The Mustang Mach 3 Concept as one of the 1990s American sportscar icons

Stepping Stone 55 There are many models which later bore the legendary status made by the Ford Motor Company, which has been known as one of American automotive giants and one of them is the Ford Mustang including its concept versions. A while ago we had discussed the uniqueness Mustang Mach 1 & 2 Concepts which were made by the Dearborn-based car manufacturer back in the 1960s.

Then actually in the 1990s, there's another car named Ford Mustang Mach 3 Concept which was built based on the Mustang fourth Generation of the 1992 and was made its debut at the 1993 New York Auto Show.
The Ford Mustang Mach 3 Concept was first shown at the 1993 New York Auto Show was thought to to give an idea of what the Mustang's near future in the '90s. (Picture from: Flickr)
The Mustang Mach 3 Concept is an example of Ford Motor Company's attempt to take the sportscar into a new direction away of its typical boxy Fox Body. Indeed stylistically, through its heavily rounded roadster body, the Mach 3 was about as far from the Fox Body as you could get.

While it looks almost suggested a mid-engined sports car, the Mustang Mach 3 Concept actually sat on a traditional front-engine Mustang platform featured with a two-seat cabin, low-profile windshield and large side scoops giving it a fresh and exotic vibe.

The Mach 3 Concept also got the power to back up its looks, using the double overhead cam 4.6 liter V8 from the Lincoln MkVIII topped with an Eaton supercharger coupled with the T56 six-speed manual transmission to chanel the output was said to be 450 hp. These kind of similar powerplant would eventually find its way into a production Mustang, but not until a decade later with the debut of the 2003 Cobra with its "Terminator" V8 engine.

Being built in 1993, development of the next generation SN95 Mustang was already well underway by the time the Mach 3 debuted, and it seemed that the two-seat roadster was a preview of a possible additional version of the Mustang rather than a complete transformation of the car.
The uniqueness of the Ford Mustang Mach 3 Concept can be seen from the generous rear overhang which is said to be inspired by the Thunderbird  coupled with unique 3 LED horizontal stripes taillights(Picture from: MS-99)
Two hand-built examples of the Mach 3 Concept were commissioned for the auto show and media circuit, but it doesn't appear the idea ever got very close to production. On the other hand, plenty of its styling elements did in fact make their way on to the production SN95 Mustang including the headlight shape, side scoops and the basic dashboard layout.
Despite never getting into the company production lines, the Mustang Mach 3 nonetheless inserted itself into the mid '90s American sportscar icons. As you can see this Mustang concept car in video games, also has been recreated in both diecast and plastic model form.

How about today? For nowdays we could easily found many modern Mustang versions running on the highways including the latest electric-driven one due to since 2019 the Dearborn-based car company had launched an electrified version of Mach SUV model named Mustang Mach-E. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | DRIVINGLINE | SUPERCARS.NET ]

Another Portofino made by Chrysler in late '80s

Which comes first It turns out that not only Ferrari made the car by the name of Portofino, but the American automotive manufacturer Chrysler has also used that name, when they took over another Italian auto manufacturer Lamborghini in 1987. It's so strange, why the Maranello-based automaker name one its current model the same name as a Chrysler (Lamborghini) concept car? Is this a coincidence or what?
1987 Chrysler Portofino concept car applied Lambo’s scissor-hinged doors to a big sedan that marked the end of the K-car era and launched Chrysler’s cab-forward design which ignited a resurgence in American automotive design. (PIcture from: Motor1)
Well, in 1987 Chrysler started to work on its “Concept to reality” philosophy by introducing a sports sedan concept under the same name called of Chrysler Portofino at the Frankfurt Motor Show in same year.

This Portofino concept car was built on the chassis of the Lamborghini Jalpa. At the end of the day it was known as a prototype of the Sant'Agata Bolognese's car with the interior of a Chrysler Pentastar to symbolize the Chrysler takeover of Lamborghini.

In terms of design, the Portofino was an evolution of the Chrysler Navajo that had only been built as a clay model. The design was updated to show even more the connection between both brands. The car was built by Coggiola Carrozzeria, in Turin, Italy, and had to be lengthened by 66 cm to create a wide enough cabin to allow the space for four seats.

Even if the concept is badge “Chrysler”, the design reminds more of a Lamborghini model such as a four-door, four-seated car and applies scissor doors type that opened vertically in front and rear. The Portofino features with no B-pillars which are commonly used to strengthen the passenger area in case of side impacts. Besides that, it also facilitates the access to the car's cabin.

