The Verificacao by Queen Lekha Chopper

Of the many contestants of the Kustomfest 2016 which was held in October 8-9, 2016, 'The Verificacao' of Queen Lekha Chopper (QLC) became one of the most attracted the event's visitors.

The design of Yamaha XS650 engined motorcycle was simple and carried a typical traditional classic chopper with amazing details. So naturally if the highest award in Japan Chopper and Bobber class successfully achieved. And according to QLC owner Agung Satria, it took time about six months to build this bike and really prepared to perform at the Kustomfest 2016.

"Initially, motorcycle owners want to build of a British motorcycle, due to the components are mainly machinery is not available and hard to find, finally we turn to Japanese motorcycles. We built by using the 1977 Yamaha XS650 engine," said Yaya, as he usually addressed.

After that the work on the motorcycle is started and as if a race against time given the timing of the Yogyakarta's motorcycle festival event approaching (6 months). Fortunately, the machine acquired was in a healthy condition. So that they stay focused on the frame making of 4 mm seamless pipe.

According to the concept, the stern designed hardtail or rigid, while its springer front fork made with a slope angle of 28º. And the fork itself use solid iron material which is then layered with chrome by the builder who had opened the garage from 2011 ago.

Here are several detailed pictures of the Verificacao. (All pictures taken from: http://adf.ly/1f6MkP)

What is unique is the design of the tank as well as the rear fender, looked layered with a grating that is on the inside. Details, this grid whitewashed with dark color, contrast with the matte black tank that sprinkled by glitter.

Unravel the puzzle of magical architectural sites in Tondowongso

An ancient constructions with magical architecture found in the Tondowongso, Gayam village, Gurah subdistrict, Kediri. Now, the archaeologists of the Yogyakarta Archaeological Center (Balai Arkeologi Yogyakarta) is conducting in-depth researchs. The structure was discovered in late 2006 by the local residents when they digging the soil for land fill and making bricks.

The first phase of the research on the structure has been done in 2007 to 2014 ago. And on October 10 to 23, 2016, a team of archaeologists led by Sugeng Riyanto is conducting the second phase of research.
The Tondowongso structure. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1ezmjO)
"However, further research seeks to uncover portions of the sacred complex," Sugeng said when met on the sidelines of excavation on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. The goal is to unravel the story of the site that is now full of riddles.

The structure is expected to cover an area of land covering an area of 120-120 meters was said to be magical because of the plan and the architecture. The barriers that exist in it form a room measuring 3 x 3 meters, so there are 9 fields. If the assumptions drawn on the second area measuring of 350 meters x 300 meters, then the number of field-space gained is 81.

In the context of a religious symbol, the number of plan-field is similar to the Vastu Purusha Mandala concept, a magical architectural concept in Hinduism. The Hinduism building complex built with this concept that in order to prevent the anger of Vastu Purusha, the giant created by Brahma.
A worker cleans a structural part of the Tondowongso site in Kediri, East Java. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1ezmjO)
Once upon a time, the giant is growing fast, furious, and devoured everything on Earth. Another god killed him but Brahma make him immortal. Beside, the Vastu Purusha Mandala being the answer to preventing the giant anger also consider other aspects of the cosmos, especially energy.

Part of the magnificent sites
Tondowongso structure had previously been studied by a team of Institute for Preservation of Cultural Heritage (Balai Pelestarian Cagar Budaya /BPCB) Mojokerto as well as the researchers from several universities. In a previous study came to the conclusion that the Tondowongso site has some similarities with the Temple Gurah structurally and statues.

The Temple Gurah is located 300 meters from the location of Tondowongso site and have been examined by an archaeologist in 1957 ago. The temple dating from the shift of the center of the kingdom from Central Java to East Java.

Because it has similarities with Temple Gurah, allegedly Tondowongso structure was also derived from the same period, precisely between Sindok reign (929 AD) to Kertajaya (1222 AD). Of carbon analysis revealed that the Tondowongso structure comes from 1006 AD. At that time, the king who ruled in Java is Dharmawangsa Tguh.

And the archaeologists believe that the Temple Gurah and Tondowongso structure equally the Hindu Shiva oriented not only from the same era, but are connected to one another. Both, together as one building allegedly as the gate located 300 meters from Tondowongso structure, which is a settlement complex of ancient Hindu.

Sugeng said the complex was really exotic although the conditions are no longer prime. In total, the area of the complex is more than 12 hectares. Currently the Kediri district government has freed a land area of 1 hectare in Tondowongso so that the process of excavation can be done.

Suffered much
Not prime condition of the Tondowongso site is the result of the 'suffering' which experienced for thousands of years. The complex pass through various political dynamics, religious, to the dynamics of nature.

