Singapore’s first electric taxi

Singapore's limited land has been forced to immediately find a formula harmony between people's lives and automotive. One solution that has come from academic circles who managed to create an electric car called EVA.

EVA has introduced on April 24, 2015, the design was engineered by the TUM CREATE (Campus for Research Excellence And Technological Enterprise), which is a collaboration between the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Technische Universitat Munchen (TUM). EVA claimed to be the first electric car models were designed, developed, and manufactured locally in Singapore.

EVA engineered into a taxi. The 'taxi' option is the result of study and analysis of habits of Singaporeans who often use taxis. Mileage and longer of operational time taxis are considered to be more efficient when only rely on a source of electrical power. Currently the population of taxi is three percent of all cars circulating in Singapore.

Ordinary electric cars need six to eight hours to fully charge and can be used up to 160 km. But according to the TUM CREATE, EVA can swap the entire capacity of the battery to be traveling as far as 200 km. Even more interesting because it is said to charge the battery to full only takes 15 minutes. EVA structures using carbon fiber materials and can be driven up to 110 kph.

As reported by Today Online, in the product presentation mentioned average mileage of taxi operations in Singapore to 520 km. Means EVA only took two to three times a day recharging.

The e-taxi offers the services that would not lose comfort. In the EVA's cabin include air conditioning plus climate controls and entertainment systems. Passengers also get a mobile phone connectivity, expressed also EVA passengers can adjust the audio volume of the sound and air-conditioning temperature.
"Singapore is not an automotive manufacturing country, but the country's economic benefit in the transfer of technology. Now we are one of the leaders in electric car system and is able to offer knowledge and services for the automotive industry in this region," said NTU President Professor Bertil Andersson. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | TODAY ONLINE]

Vietnamese wood-made motorcycle

Motorcycle modification is dependent upon the creativity of its modifier. Often, the modification style was out of the box and rarely think about a lot of people.

One of the out of the box modification was conducted by a 44-year-old Vietnamese man named Dang Van Ha, who lived in the province of Nghe An that using the wood as a material for modifying the motorcycle.

As reported by the VietnamNet on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, almost all parts of the motorcycle is wrapped by wood, including engine parts, shock, even the helmet. Interestingly, those wood having irregular shapes.

Here are several pictures of this unique motorcycle. (All pictures taken from: http://bit.ly/1chWeMi)

As shown in the photos, the wood is not at all symmetrical, even at the handlebar. Maybe the motorcycle owner was deliberately retain the original form of wood, although the varnish layer remains given.

From the same source, this modification motorcycle base is an old motor that has been aged more than 67 years. Even so, the motorcycle model is not mentioned (See another unique motorcycles.).

Who discovered America?

'Whale Rising' site indicates there's a trade route that connects the Bering Strait (including Alaska side) with a civilization that flourished in the East Asian, before the time of Columbus (see the article).

Apparently a lot of other evidence that shows that long before Columbus was born there has been a cultural contact between the nations of East Asia to the New World. Here is the review.

Narwhal and Walrus ivory
In 1913 Berthold Laufer, an anthropologist has published the analysis of texts and artifacts in the journal T'oung Pao. He found evidence that the Chinese people in the past had an interest in narwhal and walrus ivory that owned by people who live in northeast China.
Narwahls are strange and beautiful creatures with long tusks protruding from their heads, often dubbed the unicorns of the sea. (Picture from: http://wwf.to/1ynlRPX)
Narwhal (Monodon monoceros) is the name of a type of whale that is only found in the Arctic Ocean, North Pole. Because of its horns, it was nicknamed as the 'unicorns of the sea'.

While Walrus (Odobenus rosmarus) is a marine mammal spread across the Arctic Ocean and sub-Arctic Sea in the Northern Hemisphere of Earth. A number of walrus ivory of their collection at the time may have come from the Bering Strait.

Plate armors
Some researchers also noted that there are striking similarities in the design of the steel plate used by people in Alaska, China, Korea, Japan, and eastern Mongolia. For example, in 1930, an archaeologist from the Smithsonian Institution, Henry Collins conduct excavations at St. Lawrence Island, off the west coast of Alaska.