The interior of the Portofino is made in a beautiful three shades of textured blue leather with yellow piping and accents on the steering wheel and shift knob. A central console divided the passenger compartment adding stiffness to the structure and providing a comfortable wrap-around feeling in the rear seats.

For the drivetrain, the American automaker chosen a 3.5-liter V8 engine block that delivered 255 horse power and 310 Nm of torque. It was mated with a five-speed manual gearbox, which channeled all the power to the asphalt through a rear-wheel drive system. This configuration allowed it to reach a maximum speed of 240 kph.

Although this concept car never entered into production, but Chrysler used its design cues such as body, color up to the rear wing in the development of their next production car. It is different to scissor doors type was never used at all by those American automotive manufacturer.
Chrysler only produced one Portofino what was heavily damaged in 1991, when transporter carrying the concept rolled over. Chrysler understood the importance of this concept for the evolution of the company’s design and they decided to restore the concept.

The unique Portofino is now in hands of Chrysler and starting 1999 it is on permanent display at the Daimler/Chrysler World Headquarters and Tech Center in Auburn Hills, Michigan. *** [EKA [26122018] | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | AUTOBILD | CARROZZIERI ITALIANI | TOP SPEED | MOTOR1]

Finally the AMB-001 delivered to its respective owner after two years on hold

Fast MotorBike As we all know, Aston Martin, one of the British premium car manufacturers made a breakthrough by creating the first stunning fast motorcycle called the AMB-001 back in 2019.

The racing track purposed superbike was the collaboration result with the motorcycle maker, Brought Superior and produced in a limited number of 100 units only. It is known that the fast motorcycle was first launched as a concept at the Milan Motorcycle Show (EICMA) 2019.
Finally Aston Martin delivered 30 units of the obly superbike they ever made, the Aston Martin x Brough Superior AMB-001 to their special customers who have been willing to wait for two years (in pictured posed along with the Aston Martin DBX SUV). (Picture from: OtomotifSindoNews)
As quoted of MotorcycleNews, finally Aston Martin delivered as many as 30 units of the only superbike they ever made to their special customers who have been willing to wait for two years. And the delivery was made after both of them felt enough to test those fast motorbike.

"We are very pleased that we have succeeded in achieving our desired performance target with a maximum power of 183 horsepower. The AMB-001 is a racing bike that can be drive by the senses of its rider and the bike's performance," said the Brough Superior President, Thierry Henriette.
Strictly limited to just 100 examples, the track only AMB-001 represents the union of iconic Aston Martin design and stat-of-the-art Brough Superior engineering to create a piece of automotive art for the motorbike connoisseur. (Picture from: SIAMagazine)
Actually Aston Martin and Brough Superior have trying to accelerate the production of the super motorbike. However, when the global Covid-19 pandemic occurred, they were forced to postpone the production process of the fast motorcycle. So that the vacant time was then used by the motorcycle maker to test the AMB-001 to make it more perfect when sent to consumers (as you could be seen on the video below while the bike on on test at the France's Pau-Arnos track).
Many of the Aston Martin x Brough Superior AMB-001 units should be postponed its production and delivering process almost two years due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. (Picture from: LapTrinhX)
The Aston Martin x Brough Superior AMB-001 is powered by a forced induction 997 cc V-twin engine with a supercharger and a turbocharger capable of spitting out power of up to 180 hp, and is combined with a 6-speed transmission. Interestingly the weight of the motorbike only reaches 180 kilograms. So in terms of power distribution, the AMB-001 really has fantastic capabilities. The reason is that every 1 horsepower in the motorbike can push every 1 kilogram of the motorbike's weight.

As quoted of Robb Report, Aston Martin and Brough Superior plan to make 100 units of the superbike. Of course, because currently 30 units have been sent, there are still 70 units left that can be bought by other motorbike connoisseurs.
While the motorcycle was sold at a price of US $108,000 (approx Rp. 1.54 billion). With that price, the owner of the AMB-001 will get and can ride a unique design racing track purposed motorbike with fierce performance.

The Marsien, your all-new ultimate adventure rides

Dirt&Dust When we talk about cars made by Porsche that have the ability to cross an off-road terrain, of course our memories are directly connected to the Porsche Cayenne and also the Macan. Both are made by this German manufacturer and also equipped with off-road capabilities with the suitable height of the car ground clearance to cross on off-road terrain.
The Marsien is a futuristic advanture rally car built by Marc Philipp Gemballa GmbH. based on the Porsche 992 Turbo S. (Picture from: GridOto)
However, it turns out that there are other automotive companies that provide services to modify Porsche models in such a way that they have capabilities that are not inferior to the Cayenne and Macan. Well, this outstanding modification work was carried out by Marc Philipp Gemballa, the son of the late Uwe Gemballa, the founder of the famous Porsche car tuning company, Gemballa.
The Marc Philipp Gemballa Marsien was specially built to run fast in a rough terrain such the desert and perfectly combines all the comforts of a modern supercar with unmatched off-road capability. (Picture from: EnWheelzMe)
Sometime ago, he was proudly presented an off-road supercar inspired by the might of the iconic models of the Porsche 953 and 959 at one of the world's famous rally event, the Paris Dakar Rally through his-owned auto-company that Marc Philipp Gemballa GmbH. As a note, the Marc Philipp Gemballa venture was not related to the Uwe Gemballa's tuning company due to both are  completely different companies.