Approximately 1,000 years ago, Ken Arok conguered Kediri Kingdom. Because he came from a different dynasty and religious orientations. Ken Arok then moved the government from Daha to Tumapel. The king's religious conception further up to the offerings to the ancestors.

"It was an initial momentum where the complex began to suffer," said Sugeng Riyanto. Where originally the grand complex gradually but surely become less meaningful.

However, the most severe "suffering" experienced are due to natural factors. One of them is the eruption of Mount Kelud in 1334 AD as recorded in the great book of the Majapahit period titled Negarakertagama written by Mpu Prapanca. Volcanic material burying the site. Then afterward eruption that occurred in 1586 AD also adds to the problem.

Sugeng added, the Tondowongso site "suffering" also experienced when the Dutch government in the 15th century began to open up to the cane plantation to supply sugar to the country. They moved the river which was originally located in the north of the complex, which is then made to flow right into the middle of the complex to drain their cane land.

"That is why the structure that we found today, are broken or is not intact," said Sugeng who previously also reveal the existence of an ancient settlement in Liyangan, on the slopes of Mount Sindoro. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | SAINS KOMPAS]

Also visible tidiness in the execution of modification of the bagger concept motorcycle carrying an engine capacity of 650 cc by combining a classic feel and the changes that lumpy handmade. So the result was even able to fool the eye if in fact this is an old motorbike.

The frame of motorcycle was full custom and made specifically with the model curve. Uniquely in the bottom and rear connection is not there any sector that is welded, but connected by using some screws at the middle between the bike's seat.
Uniqueness of Triumph Bonneville T120 'Inspired' custom bike also can be seen from the winding handmade exhaust models between its twin-head engine. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1ek6qo)
By maintaining a vintage impression, used  the coil spring suspension models in front and rear to support its sturdy feet of the rims of TK 185-21, complete with the drum of Honda SR in front. While the rear wore the Yamaha RD drum.

Its fuel tank designed a quite slim which is then placed under the main frame. Another uniqueness is also can be seen from the winding handmade exhaust models between its twin-head engine.
With these performances it is not surprising if this custom built motorcycle was able to grab the title as Best Custom Bike Show at the Kustomfest 2015.

The unique motorcycle was the work of PsychoEngine, a Purwokerto (Purbalingga)-based workshop got a lot of attention from visitors and the competition juror. Many people wondered if this bike is really able to function properly.

At glance, this bike is performing so unique and its modification style reflects the builder thinking is out of the box. How not, on this motorcycle pinned five cylinders radial engine at a time. Interestingly, the motorcycle was functioning well.

The motorbike built by took the base of 2002 Honda Tiger with multi wet transmission system. According to M. Jusuf Adib Mustofa workshop owner, he working on the motorcycle engine took a fairly long time, ie two years. Once done with the machine, then he continued with the motorcycle frames, which took almost two months.

The changes in engine capacity, thus making the motorcycle's sound becomes very fierce. Take a look the video below:
As a result, the appearance of a muscular motorcycle figure with the exhaust pipes look stretched along the body. Aesthetically also appealing, the engine is mated to the rigid frame and springer front suspension. While the unfinish color combination on the frame, some parts chromated and dark colors adopted on the fuel tank made it appear attractive. Well, the hard work of the builder paid off after the juror stated that Naga Lima was crowned as Best of the Best Kustomfest 2016.

Seeing the Kebo Bule, a lucky-draw custom chopper of the Kustomfest 2016

Many special treat is always given by the Kustomfest, to be enjoyed by the visitors of the annual event, including a lucky draw custom motorcycle made by Retro Classic Cycles.

In building a motorcycle specifically made for the luckiest visitor of the Kustomfest 2016, the Yogyakarta-based workshop Retro Classic Cycles is not just created of different engineering side, but on the detail concept also comes with a thought of an Indonesian cultural heritage background combined with the aspects of special technologies.
Kebo Bule or 'White Giant,' a lucky draw custom chopper bike of the Kustomfest 2016 made by Retro Classic Cycles. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1ed2HM)
Lulut Wahyudi, the owner of Retro Classic Cycles who also the Kustomfest director were not exclusively explore the culture of Yogyakarta, but the richness of cultural heritage in various regions in Indonesia also adds the inspiration.

"The Kustomfest is a special event that combines the art and engineering in which all the fans come from all over Indonesia. This is where we devote all the notions, ideas and ability to design and build vehicles. This includes the background of our lucky draw custom motorcycle in the Kustomfest," he said further.

Now, the Paksi Naga Liman carriage of the Sultanate Kanoman created in the year 1350 Saka or 1428 AD by Prince Losari, which became a carriage of Sunan Gunung Jati of Cirebon as an inspiration for Lulut Wahyudi in designing a custom bike of Lucky Draw Kustomfest 2016 nicknamed Kebo Bule.

