The Trident might be the most infamous of all TVR's controversy ever

Rare ONES Here comes another iconic car from England that existed in the 1970s, its name is TVR Trident was designed by a British designer of Italian descent named Trevor Frost or Trevor Fiore as he was known to some, and built by the Italian's coachwork company Carrozzeria Fissore for the British automotive company TVR in before-and-then Martin Lilley's era during the 1960s to early of the 1970s.

As the Tridents were nothing like a TVR had ever been; in some respect, it has some kind of visionary shape have appeared decade ahead of their time by resembling more an eighties' TVR 350i Coupe than a classic one. Besides that the TVR concept car looks thick with an Italian car style, and completed with a modern pop-up headlights as well.

As you can see the car has typical 'wedge' bodywork was steel with a one-piece aluminum bonnet, and built on top of the chassis of the Grantura Mark III. While its power came from a 4.7 liter Ford Cobra V8 engine developing 270 bhp, with the wheels were Dunlop 72 spokes.

There were a total of 4 units of the TVR Trident prototype built during 1964 to 1965. As the firstly commissioned by the British auto company were two coupé units (no. 1 and no. 2) built based on a Grantura/Griffith chassis, and were finished just in time before the 1965 Geneva Motor Show

In March 1965, the British automaker presented this new Trident model in coupé version at the Geneva Motor Show, the car exhibited was incomplete mechanically and not quite to production specification in certain other respects, a demonstration car is doing the rounds. At the back is an enormous expanse of windows set at a rakish angle. It is all very striking, if unlikely to suit the majority taste.

However the new TVRs got a warm welcome from the motoring press, and according to the Daily Mail, the Trident was the most beautiful car in the world. After the exhibition, TVR received orders worth over £150,000. One of major dealers from Woodbridge named W.J. 'Bill' Last saw this opportunity and encouraged TVR to remake the Trident prototype.

In short, TVR ordered two more Tridents from the Fissore workshops, this time a coupe (no. 3) and a convertible (no. 4). So these two cars were then exhibited at the 1965 Turin Motor Show, and later used as test cars to explore the possibility of further development of the Trident.

However, the Trident never reached serial production as TVR was soon overwhelmed by the financial crisis that caused it to go bankrupt and then take over by the Lilley family. With the company in liquidation, projects and rights to build the car were taken over by Bill Last who founded a new company in Woodbridge, Trident Cars.

And he was no stranger to similar operations having previously acquired the construction rights of Peel Viking and started construction under the name of Viking Minisport. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | SILODROME | STORY-CARS | CARROZZIERI-ITALIANI | PISTONHEADS | CARSFORGOTTENSTORIES | SILVERSTONE AUCTION | HEMMINGS | 2DRIVE.RU | ALLCARINDEX | PINTEREST ]

One-off Shelby-De Tomaso P70 Prototipo

ONE-OFF Of the many automotive creations labeled De Tomaso, this car is perhaps the most extraordinary ever made in the 1960s. Why is that? Because this car was made by those who already have great reputation in the automotive world, such as Carroll Shelby, Peter Brock, Carrozzeria Fantuzzi and Ghia were also involved into it. Well, that's unique and exotic, those are probably the words that come to mind when you see this racing car for the first time.
The Shelby-De Tomaso P70 Prototipo is built to be competed and dominated the then-new United States Road Racing Championship (USRRC), which itself was channeled to the Can-Am series in 1968. (Picture from: Silodrome)
As quoted from Silodrome, this project was initiated in the 1960s to develop a race car later called the Shelby-De Tomaso P70 Prototipo capable of competing and dominating the then-new United States Road Racing Championship (USRRC), which itself was channeled to the Can-Am series in 1968.
The Shelby-De Tomaso P70 Prototipo built by Carroll Shelby in collaboration with Alejandro de Tomaso. (Picture from: Silodrome)
The story begins, when Carroll Shelby was experiencing many uncertainties back in 1964, at the time he had to ensure that his Cobra car remained dominant over the Corvette, should kept it competitive in front of McLaren's rumored 7-liter cars, and on the other hand he was faced with the uncertainty of whether he would given the trust to control the Ford GT40 race car program.
The Shelby-De Tomaso P70 Prototipo's revolutionary aerodynamic body designed by Peter Brock, then constructed by Carrozzeria Fantuzzi. (Picture from: Silodrome)
Shelby approached Alejandro de Tomaso to build a new car powered by a new engine as well to bring the fight to McLaren. In short, they reached an agreement and then started working on the project with Shelby at the helm, engineering by Alejandro de Tomaso, and a revolutionary aerodynamic body designed by Peter Brock and constructed by Carrozzeria Fantuzzi.

The initial Peter Brock-designed open-top racing car featured with an aluminum-bodywork, and was built on a unique slightly modified De Tomaso Vallelunga chassis, as the result then shown to Shelby, this car known as the De Tomaso Sports 5000.

