Already extinct, the Zebra sub-species back to life

In 1883, after its population was reduced drastically due to act of the hunter, the world's last quagga died in the Amsterdam zoo. Quagga is a sub-species of zebra from South Africa, the only difference is they do not have dappled in the leg.

More than 100 years after the quagga extinct, scientists claimed that has been brought back the sub-species back to life, through selective breeding that diligently done for 30 years.

In the project called The Quagga Project, that begun 30 years ago, when Reinhold Rau, an inventor from the University of Cape Town, analyzing a collection of DNA samples from the quagga's skin. When the results arrived, he was surprised and delighted to discover the once-extinct creature is genetically the same as the zebra. In other words, quagga and zebra not a different species.

This knowledge is important, as it proves, the real difference between a zebra and quagga is located on fur patterns. With this information, Rau was planning to 'awaken' the species by selective breeding zebra to bring the quagga characteristics.

The main difference between the two species is the quagga graded stripes of black and white to brown or white plain towards the hind legs. Quagga in the 19th century sort of looks like the zebra after sat in the mud.

After breeding for 30 years, the team claims that the quagga has returned. Since the zebra and quagga have same DNA, scientists say, this latest generation was the extinct animals back to life.

"By all intents and purposes, the quagga back in. The project was a huge success," said one researcher, Eric Harley, as quoted ScienceAlert.

Although this sounds awesome project, many are critical of it and call it 'violates the natural law' and 'efforts to find public attention'. The team also responded that they did not use genetic modification to revive the quagga, and the project was responsible for the act of a hunter, and bring back the South African native animals they killed brutally.

However, the team agreed to call this new animal as 'Rau-quagga,' not quagga, to distinguish it. It is hoped this will silence the protesters.

One of the amazing aspects of this project, is that although rau-quagga were the breeding results animals, they are fertile. This is because, rau-quagga not the result of interbreeding. They are sub-species retain his genes, so that they can successfully breed.

The team hopes to continue the project to eventually create rau-quagga herd so that they could live freely in South Africa should their ancestors in the 19th century. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | THE QUAGGA PROJECT | SCIENCEALERT]

The difference between shy people and introvert

People who have an introverted personality is often misunderstood as a shy, but it is not so. For example, if we see someone who is more preoccupied with his/her book, we tend to think nerds are a shy person. Whereas a bookworm, usually is an introvert?
Illustration of an introvert. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1WxOVF)
And what a difference an introvert with a shy person? Check out the explanation below!

1. The shy people are not necessarily introverts
Extroverts people are also many who could not overcome stage fright and a sense of nervous when dealing with others. Not that when a person becomes a shy, he/she is an introvert and vice versa.

2. The shyness is different from the introverted
Shyness is fear of negative judgment from others. While the introvert is a person's choice to remain calm. An introvert also prefer to choose a quiet place.

3. For the shy people, social life looks terrible
Introvert does not mean antisocial. They do not mind to join with others or within a community. In contrast to the shy people, for them to live in a social world is something painful.

Often we make the label, so that over time the introvert can be a shy person, and vice versa. This is to be realized by our society in order not to make people wrong recognize themself.

An introvert would often feel frustrated when others treat them as though they were as shy. Introverts do not want to be misunderstood. Although indeed, the nature of these people prefer to spend their days with passive.

For us, they need a personalized approach that is good and right in order not to make them not feel alienated that will take them toward more negative. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SORUCES | NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC]

Another unique thing found on the Black Pearl is a typical bells and steam horn embedded in the front side of the motorcycle. To provide comfort to the rider, this bike has two shock absorbers that connects the steering to the wheel through a trailing link structure, with a drum brake that is assigned with the task of stopping the vehicle.
Because it is driven by steam, the Black Pearl is only able to reach a maximum speed of 8 kph (5 mph). Although it can not be used for daily riding, but this bike to take up a lot of attention, because it is considered as one of the outstanding work. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | RIDINGMODE]

This treasure was once a bird's nest in a garden

Who would have thought a chunk of rusted iron found in a garden in France has now turned into a treasure of great value. Yes, rusty iron frame-shaped cars were piled into a bird's nest, and weeds that turned out to be a rare classic supercar, the Jaguar E-type.

As quoted of Mirror on Thursday, February 11, 2016, after making restoration process for approximately 3,000 hours, the British-made rare car ready to be exhibited at the London Classic Car Show will be held at the ExCel exhibition center, in London, February 18 to 21, 2016.

"And this makes the Jaguar E-Type only one which manufactured the same as in the era of 1961," said Goldthorp. He also said, when the car was found apparently belongs to someone who bought it in 1976.

If the restoration car of 1961 Jaguar E-Type on sale, this classic car is estimated to be worth up to £300,000, or about Rp.5.9 billion. However, if saw the rarity of the car, the price can be much more expensive. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | MIRROR]

The first phase of the Moroccans giant solar power plants starts active

The activation of the first stage of the Moroccans giant solar power plants done this week. The power plant is known as Noor I is a 160 megawatt power plant and is the first of three phases (named Noor II and Noor III, of course) of a concentrated solar power house is located in the province of Ouarzazate.

The ability to generate its own energy will be a boon for the North African country. Unlike many of its neighbors, Morocco does not have the reserves of fossil fuels and thus about 97 percent of the energy imported from other countries. When completed later, the concentrated solar power plant will have a capacity of over 500 megawatts of energy, and reported by The Guardian, Noor I, II, and III will provide electricity for 1.1 million people.

The Concentrated Solar Power plants (CSP) works differently from solar cells or photovoltaic arrays. CSP uses a lot of mirrors to capture the sun's heat energy, and use it to turn water into steam to turn turbines. Noor I have about two square miles thermo solar parabolic mirrors, can save about three hours worth of energy in molten salt.

King of Morocco, Mohammed VI officially announced the next phase of the construction of two power plants are projected to be completed before 2020. At that time, Morocco has a plan to get more than half the energy from renewable sources. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | THE GUARDIAN]
