Newest mysterious giant hole in Siberia

Mysterious giant hole was found in a remote area of Siberia. Now scientists are struggling to find scientific answers to these phenomena, in the midst of the many speculations that milling: Is it former lacing meteor crater, nuclear, caused by an UFO, or a sign of global warming.
Shot in the dark ... Is this enormous crater in Siberia the result of a meteorite impact, or a global-warming induced methane gas eruption? (Picture from: http://bit.ly/1wtuGqR)
Seemingly bottomless hole was discovered by a helicopter belonging to the oil and gas industry that flew over the northern regions of Siberia - a region known for devastating events. Interestingly, the place where the crater was found is Yamal - which means 'end of the world' - in the Nenets indigenous languages.
Newest Siberian mysterious giant hole location in Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region, about 40 kilometers from Bovanenkovo gas field. (Picture from: http://bit.ly/1wtuGqR)
At that location, the most potentially deadly meteor collision in the modern era - the Tunguska Event - occurred on June 30, 1908. Strength reached 1,000 times the Hiroshima atomic bomb. Result was incredible. A total of 80 million trees in an area of 2,000 square miles burned. Fortunately, no casualties. Due to the location of the blast away from the settlement.

However, there is no bright light or explosion that is recorded in the area - which may be the cause of the formation of the crater. According to the Siberian sites Times, that the existence of the hole first known by the helicopter passengers. Konstantin Nikolaev, an engineer who happened to be passing there, then record and upload the video on YouTube. According to witnesses, the hole big enough to get into their Mi8 helicopters, which has a length of 18 meters without touching the edges.

Since the video was uploaded onto the internet crater and spread, virtual world filled with rumors and speculation. Some suspect the hole homemade UFO, a secret door to the depths of the Earth. Or some people thought it was a weapons test site or a meteorite impact scars.

"We can state with certainty, it is not the result of a meteorite," said a spokesman for the Russian Emergencies Ministry, as quoted by News.com.au on Wednesday, July 16, 2014. According to Anna Kurchatova, a Russian scientist from Sub-Arctic Scientific Research Centre believe that the cause is something more logical, like global warming.

Moreover, the frozen soil in Siberia - or permafrost - contains millions of tons of methane gas. As the surface is gently warmed, the gas is released into the air began. A mixture of water, salt and gas may have triggered an underground explosion and trigger the formation of holes. Another possibility is a gas bag may build enough pressure to trigger outbreaks, such as the Champagne corks.
"A team of scientists sent to investigate the hole and will arrive at the site on Wednesday (local time)," as reported by the Siberian Times. Members of the expedition included the scientists from the Centre for the Study of the Arctic and Cryosphere Institute of the Academy of Sciences, Russia. They will take samples of soil, water, and air at the site to determine the nature and origin of the hole.

The crater is found precisely in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region, about 40 kilometers from Bovanenkovo gas field. Region of the peninsula, which juts into the Arctic waters, is a source of Russian gas that exported to Europe. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | NEWS.COM.AU]

As reported from Engadget on Sunday, July 13, 2014, the army has long dreamed of the presence of smart ammunition minimize one target when shooting. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) reveals a technology called EXACTO (Extreme Accuracy Tasked Ordnance).

In a demonstration video that uploaded to YouTube, the EXACTO 50-caliber round and optical sighting technology expects to greatly extend the day and nighttime range over current state-of-the-art sniper systems.

The system combines a maneuverable bullet and a real-time guidance system to track and deliver the projectile to the target, allowing the bullet to change path during flight to compensate for any unexpected factors that may drive it off course.

The EXACTO technology allows bullets are not affected to the wind and weather, even if the shooter attempts to shoot one target, the bullet will fall at a specified point.
The project is reportedly still continue to develop. In the future, smart bullet technology can help the snipers in their mission on the battlefield. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | ENGADGET]

Scientists have found the biggest bird in the World

A group of researchers in the U.S. found a bird fossil. Its age at 25 million years. As reported by the BBC on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, that the fossil was declared as the biggest bird in history. Because its wings span reaches about 6.1 meters to 7.4 meters (20 to 24 feet).

"The fossils that we find truly remarkable. Neither of these aspects of size and in terms of durability," said Daniel Ksepka, a science curator at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Here, an illustration of what may be the largest flying bird, an extinct beast with a wingspan of 20 to 24 feet (6.1 to 7.3 meters) that flew the skies some 25 million to 28 million years ago. (Picture from: http://bit.ly/1zA9SSY)
Actually, fossils of these ancient creatures have been unearthed 30 years ago in South Carolina, USA. However, scientists can identify the species. Then, these new findings published in the PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences) scientific journal in the United States.

Based on the research in terms of how to fly, the bird fossil species included in Pelargonis that looks like an royal albatross. The bird only flapping its wings occasional and rely on air flow to keep it flying. This bird types that only use a little force while airborne.

This giant flying creatures was named Pelargonis sandersi - which touted its size twice of royal albatross. Currently, the royal albatross is the largest bird that love adventure and still can be encountered in the wild.

While of its structure, Pelagornis sandersi similar to giant seagulls that live around the sea. It is also a bird that spends most of its time hovering over the ocean, to hunt fish and squid. The researchers also believe, Pelagornis sandersi also surpassed the Argentavis magnificens bird.

Argentavis magnificens or called condor bird, which lived 6 million years ago in South America. It has a wing span of 5.7 meters to 6.1 meters. Previously, these birds was recorded as the largest bird in the Western Hemisphere.

"In conducting the analysis, the scientists assisted application of computer models to reconstruct by the founded bones arrangement. Result, it was concluded that Pelagornis sandersi can fly at a speed of 10 meters per second.'s Faster than athletes sprinting 100 meters," said Ksepka.

The scientists said that large birds on earth millions of years ago and found many fossils. They are expected to become extinct some three million years ago. However Ksepka and other scientists also do not yet know the cause of the extinction of the bird.. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | BBC]
