcycle maker. The fact is that the existence of electric motorcycles developed by Harley-Davidson had been known around since 1978.  At the time, the American motorcycle maker has managed to develop and build an electric motorcycle prototype called Harley-Davidson Transitron.

As quoted of CycleWorld, the Harley-Davidson first electric-powered motorbike is built by Steve Fehr of Transitron Electronic Corporation, a Honolulu, Hawaii based company back in 1978. In order to convince the firm of the idea, he started to build one himself. Reportedly, in the development process also involved the famous designer Brooks Steven (known also the designer of Harley-Davidson Hydra-Glide).
The instrument panel was mounted to the handlebars, featuring an electric speedometer, a tachometer, and dual ammeters for measuring amps. (Picture from: CycleWorld)
The vintage electric motorbie is built based on 1971 Harley-Davidson XLH Sportster, by replacing its original V-Twin OHV 900cc engine to 24V 95A Baldor electric motor while its power taken of 4 batteries, then linked via a primary drive belt mated with a four-speed automatic chain final drive transmission.
Variable-speed electric motor, four-speed automatic transmission, Harley-Davidson Sportster chassis with a 59-inch wheelbase, 33mm XLH fork, Sportster “boattail” seat, and Harley-Davidson drum brakes. (Picture from: CycleWorld)
This vintage electric motorbike is capable of driving up to a maximum speed of about 50 mph (80.47 kph), with an acceleration from zero to 30 mph (48.28 kph) in 6 seconds, and (in theory) could be riden about six hours on a single charged of its four deep-cycle lead-acid batteries. For its own weight carrying about 285 kg or more weight about 75 kg compared to today's Harley-Davidson Livewire.
A series of four deep-cycle lead-acid batteries were said to provide this Harley-Davidson Transitron capable ridden up to six hours. (Picture from: CycleWorld)
As quoted of CycleWorld, that the process of developing this vintage electric motorcycle at the time cost around $70,000, (appox Rp. 989 million). After completion, the antique electric motorbike found in Brooks Steven’s transportation museum in Mequon, Wisconsin, where it stayed until his death in 1995. And in 2014 at the RM Sotheby’s auction at Amelia Island, along with the introduction of the Harley-Davidson LiveWire prototype, the Fehr's electric MK2 Sportster was sold at the price of $ 11,000 or around Rp.155 million.💢
As reminder, the Transitron might not be the electric motorcycle for everyone, at least the LiveWire is fulfilling the legacy of Steve Fehr and Brooks Steven’s work so many years ago. (Picture from: Electrec)

An eXtraordinary green-powered car of Illuminati Motor Works

Unique ONES Sometimes we feel curious about a car figure that appears in a classic style but is equipped with today's technological features. Furthermore, we think that's a kind of an extraordinary combination and deserves appreciation. Let's take a look at the car included that catagory, called Illuminaty Motor Works (IMW) Seven which first appeared in 2010 and was runner-up in the Progressive Automotive X-Prize at that time.
The IMW Seven is an increadible EV concept built by Illuminati Motor Works and was runner-up in the 2010 Progressive Automotive X-Prize. (Picture from: Illuminati Motor Works)
Even though the car developed since 2007 which has a similar appearance to the 1962 Porsche 356 Panamera didn't win the competition, it doesn't mean it isn't worth continuing to develop. Why could it be, because the car made by Illuminati Motor Works would have almost won the competition had the car clutch not burning during the competition which was held last September 2010.
The IMW Seven EV Concept has a similar appearance to the 1962 Porsche 356 Panamera with a honeycomb kevlar-carbon fibers bodywork built on tubular steel chassis. (Picture from: Illuminati Motor Works)
Besides the car capable to achieve a top speed of 130 mph (209.215 kph), travel as far as 200 miles (321.869 km), while on the test trials at Chrysler's Chelsea, MI during the last week of March 2011, also had shown off an excellent score of  207.5 MPGe. By comparison, on the same test cycle the Nissan Leaf only gets 99 MPGe and the Edison 2 Very Light Car known as the Progressive Automotive X-Prize-winning titles with 102.5 MPGe.
The IMW Seven EV Concept has fantastic achievement score of  207.5 MPGe, besides capable to achieve a top speed of 130 mph (209.215 kph), travel as far as 200 miles (321.869 km). (Picture from: Illuminati Motor Works)
As stated by Kevin Smith, the leader, and one of the founders of Illuminati Motor Works, that the Seven is not a slow poke and it's not a subcompact designed for the Lollipop Guild that keeps high-MPG cars out of the hands of motorists. The electric-powered vehicle bodywork made of honeycomb kevlar-carbon fibers built on tubular steel chassis and took over 12,000 hours to build at a cost of over $100,000.
The IMW Seven EV Concept has four seats inside the cabin featured with all standard amenities like a stereo and air conditioning, and also gullwing-styled doors . (Picture from: Illuminati Motor Works)
Still, it's the overall vehicle efficiency is the most proud of, and he thinks it will interest automakers and lawmakers. By building the Seven, Kevin Smith was also showing consumers what mileage is possible from a desirable vehicle efficiently.
The IMW Seven EV Concept is claimed has a drivetrain efficiency of 92 percent and supported by  the car profile that looks like a Porsche which is proven to be very aerodynamic. (Picture from: Illuminati Motor Works)
"We didn't have to have a million seller in order to build Seven," Smith said. "There was no sacrificing aerodynamics to meet some middle-of-the-road concept of what the general public thinks a car should be or should look like."
The IMW Seven EV Concept while competed in the 2010 Progressive Automotive X-Prize. (Picture from: Wired)
Furthermore Kevin Smith stated that the overall design of the Seven is first and foremost based on the efficient use of energy. Therefore the claimed drivetrain efficiency of 92 percent and supported by  the car profile that looks like a Porsche which is proven to be very aerodynamic. It was single-minded focus on vehicle efficiency that  Kevin Smith credits for the success of Illuminati Motor Works.
The IMW Seven EV Concept while competed in the 2010 Progressive Automotive X-Prize. (Picture from: Wired)
However it doesn't mean the Seven is spartan. As you can see, the car has four ergonomic comfortable seats inside the cabin featured with all standard amenities like a stereo and air conditioning, beside its capability to accelarate from 0 to 60 mph in around 8 seconds. There are other, more unique user-friendly features too, for example, its gullwing-styled doors not only look cool but keep the car low to the ground and given an easy cabin access to get in and out of.
So how would Seven have fared during the X-Prize competition had the clutch not burned up? According to Kevin Smith, pretty well. "Seven would've won the mainstream class hands down," he said. "Fixed, Seven now achieves nearly twice the mileage, nearly twice the top speed and has two times the acceleration rate of the winning vehicle's on-track performance." And that's enough to prove that the Seven is an environmentally friendly car with extraordinary capabilities. Then what do you think? *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | ILLUMINATI MOTOR WORKS | WIRED ]