"My long dreamy view details such as the carriage is different to the one that I had seen before. In those days it had been prominent in terms of technology that makes the carriage convenient, among others, about the construction of the wheel that takes into account the comfort of passengers," said Lulut.

When he returned to Yogyakarta, with a relatively short time, only 30 days to build a custom motorcycle, Lulut gathering the inspiration from the Paksi Naga Liman carriage into the figure of custom motorcycle based of an American Traditional Old School Chopper combined with the Cirebon motifs nuanced.

"Why did I choose the traditional style of American chopper, because it was eternal and I would like to dedicate this special work in Kustomfest 2016 themed the 5th Reborn Legend and bring a lot of legends. And Retro Classic Cycles are always oriented to Yogyakarta, but whatever inspiration of Indonesian cultural heritage as well as the Cirebon motif is the evidence of our respect combined with the art of design in the world of custom motorcycles," he said.

Every detail ranging from the construction of the frame, handlebars election and riding position has been designed so that Kebo Bule which means 'White Giant' raises glamor and offers a strong blend between art and engineering.

"I have traveled the region in Indonesia and continue to study how the builder to design the bike and engineering process. through these Kebo Bule, I enhance what is obtained by taking into account all angles. For example, the blends of fork springer with the dimension of mini ape hanger handlebar to be a characteristic of the traditional chopper style but does not leave the side of ergonomic and comfort of handling," said Lulut.

Over selection of the Sportster engine, Lulut not necessarily apply to his rigid frame design. However, filled with art engineering that is directly aligned along Retro Classic Cycles handmade works, including the engine accessory of EMD.
In terms of painting, Lulut also now encourage a young painter named Titah Argayoga of Retro Syndicate Kustom Paint to explore his ability to be trusted work on the Kebo Bule painting, including the Mega Mendung batik motif.

Do You want to get these special custom bike? Please buy the ticket for Rp.50 thousand (or approx US. $3.89) only as your appreciation of the work of the nation at the JEC Hall from October 8 to 9, 2016.

Meets the Indian Scout 1200 Custom called El-Diablo

In order to participate in the contest between Indian Motorcycle dealers all over the world, then the PT. Arya Motor Indonesia (AMI) as the Indonesian main dealer of the legendary motorcycle create a modified Indian motorcycle with the Imagineering Custom (IC) modification workshop through the American Chicano style on the basis of a 2015 Indian Scout 1200.

"At the meeting, they were told that this bike will be participated in the contests between Indian motorcycle dealers from around the world in the United States, so I feel challenged to create a motorcycle that truly perfect," said Tedja Wijaya, the garage owner.

"More and more challenged when it knows if the regulation said that the frame must remain under standard conditions. Must turn the brain," he said as he pondered matching the fender design.

Before the new body is created, Tedja first making the legs so that the body can be follow fitting those new legs. "There should not bear, after completion then its 26-inch diameter of Sinister rim directly installed in the front," he said further.
The 26-inch diameter of Sinister rim was not stuck on the radiator thanks to the rake extend. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1eKVoB)
So that everything is installed perfectly, it required the rake extend, rake angle made wider without changing the standard steering head. The shape of rake extend is also unique because it shifted the axis of the front shock absorber becomes more forward.

"With the rake extend, large diameter wheels was not stuck on the radiator," said the garage owner is headquartered in Kelapa Gading Jakarta. Then the rim is wrapped the Vee Rubber tires.

Once installed perfectly, it's time to make a new body for 'El Diablo', so the name given by Tedja to a modified version of the 2015 Indian Scout 1200's. Front and rear fender finally made full dress, more flat to pursue a hallmark of American Chicano style, while the tank is made slightly larger so that it felt fatter.

There is a 'terrible power' under the surface of Lake Toba

Around 74,000 years ago, a supervolcano or erupted, and killing about 60 percent of the Earth's inhabitants at the time. The supervolcano like that until now still has the potential to cause dramatic eruptions that can affect globally. However, the exact cause of the volcano can erupt so earthshaking still largely unknown.
Behind the beauty of Lake Toba, there is a sleeping giant underneath. The scientists have used the remnants of the ancient eruption there, 74,000 years ago, to learn more about these natural disasters. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1eD9XL)
But now, armed with traces of ancient eruptions, the scientists managed to uncover the causes of these terrible natural disasters. Ivan Koulakov and colleagues from the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences researching an underground area that is now Lake Toba, in North Sumatera, Indonesia. By using the seismic data, Koulakov sure that's where the ancient supervolcano located.
Ivan Koulakov and colleagues from the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences looked underneath what is now Lake Toba (shown on map) where the ancient supervolcano existed, using seismic data. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1eD9XL)
"The latest super eruption at Toba, which occurred 74,000 years ago, is regarded as the largest volcanic eruption in the universe of the Pleistocene era," the researchers said.