After seen the result, Shelby was dissatisfied, and sent it to Carrozzeria Fantuzzi to be redeveloped. The final result was a racing car with a movable rear wing and full doors, and was christened as as the De Tomaso P70 Prototipo or the De Tomaso P70.

However, like most projects that involve many parties, sometimes problems arise to make disputes between them regarding many things which then affect the outcome. This also happened in the P70 racing car project which leds to separation with only one P70 ever completed. Before the end of 1965, Shelby withdrew from the project, then focused on another project of his with the Ford Motor Company which then given birth the legendary racing car named the Ford GT40.

Meanwhile, the P70 exotic car project was continued personally by Alejandro de Tomaso, this time he collaborated with Carrozzeria Ghia. After completion, the race car was exhibited for the first time under striking red bodywork at the 1965 Turin Auto Show under the name of the Ghia De Tomaso. Furthermore, the car had appeared again at the Modena Racing Car Show in February 1966, then became the cover of Road & Track magazine a month later.

Reportedly, prior to the car's racing debut, De Tomaso had modified the design and built a second car for use in European racing under the name Sport 5000. The car was raced up a hill alongside a Ferrari 250LM, but was unable to finish the race.
After entering the current modern era, it turns out that the figure of the P70 has again been used as an inspiration by the Italian manufacturer for its newest stunning supercar, the De Tomaso P72 and its sibling De Tomaso P900. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | DE TOMASO | SILODROME | BONHAM | ]

Porsche Vision Gran Turismo specifically made to race virtually

Virtual BEAST The more you come here, the thinner the boundary between real and virtual feels, so that virtual world exploration has also become one of the automotive industry's players business strategies. This can be seen when Porsche AG. and Polyphony Digital Inc., a subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment have presented a spectacular virtual racing car concept.
The Porsche Vision Gran Turismo can finally be played, but the real-life model is something to behold. (Picture from: Carscoops)
As we all know the ‘Gran Turismo’ series of virtual racing games has featured Porsche sports cars since 2017, most recently the Taycan Turbo S. For the launch of the seventh edition of the game, also for the first time, Porsche developed a vehicle purely for the virtual world.
Porsche are fond of drumming up a headline through the use of a little wishful thinking and a model they call a Vision Gran Turismo concept car. (Picture from: OtoBlitz)
Here's the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo, it is the manufacturer's first sports car concept study built specifically to drive virtually in computer games, and would be available exclusively in Gran Turismo 7 which released on March 4, 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 game consoles.

By partnering with Polyphony Digital, Porsche not only demonstrates a special visionary approach, but again demonstrates the high level of expertise among its designers. Freed from the constraints of model development for series production, they were able to realize their own idea for a Gran Turismo concept car.

"A vehicle designed purely for cyberspace opens up exciting possibilities for us that are otherwise very much set in the regular design process for series production cars. Projects like the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo are invaluable to us in the creative process. Further developing our clearly defined Porsche Design DNA and trading with designers from other industries is an important part of our job," said Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche.

The Porsche Vision Gran Turismo virtual race car features a future-oriented version of familiar Porsche design elements. The concept car exemplifies the brand's signature proportions with a very sporty height-to-width ratio, a very low bonnet and very prominent wings.

The highly pristine headlights and integrated air inlet create a visual link to the Taycan's design language which draws heavily on the car's pure electric drive. The rear is adorned with a very narrow light strip which is a further development of the headlights familiar from the 911 and Taycan models.

The clear emphasis on brand identity continues in the interior, with a curved holographic display, tailored to the driver, that appears to hover over the steering wheel. Furthermore the realistic appearance of surfaces in the interior also plays a major role. The low seating position underlines the dynamic feel of the car.

"We spent a long time considering the right material design consisting of carbon and titanium. The aim is to reduce weight while increasing performance. In addition, the sustainable aspect also plays a role in forward-looking projects. For example, we only use completely vegan materials in the concept car," said Markus Auerbach, Head of Interior Design at Porsche.

"Porsche's appeal comes from its pristine design, and when it comes to engineering expertise, we and Porsche follow the same perfectionist philosophy. We share the same passion for racing and are looking forward to future cars," said Kazunori Yamauchi, President, Polyphony Digital.

As well as the purely design-related theme, there are also new functions that contribute to a strong sports car feeling, with players experiencing haptic feedback via the controller, which mimics the feel of a steering wheel. This fast and direct feedback is reminiscent of a real racing car. Expanding its gaming activities also has strategic significance for Porsche.