In his book, The Archaeology of St. Lawrence Island (Smithsonian, 1937), he called the steel plates began to appear on the island around 1,000 years ago. In the form of a plate made from a combination of ivory, bone, and sometimes also iron.

Such steel plates similar to those developed in some areas of East Asia, including Manchuria, eastern Mongolia, and Japan. Collins writes, the use of steel plate, spread northward from its original area, and finally introduced to Alaska.

Genetic evidences
A number of recent genetic research also reveals the interaction between people from East Asia with the coming of the New World.

Some scientists argue, the arrival of the first humans to the 'New World' started since 15 thousand years ago, by crossing the Bering land bridge (Beringia), whose length is approximately 1,600 km, connecting Alaska now with eastern Siberia at various times in the Pleistocene ice age. The Bering land bridge was finally sunk around 10,000 years ago.
Beringia, also called Bering land bridge, any in a series of landforms that once existed periodically was basically the exposed floor of the Bering Sea between and around Siberia and Alaska. (Picture from: http://bit.ly/1B6JP4p)
However, a recent genetic study also indicates the movement of people from East Asia to the New World in the period thereafter.

Those who live in Rising Whale is probably part of what scientists call culture "Birnirk", a group of people in the past who lived in the 2 sides of the Bering Strait, using boats made of bark. They also use spears to hunt whales.

Genetic studies indicate that people from cultures Burnik are the ancestors of the people who are called 'Thule', which spread throughout the Arctic region of North America to Greenland. Thule, in turn, are the ancestors of the modern Inuit.

Bering Strait is not only the location of the interaction between the people of the 'Old World' and 'New World' which occurred before the arrival of Columbus.

About 1,000 years ago, the Vikings have explored parts of Canada and establish temporary settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland.

The researchers indicated, around that time, Polynesian nation has reached South America, took home the sweet potato. Instead, they brought chickens to be exchanged.

The Great Chinese sailor, Admiral Zheng He

admiral Zheng He, ruled the seas all
the way to India and East Africa.

Many other hypotheses proposed, which opposes the claim that Columbus was the discoverer of America. One popular notion is, the sailors from China that sailed directly to the New World. Although the idea is not widely supported by scientists.

"The traditional story of Columbus discovering the New World is absolute fantasy, it’s fairy tales," Gavin Menzies, a former sailor with Britain’s Royal Navy and author of Who Discovered America, told The Daily Mail.

Menzies has claimed that a 600-year-old map, that depicts North American rivers and coasts as well as the continent of South America in 1418, proves that the New World was discovered by China’s Admiral Zheng He.

That said, a massive China's fleet of 317 ships and 28,000 men which led by Admiral Zheng He who sailed to Europe and Africa and roamed the oceans between 1405 and 1435 or almost 100 years before Ferdinand Megellan - the first to sail from Europe to Asia, the first European to sail the Pacific Ocean, and the first to lead the expedition that aims surrounds globe. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SORCES | LIVESCIENCE | WE ARE ANONYMOUS]

A Big block Chevy powered Smart ForTwo

Limits for modification is difficult to determine. Especially when watching a video uploaded to Youtube by Keith Pufahl. A video recording duration of 1 minute 16 seconds it displays a total creations on the Smart ForTwo with the orientation of the drag race purposed.

Operations are conducted may be a bit "too far", because the Smart ForTwo was born with environmentally friendly concepts. Its exterior design that makes the body curvature almost no angle, were made to prioritize aerodynamics. While the technology in smaller engines for fuel efficiency.

But that has done much different this time even categorized as extreme. Explained, the position of the previous machine behind now pinned in the front of car. Can be seen from the end of the exhaust which is behind the front tire. The monster power comes from the "big block" Chevrolet V8 engine. Compensate for the change, the car's chassis costomized overhauled in order to become more stronger.
As quoted from Road and Track that published a picture of this Smart ForTwo in "naked" condition. From there visible, the protective frame to protect driver who are in the middle of the car. Smart body role only be "clothes", so it can immediately be removed when not needed.
This video taken during testing in No Limit Raceway in Morocco, Indiana, United States. The time record is still not good, because it continued development. The new record is 12.2 seconds solved on a 402 m straight track. The target in under 10 seconds. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | ROAD AND TRACK]