"The eruption spewed a huge volume of material, such as solid rocks which has the estimated volumes of 2,800 up to 5,300 cubic kilometers," added Koulakov.
The new model revealed a system of complex, multilevel tunnels of magma reaching down to depths of over 93 miles (150km). At a depth of around 93 miles (150 km), gases and 'basic melts' - melted rock low in silicon dioxide - are generated. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1eD9XL)
Koulakov and his team want to find out why the supervolcano can release giant-sized materials. In addition, they also want to know why there was a long pause between the supervolcano eruptions.

To learn how to work these volcanoes, Koulakov and his team developed a model based on seismic data. By using the model, they found that the supervolcano is controlled by a very large magma reservoir. These reservoirs keep tucked away deep magma beneath the crust thickness up enough pressure to create a very powerful eruption.
The researchers found supervolcanoes may be controlled by large, dense magma reservoirs. These reservoirs keep the magma stored away beneath a thick overlying crust until an eruption takes place. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1eD9XL)
Through the created model, Koulakov shows magma intricate system of canals and terraced to a depth of more than 93 miles (150 kilometers). At that depth, gas and other basic melt is produced. The gas and melt it then rose to a depth of 75 km and create huge magma reservoir. And when it reaches a critical pressure caused by trapped gases and molten, magma reservoir began to be emptied and the bulk will go up through the crust.

The Toba supervolcano is not the only one in which the magma reservoirs have been discovered underneath. The same structure is also found under the Yellowstone, in the United States. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | DAILY MAIL]

From a mini car into a classic motorcycle

Do not be fooled by its form at the moment, that similar to the old-British motorcycle. Therefore, its original form was 1965 Mazda B600 mini car. Well, the Japanese automaker actually never ever developing a two-wheeled vehicle. These Japanese brand is better known as a car manufacturer, but if in the history, after the second world war Mazda ever been released the three-wheeled vehicles.

But, thanks to the cold hands of Muhammad Mansyur aka Acung, the owner of Barokah Jaya Motor workshops located in Jl. Amir Machmud No.1, Gunung Anyar Rungkut, Surabaya, the figure of Mazda B600 changed into a classic motorcycle.
An old-British styled motorcycle used the 1965 Mazda B600 engine by Muhammad Mansyur aka Acung. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1dkQH3)
Here's the figure of 1965 Mazda B600. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1dkT9Q)

These unique modification ideas were recognized by the man who joined a local motorcycle club called the PEMUDI'S (Perkumpulan Montor Udhug Indonesia Surabaya), because he was not able to buy a classic motorcycle like those of his colleagues. "Want to buy a classic motorcycle is too expensive. That's why I have chosen this Mazda B600 engine to attach on the motorcycle chassis," said the eccentric man who took a year to build this motorbike.

The first step taken after receiving the machine was designing the motorcycle chassis. "The custom chassis is made to look proportional to the dimensions of the B600 engine," he said further. And then the gearbox taken from an old Royal Enfield (RE) motorbike with a 4-speed transmission system. Interestingly, the position of the Royal Enfield transmission lever is on the right side, while the rear brake lever on the left.
The Mazda B600 engines much hunted for custom made motorcycle engines. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1dkQH3)
Apparently, the RE gearbox and B600 engine could not immediately be paired. Here the process of trial and error occurs. Because the position of the machine that originally installed transversely, but now must be made straight, or rotated 90 degrees. "So the position of the flywheel and clutch should be straightened. The flywheel should be adjusted as well, because the size was too big for a motorcycle," said Acung who working all the process of modifications in his workshop.

Many obstacles were initially suffered from the coupling loose and chains loss because the engine position less straight. In addition, the use of drum brakes are sometimes not able to offset the amount of engine power. The next problems were the heat, "If it brought on slowly run, off course the heat of exhaust and the engine were felt on the feet. Understandably, it's an air-cooled engine originally".
The custom body, tank, front and rear fenders based on the design of BSA C11. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1dkQH3)
Along with time and continuous improvement, now the motorcycle had been more comfortable to ride, even Acung has taken it to the Jogjakarta without problems. Acung said the motorcycle is rarely used for daily due to heavy weight, and he also intends to add the engine cooling system.

Once done with the engine and chassis, Acung began to pay attention to the bodywork. He was not taking the Harley-Davidson style with its famous V-Twin engine, but Acung chose the style of BSA C11 250 cc, an old British motorcycle. To that end, he designed custom body, tank, front and rear fenders based on the design of BSA C11 which was produced from 1939 to 1956. "The original parts of the BSA C11 was only the headlight and front drum brakes," he said.

Not to forget, to look like as a classic motorbike then the legs rely on the forks and front suspension of Suzuki GT185 with homemade shells. While the rear is taken from the Honda GL which later formed the style of vintage motorcycle. Kept spur your adrenaline on the power of two-wheeled monster and stay alive with the true safety riding.
