The Corvette E-Ray: An Impressive Fusion of Hybrid Power and e-AWD

New EV BEAST - Introducing the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray, a groundbreaking sports vehicle from Chevrolet, one of the brands under the auspices of General Motors (GM) that has taken the automotive industry by storm since its unveiling on January 17, 2023. With a rich 70-year history and eight generations of evolution, this American supercar has now embraced hybrid technology and a four-wheel drive system for the very first time.

It seamlessly combines electric battery power with a mid-mounted small block V8 engine, marking a significant breakthrough in its lineage. By implementing the e-AWD drive system, the Corvette E-Ray combines an electric motor with the LT2 V8 engine to create the fastest Corvette ever produced by Chevy. It achieves a 0-96 kph acceleration time of just 2.5 seconds.

The e-AWD system assigns the electric motor to power only the front wheels, providing an electric motor output of 160 hp and 169 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the rear wheels are driven by a 6,200 cc conventional internal combustion engine, generating 655 hp and 637 Nm of torque.

This news brings delight to drivers who desire to use the Corvette E-Ray in snowy conditions, as its advanced four-wheel motion system intelligently allocates the necessary performance to each wheel for optimal forward movement. The drive motor also ensures stability while driving at high speeds. Like other Corvettes, the new E-Ray is available in two body styles: a coupe with a removable targa roof and a hardtop convertible.

When driving the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray through densely populated residential areas, the driver can switch to the electric propulsion system to minimize engine noise and exhaust emissions from the V8 engine, thus avoiding disturbing neighbors. The car features a 1.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, and when its energy is depleted, the engine assists in recharging it.

In terms of speed, the Corvette E-Ray is equipped with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission that offers smooth shifting akin to an automatic transmission, while still providing manual control. The gear shifts are lightning-fast, contributing to the car's performance on the racetrack. It rides on Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S ZP tires.

Behind the wheel, the driver can stay focused on monitoring the vehicle's speed thanks to the Head-Up Display. For those serious about track racing, an additional Performance Data Recorder package is available to help improve lap times. The Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray's head unit supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connections, and it boasts a premium audio experience with 14 speakers from the Bose Performance Series.
The Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray offers different trim levels, starting with the 1LZ variant priced at $102,900. The 2LZ Coupe is available starting at $108,400, and the 3LZ Coupe begins at $113,850. For the Convertible version, the 1LZ Convertible starts at $109,900, the 2LZ Convertible is priced at $115,400, and the 3LZ Convertible starts at $120,850. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | CHEVROLET | ID.MOTOR1 | CARANDDRIVER |  ]