The off-road supercar mentioned above called the Marc Philipp Gemballa Marsien (Martian, in English), it was specially built based on the Porsche 911 Turbo S 992-generation to run fast in a rough terrain such the desert. Marc Philipp Gemballa Marsien perfectly combines all the comforts of a modern supercar with unmatched off-road capability.
The Marc Philipp Gemballa Marsien boasts adaptive shock absorbers and a hydraulic system that allows you to adjust the ground clearance in the range from 120 to 250 mm. (Picture from: WorldBestCar)
The Marsien's exterior designed by Alan Derosier (an automotive designer known for his outstanding 908 design studies). Its design clearly inspired by the Porsche 959 Paris-Dakar. This off-road supercar features a full carbon fiber body, designed specifically for light weight and cool performance. The bodywork is said to be the product of a partnership with KLK teams, which has more than 20 years of experience developing aerodynamics for the LMP1, Formula E and Formula One racing cars.

Then in terms of performance, Marc Philipp Gemballa chose to work with another Porsche specialists, RUF Automobile to work on the twin-turbo flat six-cylinder engine. So that after the 3,745 cc  engine was upgraded by RUF, so it could spit out power up to 750 hp with a maximum torque of 930 Nm, and to support its fierce engine performance was then the car equipped with an Akrapovic titanium exhaust specially made for this project.

If the clients looking for more power, RUF Automobile provided a second stage power to bring the engine boost up to 819 bhp with enhanced VTG turbo charger and revised ECU mapping and were followed by modifications to the PDK automatic transmission so that it is able to deliver power more consistently.

Since this car is intended for off-road terrain, and to protect the engine from dust and dirt particles, the automaker in collaboration with an Italian air filter specialist, BMC to develop an air filter insert that is uniquely fitted for dusty hot desert conditions. The air filter system is intended to protect the engine from dirt and dust particles, and maintain a sufficient flow of fresh air to allow the engine to run optimally.

In addition to protect the engine from overheating as a result of use in extreme conditions, the Marsien has a redesigned central radiator to direct hot air from the radiator through the NACA ducts through the carbon fiber hood and around the A-pillar, directly to the rear of the car.

As for the legs, the automaker teamed up with KW Automotive to deliver the Marsien fully bespoke suspension with a double-wishbone front setup that relies on solid and active Stamp Control technology, which allows the ride height can be adjusted between off-road and on road modes, while the rear suspension has a multi-link configuration.
The Marsien off-road supercar posed along with its creator Marc Philipp Gemballa during its test drive session somewhere in the UAE' desert. (Picture from: Id.Motor1)
Furthermore the Marsien suspension system can be raised or lowered quickly thanks to the electronic hydraulic lift system in approximately 20 milliseconds, so when in on-road mode, the suspension can be more closer to the ground (120 mm), instead if the car is operating on off-road terrain, its ground clearance could be raised to 250 mm.

For perfect driving conditions in both on-road and off-road modes, the Marsien comes with two sets of specially designed forged aluminum wheels with center locking system, then wrapped with the Michelin Ultra High Performance tires for on-road, and all-terrain tires for off-road use. Meanwhile the lighting system on the Marsien off-road supercar was developed in collaboration with lighting specialist Gerg Lighthouse featuring the latest LED technology.

With all those setups, the car performance becomes very fierce, where the ability to accelerate from rest to 100 kph can be achieved in just 2.6 seconds with a top speed of 330 kph (for on road mode), while in off-road mode, its top speed is limited to only 210 kph.
According to the automaker, the Marsien were made only 40 units and offered with a price tag ranging from €495,000 (around Rp. 8.4 billion), those numbers does not include the taxes and the donor car of the Porsche 911 Turbo S 992. And reportedly again, more than half of them have been sold (on July, 2021) and now, it looks like it's sold out. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | MARC PHILLIPP GEMBALLA | HYPERBEAST | EN.WHEELZ.ME | GOODWOOD | ID.MOTOR1 ]
