3 innovative vehicle designs of the Michelin Challenge Design 2016

The design of a revolutionary vehicles, which came out of the conventional rules, sometimes not came out of the famous design house. This is evidenced by the three best designs from the Michelin Challenge Design 2016 competition were exhibited at the NAIAS 2016 in Detroit, United States sometime ago.

1. Google Community Vehicle
The first winner of the design contest is a unique tractor designed by a team led by Indian students named Rajshekhar Dass. This tractor is composed of two main parts. At the front is the driving force that is equipped with a large lamp. Not just any lamp, because it can be removed to be light the lamp house. In the remote villages of India, this is clearly a very useful feature.
The vehicle can be driven to market - and then serve as a stall aswell. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1XP4dt)
At the rear of the tractor has many functions. Part of this course can be used for transporting the harvest, but also can be used as a stall or kiosk. Besides this section can be changed as passenger cars. In other words, on the sidelines of her work as a farmer, the owner of the tractor can be a taxi driver and raises additional money for their family.

That makes the judges amazed is, the tractor is connected to the internet by utilizing the Google project, Project Loon. In emergency situations, the Internet is very important when the tractor was converted into an ambulance.

Dass tractor designed is not associated with Google, but that made the jury liked was the initiative of Dass and his friends to take advantage of an initiative or a scheme like Project Loon, so that the benefits of this scheme can be maximized.

2. Arrierio
The vehicle design became the second winner is still associated with the world of agriculture, this time in the context of a coffee plantation in remote Argentina. In this country, the coffee plantation occupied by many small farmers and often they have to use donkeys or horses to transport the coffee to the nearest processing centers.
This bike is intended to traverse the same kind of terrain that mules climb. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1XP4dt)
The terrain of the coffee transport lines is often narrow, up and down, and unpaved. Seeing the condition of Edgar Andres Sarmiento Garcia designing 'Arrierio,' a four-wheeled motorcycle that can replace a donkey or horse power.

The designer who lives in Bogota, Colombia, is deliberately making the bike 'naked' in the hope will be easier to maintain, and if there are damaging parts, the replacement process will be quick and cheap. To be more environmentally friendly, the coffe transport motorcycle was not using a fossil fuel.

3. Bamboo Recumbent
The third winner of the Michelin Challenge Design 2016 was won by Woo Sung Lee and Chan Yeop Jeong of South Korea, who designed the bamboo rafts. According to Woo and Chan, the raft reserved for the residents in slum area like Navotas in the central Philippines. They are definitely not the ones who can afford to buy a car. Though transportation is necessary, such as to evacuate people during floods.
This vehicle could be used when roads become impassable because of flooding. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1XP4dt)
In Navotas, the flooding mixed dirty waste quickly inundate residential areas due to the large volume of water that comes from landfills, located not far from the settlement. Rafts designed Woo and Chan made of bamboo, which is equipped with a motor. And because the motor is rotating, this mechanism is used in the process of cleaning water.
Those three ideas is of course still in the concept level and can not be ascertained whether it will soon be mass produced. But the competition organizers said those three designs will have an impact on the automobile industry, is not associated with the design but also the scale of production.

"The scale of the massive auto industry today is untenable in the long term," said Ben Ebel, member of the competition committee of the Michelin Challenge Design. And Ebel estimates will appear a model of organization or company that is more focused on the mobility aspect and not the number of units, but the approaches are different, as shown by the bamboo raft, Arrierio motorcycle, or revolutionary tractors from India. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | MICHELIN  CHALLENGE DESIGN | BBC]

The passive WiFi use less power

In the era of internet, WiFi is everywhere, providing remote wireless access to the Internet, and save us tripping over the cables. However, WiFi consumes a lot of energy, and the battery drain connected devices very quickly. Fortunately, engineers from the University of Washington (UW) is ready to save! They discovered a technique that enables WiFi uses 10,000 times less energy than normal.

The latest passive WiFi is also consumes 1,000 times less power, compared to Bluetooth. In fact, compared with conventional methods, this new technology uses almost none of power at all. Although currently only able to transmit data at rates of up to 11 Mbps (megabits per second), far lower than the peak of WiFi speed, which is the data transfer rate is 11 times higher than Bluetooth.

