A Brian Booth's Voo Doo Supercar: A 25-Year Dream Unveiled

ONE-OFF - As automotive enthusiasts worldwide focus their attention on the 2023 Japan Mobility Show, let's take a step back in time to discuss an extraordinary supercar that recently graced the renowned Pebble Beach lawn during the Monterey Car Week 2023. How could a car as unique as this have slipped under the radar? But, let's not dwell on that...

Back to this remarkable creation bearing the rather unconventional name "Voo Doo," is the culmination of more than 25 years of relentless dedication by an American visionary, Brian Booth since 1997. With over 24,000 hours invested in its creation, Voo Doo draws inspiration from the McDonnell F-101 Voodoo fighter jet and stands as a testament to human ingenuity and persistence.

Brian Booth's journey began after he graduated from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan, and briefly worked with the General Motors design staff. It was during this period that he embarked on the ambitious pursuit of his dream, a pursuit that would span decades and push the boundaries of automotive innovation. Throughout this extensive timeline, the car has undergone continuous refinement, resulting in a truly unique and awe-inspiring masterpiece.

One of the most distinctive aspects of Voo Doo is its bespoke design, with nearly all components, including the lighting units and distinctive Voodoo badges, meticulously crafted from aluminum. The car's body, constructed from a fiberglass composite, represents a significant investment, both in terms of time and resources. Over 25 years, Brian dedicated himself to shaping this remarkable supercar, a project that far exceeds the confines of a typical budget.

As previously mentioned, Voo Doo is powered by a turbine system inspired by military aircraft. This unconventional power source employs a Garrett GTP 30-67 turbine, serving as an auxiliary power unit. While it delivers approximately 40 horsepower, what truly distinguishes this turbine is its ability to run on a variety of fuels, including regular gasoline, diesel, alcohol, and biofuels like E85 ethanol.

It's worth noting that the turbine does not contribute directly to the car's forward motion. Instead, it powers a pair of 5 kW Humvee generators, which, in turn, drive a 400 hp UQM Technologies motor and inverter. A Ford Mustang nine-inch differential with a 5.14 gear ratio transmits power to the massive 22-inch rear wheels, while the front wheels feature 21-inch rim, all using gold (similar to Forgiato designed) rims and shod with Pirelli rubbers.

Brian Booth's ingenuity extends to the car's suspension system, which he personally designed. It features custom unequal control arms and an air system equipped with integral shock absorbers, allowing the car to adjust its ride height as needed. When it comes to recharging the battery, a 110 kW charger takes approximately five hours, while a 220 kW charger reduces the charging time to two hours. With a respectable range of approximately 220 miles, Voo Doo offers a unique driving experience.
In many ways, Brian Booth's Voo Doo supercar is reminiscent of the Koenigsegg Gemera, as its appearance of a supercar while providing space for four adults. (Picture from: CarBuzz)
While it may not match the range or speed of an electric vehicle or a conventional supercar, Voo Doo stands out as a one-of-a-kind creation. The four-seat layout, incorporating headrests from a Voodoo jet, offers practicality and comfort, allowing four adults to enjoy the ride. Even the gauges and head-up display are sourced from an unidentified fighter jet, further exemplifying Brian Booth's attention to detail and commitment to his dream.

The unconventional powertrain, akin to Swedish automaker Koenigsegg, adds to its mystique. The final result may not suit everyone's tastes, but it undeniably showcases Brian's unwavering determination to bring his dream to life, even if it required 25 years and substantial financial investment. Voo Doo is a testament to the power of human creativity and the pursuit of innovation in the world of automotive design. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | VOODOOEVCARBOOTH | CARBUZZ | AUTOPRONEWS.RU ]
