Spectre R45: The Untold Story of a Mid-Engine Marvel

Forgotten ONES - In our ongoing journey through the world of exceptional vehicles, we shift our focus to those that dwell in the shadows, escaping the notice of the broader automotive audience. Recently, our exploration led us to the R42, a vehicle inspired by the iconic Ford GT40. Originating in the early 1990s, this masterpiece is the brainchild of Ray Christopher from GT Development—an obscure yet fascinating car company based in England.
The Spectre R45 (in pictured, a vibrant yellow prototype) represents a potent successor to the R42, designed to captivate a broader audience with enhanced power and allure. (Picture from: RareComponentCars)
However, the road for GT Development was fraught with challenges, and the economic recession of the 1990s cast its shadow, leading the company to bankruptcy. In 1995, Anders Hildebrand, a former salesman of GT Development, seized the opportunity and acquired all its assets. This marked the birth of Spectre Motors Inc. based in Dorcet, with Hildebrand at the helm, steering the fate of the R42.
The Spectre R45 (in pictured, an enigmatic red hue prototype) showcased a shift towards innovation, featuring a carbon fiber body that exuded both strength and agility. (Picture from: RareComponentCars)
During its brief four-year stint, a mere 23 units of the R42 found their way to fortunate owners. Undeterred by the modest success, Hildebrand envisioned a more powerful successor to captivate a wider audience, thus paving the way for the creation of the Spectre R45. While the R42 was still in production, the R45 was quietly taking shape, promising a thrilling evolution.
The Spectre R45 emerged as a mid-engine, rear-drive marvel, propelled by a robust 4.6-liter Mustang Cobra V8, boasting an impressive 350 horsepower. (Picture from: RareComponentCars)

Amid the anticipation surrounding the R45, fate had different plans for Spectre Motors Inc. The company faced financial turmoil and, unfortunately, closed its doors before the much-anticipated debut of the production version at the 1998 London Motor Show.

In the wake of Spectre's demise, two prototypes of the R45 stood as silent witnesses to what could have been. One, painted in an enigmatic red hue, while the other flaunted a vibrant yellow. The latter made its public appearance at the 1997 London Motor Show, raising expectations for a grand unveiling in 1998. However, financial constraints forced Spectre Motors Inc. to bow out before realizing this vision.

The remnants of Spectre Motors now reside in the form of these two prototype R45s. The yellow exemplar, once showcased at an auto show, eventually found its way to The Hairpin Company in Wiltshire. In 2016, it graced the listings with an unspecified price, only to vanish from the virtual marketplace. We apologize for any inconvenience. In the absence of an R45 video, here's a video featuring the predecessor of the Spectre R42 instead.
Should you encounter a yellow R45 for sale in the future, chances are it is the very same vehicle with a tale to tell from the annals of automotive history. The legacy of the R45 lives on, a testament to the ephemeral nature of automotive dreams. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | THETRUTHABOUTCARS | RARECOMPONENTCARS ]

The Pinnacle Unleashed: Unveiling the First Brazilian Supercar, DoniRosset

Unfinished AUTO JEWEL - In the vibrant automotive landscape of Brazil, a rich history of independent automakers unfolded, reaching its zenith in the 1970s and 80s when the nation's automotive markets were shielded from foreign competition. This protectionist approach, akin to China's current stance, compelled manufacturers to produce locally. Global giants like Ford, General Motors, and Volkswagen seized the opportunity, with Volkswagen establishing a particularly dominant presence.
The inaugural Brazilian supercar, the Amoritz GT DoniRosset (aka Amoritz GT DR7) prototype, was showcased to numerous interested parties in 2012. (Picture from: WorldCarFans)
This era witnessed the emergence of iconic brands like Miura, Adamo, Bianco, Ventura, Lafer, and the renowned Puma. During the period of closed borders to foreign competition, Brazil's automotive industry thrived, fostering a diverse range of local products across various segments—a source of immense pride for the Brazilian people.

Amidst this dynamic backdrop, one standout player in recent years has captured attention—Amaritz GT DoniRosset. Boasting over 1,000 horsepower, a million-dollar price tag, three seats reminiscent of McLaren, and a luxurious blend of carbon fiber, rare metals, and jewels, DoniRosset exudes superlative excellence.

The brainchild of entrepreneur William Denis RossetDoniRosset materialized as an extravagant gift for his father, Donino Rosset, affectionately known as Doni. Collaborating with Brazilian designer Fernando Morita of Studio Amoritz GT, development commenced in 2008 based on Morita's sketch for the Amoritz GT DR7. The car, rebranded as DoniRosset, is set for a limited production run of 50 units, each commanding a price tag exceeding $1 million.

While the DoniRosset project initially garnered interest and even presented a full-scale model in 2012, its progress faced hurdles. The venture, unfortunately, succumbed to the economic crisis that gripped the region around 2014. News about the project dwindled, and the last trace of the unfinished supercar prototype, as of early 2020, resided in the workshop of Andre Filipe Caligari in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Caligari, a seasoned craftsman known for custom cars and one-off specials, now extends an intriguing opportunity. Those with the expertise and interest have the chance to complete the DoniRosset, as Caligari shifts his focus to his own automotive endeavors. In this unfolding chapter, the fate of DoniRosset lies in the hands of those eager to see this ambitious vision reach its full potential. *** [EKA [19062013] | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | AMORITZ GT | CARBODYDESIGN | BLESSTHISSTUFF | BEHANCE | GTSPIRIT | GTPLANET | WORLDCARFANS ]
