Even the steering wheel is derived from the McLaren MP4-23 race car, driven by none other than Lewis Hamilton, the 2008 F1 World Champion. Old Anglia Transformed Into a Wild Looking Racing Beast

Wild Beast - You might recall the magical flying car from the Harry Potter moviesthe iconic Ford Anglia 105E. But while the movie version soared through the skies, there’s another version of this car that transformed into something much more down to earth, yet equally astonishing. This time, it’s not about magic but engineering brilliance. Leif Frykas, an engineer from Gothenburg, Sweden, took an old Ford Anglia 105E and gave it a dramatic makeover, turning it into a fearsome, track-ready touring car.

The story of this unique car began in the 1960s when Leif's parents purchased the Ford Anglia 105E. Initially, it was just a regular family vehicle, but by 1973, Leif decided to push the limits and take it to the racetrack. As the years passed, his ambition grew, and so did the car’s modifications.

One of the earliest changes involved swapping the original engine for a Volvo B20, which was later upgraded to the more powerful B21 engine with a 2,000 cc capacity. This marked the beginning of the Anglia's transformation into a full-blown race car, as Leif added TOCA Touring Car specifications, starting with the suspension system.
Leif didn’t stop there. He replaced the original steering system with a ZF Alfa Romeo steering rack, connected to the electric power steering from a Porsche 997 Carrera Coupe. These sophisticated upgrades drastically improved the car’s handling, making it feel like a completely different beast on the track. However, the power that came with these changes wasn’t always easy to control. In one instance, the engine’s bolts flew off, and the piston hit the ground after revving up to 8,000 rpm—an indication of just how wild this car had become.

As the project continued, Leif brought his son Kjell into the fold. Kjell’s involvement pushed the boundaries even further. He added custom components, including a homemade flat swing arm and even used helicopter bearings. These unconventional choices highlight the ingenuity and fearless creativity that defined the car’s evolution.

The exterior of the Anglia also underwent a radical transformation. A large rear wing was added, and the spoiler was made from TeXtreme material, which had been used by eight out of 11 Formula-1 racing teams during the 2013 season.

This addition not only enhanced the car's aerodynamics but also gave it a fierce, aggressive look that matched its high-performance upgrades. At first glance, this revamped Anglia might still resemble the humble car from decades ago, but it has a racing spirit that’s anything but ordinary. *** [EKA [05112014] | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | TELEGRAPH.CO.UK | SPEEDHUNTER | RETRO-RIDES ]
