All-new electric sports car with ultra-fast charging similar to the reborn Lotus Elise S1

Green ONES - Again, the collaboration between business actors in the automotive world has succeeded in producing a new sports car inspired by a British classic compact sports car, the Lotus Elise S1. So who is behind this success?
The Nyobolt EV Concept is a light electric sports car similar to the Lotus Elise with ultra-fast charging (100% in less than six minutes) as the collaboration results of Nyobolt, CALLUM and Julian Thomson. (Picture from: Nyubolt)
They are Nyobolt, who worked in collaboration with CALLUM and Julian Thomson on the creation of a light electric sports car similar to the Lotus Elise with ultra-fast charging (100% in less than six minutes) known as Nyobolt EV Concept.

As we know, Nyobolt is a UK-based battery development company for electric vehicles, which recently claimed to have a technological breakthrough that allows ultra-fast charging. To apply this technological breakthrough, the company then collaborated with its compatriot automotive company and designers CALLUM and Julian Thomson to develop proper electric vehicles with ultra-fast charging technology.

As you can see from the collaboration car, which bears many similarities to its inspiration sources of Lotus Elise S1, this is not surprising given the fact that the man responsible for styling the concept is Julian Thomson who is also the father of those British classic compact sports cars. While Thomson is no stranger to Ian Callum as the two worked side by side during their 18 years at Jaguar. For your info, the Nybolt EV was designed in 2021 before Thomson takes up his current role as Design Director for GM Advanced Design Europe.

In short, here's the fully electric sportscar was engineered by CALLUM with sophisticated battery tech by Nyobolt and styling by Julian Thomson who also penned the first-generation of the Elise. The sports car concept is 100 mm (3.9 inches) wider and 150 mm (5.9 inches) longer compared to Elise but remains compact and lightweight despite having a fully electric powertrain.

As you can see, the carbon fiber bodywork looks more muscular compared to the original, thanks to the addition of modern styling traits. The mid-engined proportions are further enhanced thanks to the higher beltline, the toned-up fenders, and the bespoke 19-inches alloy wheels. Then there are the round LED headlights double as functional intakes, while the quad LED taillights also integrate the air ducts. While the front bumper is more reminiscent of the Exige, but the grille still adopts Elise's style.

Other interesting features built into the Nyobolt EV include the mirror-replacing cameras, the side intakes, the rear deck that looks like a vented engine cover, the ducktail spoiler, and the removable composite roof panel which turns it into a roadster. The Elise-inspired looks might be cool, but the ultimate highlight of the Nyobolt EV is the battery technology. Even the most advanced electric cars are said to be unable to match the speed of recharging its batteries. How come? This sports car is fitted with a 35 kWh lithium-ion battery system, contributing to its low weight of around 1,000 kg (2,205 lbs).

The battery pack can provide a driving range of approximately 250 km (155 miles), with a full charge completed in just 6 minutes. Regarding the weight, the manufacturer still hasn't disclosed yet, but only stated the EV weighing 'closer to one tonne than two'. Then what about the battery life? Nyobolt claims that this is not a serious problem as the manufacturer has tested the new battery system on more than 2,000 fast-charging cycles without showing a significant loss in performance.

The specifications may sound futuristic, but Nyobolt claims that its battery will enter production in early 2024 and is "ready to be adopted" across the automotive industry. Unfortuately, CALLUM and Nyobolt didn’t go into specifics about the output figures of the electric powertrain but said that a functional engineering prototype will follow shortly.
Unfortunately, until now there has been no word on whether the Nyobolt EV concept will be produced. If that can materialize, it's certainly going to be good news for fans of the Lotus Elise which has been discontinued in 2021, and effectively being replaced by the all-rounder Emira. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | NYOBOLT | CALLUM | ELECTREK.CO | ID.MOTOR1 | CARSCOOPS | AUTOCAR ]