This discovery proves the concept of research that was built with a technique called backscattering WiFi, where the signals sent between a Wi-Fi router and a wireless receiver device manipulated. A previous study by UW showed that low power equipment can be used to reflect and "distort" this signal. Devices that are connected to receive a new distortion as unique data.

The passive WiFi is an evolution of the technique. First, connect to the Internet made only one, which is installed in the router, which is out of traditional Wi-Fi signal. Wi-Fi Sensor Passive reflect and absorb the signal, creating multiple streams of data that can be "bounced" against some of the receiving device.

"Our sensors can communicate with each router, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with WiFi chipsets," said Bryce Kellogg, a doctoral candidate student in electrical engineering at UW and co-author of the study, said in a statement.
"Cool part is that all of these devices can decode WiFi package that we made use of reflection, so you do not need any special equipment," said Kellogg. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | WASHINGTON EDU | ENGINEERING.COM]

German-duo automotive giants show off the future motorcycles

Two German premium car manufacturers, Mercedes Benz and BMW apparently had prepared their futuristic rides. Although these are not formally recognized by the manufacturers, but it give some fresh ideas to us about the two-wheel vehicles in the future according to the designer's perception reliable.

At least through some teaser sketches created and designed by two reliable auto designers, both of them seemed to want to show the attractive design of the motorcycles in the future.

1. BMW i Motorrad Beta | R Concept
As quoted from Worldlesstech, featuring BMW motorcycle concept named 'BMW i Motorrad Beta | R Concept' designed by Sebastian Martinez. Motorcycles are included in this type of sport are white with trim colors typical of BMW is inspired from two-wheel vehicles Sci-Fi nuanced as used in the movie like Tron, Oblivion, and so on.

The BMW i Motorrad Beta | R Concept features a hollow chassis design, a hubless wheel on the front, a magnetic suspension and aerodynamic lines of a racing bike. Although its appearance is very similar to Tron Bike, the dimensions BMW is considering the size is not too large in order to maximize rider control. The use of tires is also smaller than Tron Bike which has a super width tread tire.

2. Mercedes-Benz Revenge 2030 Concept
While Merceds Benz based on information taken from the same source, Worldlesstech issued Revenge which is a vehicle of the future and designed by a Argentine reliably designer named Alfonso Nunez Perea.

Unlike the BMW, motorcycle design is the concept of hyper functional, that is a mix between speed and technology. Mercedes itself will introduce Revenge Concept in 2030. Though the design appear exotic, Mercedes Benz Revenge will likely rely on speed. Seen from the design and position of the rider is specifically designed to support the aerodynamics perfectly while the motorcycle is used.

Unfortunately, both of designers have not released detailed information about the greatness of the engine will be embedded in their future motorcycles. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | WORLDLESS TECH]

The name of Chiron itself inspired from Louis Chiron, the Bugatti's legendary racer, who was influential in building the brand’s legend in the early parts of the last century.

This super fast car alluded to surpass its elder brother Bugatti Veyron. In fact, until now Bugatti Veyron is the fastest car in the world, and brought a 8.0 liter, 16-cylinder, quad-turbo engine that can give the power up to 987 hp and can reach a maximum speed of up to 429 kph.
Bugatti will sell only 500 examples of the Chiron. (Picture from: http://adf.ly/1XgCTX)
This hypercar is expected to surpass its predecessor. The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport is likely to be equipped with a W16 quad-turbo 8.0-liter engine and the super fast car is also using DSG 7-speed transmission system like the Veyron, but the latest hypercar will be get the additional electric motor as an energy booster and if totalized would touch the figure of 1,478 hp.

So if coupled between the conventional engine and electric motors will produce tremendous amount of power which is then channeled to the 7-speed DSG transmission system with double clutch, allowing the Chiron can be driven up to a maximum speed of 463.5 kph. For comparison, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport can only reach a maximum speed of 431 kph. By those specification also, the Chiron seem easily reach 60 mph in just 2.3 seconds or 0.2 seconds faster than its predecessor.
Bugatti Chiron itself will be sold 500 units, which is 50 units more than the Bugatti Veyron when it was produced. This number is predicted to be sold in a vulnerable period of 10 years. Estimated Bugatti Chirion priced at US. $2.5 million or about Rp.36 billion. Quite amazing is not it? *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | TELEGRAPH]