"We were able to engage a young and digital target group in the cradle of their automotive dreams: the world of games. The partnership with Polyphony Digital and 'Gran Turismo' is a perfect fit for Porsche, because motorsport (whether real or virtual) is part of our DNA," said Robert Ader, Vice President of Marketing at Porsche AG.
Porsche creates an authentic and emotional experience. In this context, video games and virtual worlds offer new opportunities to make sports cars interactive, and to make driving experiences accessible. This integration of the first Porsche sports car developed purely for virtual space is an important milestone in the strategic partnership between Porsche AG. and Polyphony Digital Inc.
For this reason, Porsche has been working with various companies from the gaming industry for several years and these activities are now an integral part of the marketing mix. The ultimate goal is to create a brand experience that lasts. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | PORSCHE | GRAN-TURISMO | CARSCOOPS | ]

Top-3 Less-Good Designed Sports Cars of All Time

TOP THREE At first, we wanted to tell you that not all sports cars circulating in the world have designs that are fierce and fierce. Some automotive manufacturers even design sports cars that they create with a strange appearance and not like a sport car in general.
Most manufacturers tend to focus on engine performance, then ignore aesthetic issues. As a result, the sports car they produced actually reaped a lot of scorn from automotive lovers. (Picture from: TheCoolist)
Usually, those manufacturers tend to focus on engine performance, then ignore aesthetic issues. As a result, these sports cars they produced actually reaped a lot of scorn from automotive enthusiasts because of its unusual shape. If you're curious, what are the worst-looking sports cars of all time? Well, here are 3 bad-looking sports cars of all time as follow;

3. DeLorean DMC-12
This DeLorean DMC-12 which had become an icon of the Back to The Future trilogy in the mid-1980s, seems to be included in the line of poorly designed sports cars. How could it not be, the design is considered very boring, and weird with a box-shaped headlamp model that is actually similar to old school cars and doesn't fit the idea of depicting a futuristic car. What? Doesn't that fit the title of the movie?
The legendary DeLorean DMC-12 taken role as an advance time travel machine in the Back to The Future trilogy in the 1980s. (Picture from: GridOto)
Not only that, the DeLorean Motors Company as the manufacturer of the car does not paint and maintains the distinctive gray color of stainless steel which is the raw material for car bodies. However, even though it is labeled as a poorly designed car, in fact the DeLorean DMC-12 has succeeded in becoming a legend in the Hollywood movies history and is much sought after by collectors.
DeLorean Motor Company has revealed the first images of the Alpha 5 electric vehicle at the 2022 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance event. (Picture from: Gaspol.id)
Even today, the automaker company in collaboration with ItalDesign, an Italian well-known automotive design house has been launched its modern, electric-powered version, named the DeLorean Alpha 5.

2. Mosler Raptor
The list of badly designed sports cars is then filled by the Mosler Raptor, which was first introduced to the public by the Riviera Beach, Florida-based supercar manufacturer Mosler Automotive back in 1997. The automaker even claims that the Raptor has more appealing body due to it's inspired by a sexy woman. Is that right?
The Mosler Raptor, which was first launched in 1997, is far from sexy when we've seen from its shape. (Picture from: Carakoom)
Well, in fact, if you look at the design, which is so stiff and strange, especially on the windshield design in the form of two halves installed at an acute angle, it's hard to say that it's sexy, especially when compared to sexy women (in our opinion, this car looks more like a submarine than a car). However this weird looking car armed with a then slightly modified fresh LS1 engine with an aluminum block, and made it capable to burst out 446 hp of power and 582 Nm of torque.
The Mosler Raptor has stiff and strange designs, especially on the windshield design in the form of two halves installed at an acute angle. (Picture from: Carakoom)
So with full confidence the American manufacturer brought this strange car to race in the 24 Hours of Daytona 1998. As a result, the car has stopped early due to technical problems after 169 laps, and the engineers who designed the Mosler Raptor also reaped scorn from automotive enthusiasts. According to official sources say that only two of these cars were produced in addition to three more 'civillized' versions.

1. Bricklin SV1
On the top list of badly designed sports cars is
the Bricklin SV1. As you can see in the cover image above, the standard version of the car produced from 1974 to early 1976 by General Vehicles, an automotive company founded by Malcolm Bricklin. The name SV-1 stood for Safety Vehicle - One, and as both a business and a sports car it was a failure. This isn't because Malcolm Bricklin was staunchly anti-smoking so that he didn't want included a lighter or an ashtray in this car.
The Mosler Raptor has stiff and strange designs, especially on the windshield design in the form of two halves installed at an acute angle. (Picture from: Pinterest)
That's hilarious, because these cars not only couldn't move, but had a tendency to completely melt down. The reason being, they are real dent-resistant plastic (think hardened toys) powered by a V8 engines inside. Reportedly in a test conducted by Car & Driver magazine in May 1975, the Bricklin's performance was found to be comparable to that of the contemporary Corvette.
Unfortunately, the design of the Bricklin SV1 is less selling, less unsightly as well. In addition, the security features are considered not working optimally. All of that is summed up into one to be the reasons why this car failed in the market. Therefore, the owner of this car is advised to always drive at high speed (if could) so as not to be ridiculed by other people who happen to see it when they meet on the streets.😐 *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | THECOOLIST | CARAKOOM ]
