The world's first turbo-diesel motorcycles

Most people do not dream of their bike running on a diesel heart especially after the abysmal failure of the Royal Enfield Taurus bike which was launched in India a few years back. Diesel engines are thought of as high maintenance, oil dripping and noisy beasts of engines. But, in the world of engines today, diesel engines have proved to be more cleaner, powerful and fuel efficient than their petrol counterparts.

Today as we know, Germany’s Neander Motors has been producing a cruiser bike running on a 1,340 cc turbocharged parallel-twin diesel engine which designed to dramatically lower vibration. The engine has given hope to the bike world and is claiming as the world’s first turbo-diesel production motorcycle. The very first production unit had been displayed at the international motorcycle show "Mondial du Deux-Roue" in Paris 2007.

The engine displaces 1,340 cc with an output of 112 hp at 4,200 rpm and 214 N.m of torque at 2,600 rpm. Acceleration is 0-60 in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of approximately 220 kph or 140 mph. The engine is an air and oil cooled vertical twin cylinder with 4 valves per cylinder, 2 overhead cams and common rail injection. It is turbocharged with an intercooler. The transmission is a 6 speed with belt final drive.

The most unique feature of the engine are the twin counter rotating crankshafts with 2 connecting rods per piston, which, according to Neander, virtually eliminates the vibration you would expect, not only because it's a diesel but also from the vertical twin configuration. The pistons both move up and down in unison. Technically, it's extremely interesting and seems like it should do the job. We'll have to wait for an independent road test to verify how well it actually works.

The motorcycle itself has a 75 inch wheelbase and is 98 inches in overall length. Rake is a leisurely 56 degrees. Seat height is only 26 inches making it easy to comfortably plant your feet and weight is 650 pounds. Range with 3.7 gallons of diesel fuel is approximately 186 miles which yields about 50 mpg (4.5 l/100 km), perhaps a bit less than you would expect until you consider the power and weight of the motorcycle and considering the engine is of their own design.

The other unique design feature are the twin 41 mm front fork tubes, that is, 2 tubes on each side. I'm not sure whether they all perform the same function or if suspension duties are somehow divided between the pairs but, in any case, it gives the Neander a very unique look.
Will this be the first of many turbo diesel motorcycles to begin production with other companies joining in or one of only a few? Time will tell us

This China's electric sedan inspired by the 'Knight Rider' movie

Shanghai-based car manufacturers, Youxia make the electric cars that would be a competitor to Tesla. A sedan, named Youxia X is powered by the electric motors that able to spewed the power up to 348 hp and torque of 440 nm. Cars can roam up to 460 kilometers on a single charge (depending on battery capacity).

So that was quoted from Carnewschina on Tuesday, July 28, 2015. The plan of the car began to enter the production line in 2016 and sold in 2017. The car's front view is a glimpse of the same with Tesla, but put forward a futuristic impression. Its front grille is a screen that can display multiple images. Youxia itself is a Chinese name for a superhero in in the 'Knight Rider' television series.

The idea to make Yuoxia electric cars came from Huang Xiuyuan who was also a fan of 'Knight Rider'. While the 'X' is inspired from a dream that he experienced in 2014. Huang then formed a team of 50 experts and designers to create a futuristic electric car. This car is claimed to accelerate from 0-100 kilometers per hour in 5.6 seconds.

Yuoxia X will be priced at 200 thousand to 300 thousand yuan (Rp.434,8 million to Rp. 652.3 million). This car will compete with the Tesla Model S. However Youxia X price tag of going under the Tesla Model S. One reason, this eco-friendly cars receive an incentive of 90 thousand yuan from the Chinese government. And Yuoxia stating that the price could increase its competitiveness with Tesla. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | CARNEWSCHINA | ETEKNIX]

The fastest electric car in the world

GreeanTeam is a group of students of Stuttgart University, Germany that has managed to break the Guinness World Record by creating the fastest electric-powered cars in the world.
The GreenTeam car was built by a team of 40 students at Stuttgart University in Germany. Some of the engineers who have been involved in the project are pictured above on the day of the record attempt. (Picture from: http://dailym.ai/1MyKtAZ)
As quoted from Daily Mail, the car is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 1.779 seconds or 0.006 seconds faster than the previous record.
The car was driven by student Priska Schmid (pictured) at the Jade Weser Airport Airport in northern Germany. (Picture from: http://dailym.ai/1MyKtAZ)
Car with a design resembling the F-1 car was capable of producing 100 kW with four-wheel drive system and using battery-powered 6.62 kWh. With the weight of the vehicle about 160 kilograms, the ratio between power and weight of this car is 1.6 kg/kW.
The team have used the latest battery technology and composite materials to reduce the weight of their car, allowing them to shave 0.006 seconds off the previous world record. (Picture from: http://dailym.ai/1MyKtAZ)
And their vehicle boats a sophisticated suspension, all wheel drive, electric and mechanic braking and a full body aerodynamics package.
To achieve time of 1.779 seconds, the GreenTeam made several experiments in the Jade Weser Airport. Finally, when driving by Priska Schmid can achieved the fastest time in the name of Greenteam of Stuttgart University. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | GREENTEAM UNI STUTTGART | DAILY MAIL]
