VT-1 electric Scooter boasts 62 mph

As reported by Motorcycle.com two year ago, Vectrix had teamed with Daimler to produce a smart e-scooter for 2014. Today Vectrix has announced that scooter’s arrival. The new electric scooter boasts interchangeable (no tool required) and scaleable lithium batteries, a patented Planetary Gear Drive system, regenerative braking/throttle technology, a 62-mph top speed and a range of up to 55 miles.

Vectrix says the VT-1 is the first e-scooter equivalent to a 125cc ICE-powered scoot. “The Vectrix VT-1 is remarkable by design,” says Brian Buccella, president of Vectrix. “ The craftsmanship the Vectrix engineers put into this new revolutionary scooter is inspiring. The VT-1 will captivate the consumer and expand the experience electric freedom can bring.”

The VT-1 plugs into standard 220V/110V outlets via a 10-foot braided cord residing under the seat. Charging times are three hours from zero to 80% while zero-to-full charging times range from four to six hours depending on batter configuration. Instead of a belt or chain the VT-1 is propelled by its Planetary Gear Drive system which is a 3-to-1 reduction gear drive. Vectrix says the gear drive system needs no maintenance until a recommended re-lubrication at 200,000 miles.
Like its predecessor, the VX-1, the VT-1 offers lockable storage space under the driver’s seat, as well as a lockable glovebox. All VT-1 models are equipped with ABS assisted front- and rear-disc brakes. Other highlights include an LCD instrument cluster, a modular storage system and a 24-month warranty. No retail pricing was announced.

Kept spur your adrenaline on the power of the two-wheeled monster and stay alive with true safety riding. May God will forgive Your sins and so does the cops...... *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | VECTRIX | MOTORCYCLE.COM]

Spider venom could be new painkillers

Spiders, often crowned as an uninvited guest in many homes, but now has a new reputation, ie is a drug source of pain relievers. Spider venom contains thousands of proteins, including several useful molecules that could one day be made into a painkiller that is very powerful.

Such products can really help millions of patients with chronic pain who are not immune to the usual medications. In the United States alone, the cost of chronic pain is estimated to exceed US $ 600 billion per year due to lost productivity and medical expenses, higher than the cost for cancer, heart disease and stroke combined.

Spider seems not painkillers. Many of the proteins in the venom they activate pain pathways, causing paralysis and muscle spasms for prey spider. And in humans, spider bites can be very painful.

But researchers at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience of the University of Queensland, Australia, which analyzes the poison 206 species of spiders, identified seven compounds among the thousands of toxins in samples that actually block pain signals from reaching the brain. Their findings were published in the British Journal of Pharmacology.

"If we can take the toxins that can hinder these canals and turn it into a drug, then people will not feel the stimulation of nerves that usually cause pain," said Julie Garb, a researcher spider in biology department of the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, who was not involved in the research in Australia.

It is estimated that there are nine million proteins in the venom of 45,000 species of spiders in the world. Only a very few, 0.01 per cent, of the peptides that have so far been investigated for biological activity, according to her. "But perhaps there is only one component that has a positive medical effects and useful, so they tried to isolate exactly what it is. So if we know exactly what it is, then we can produce it as a drug," she said further.

Australian scientists suggest that the techniques they use to filter the spider's venom can be used to test other compounds, identifying useful toxins can be used to create new drugs. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | VOANEWS]

BMW testing the 40 tons electric trucks

BMW Group partnered with SCHERM, a logistics company to operate an electric truck that has a weighs of 40-ton. "The electric truck is a sign that we continue to produce innovative solutions and overcome the logistical challenges," said Hermann Bohrer, factory director of the BMW Group Munich.

The trial will be conducted from the summer to take the route of the SCHERM Group HQ to the BMW Group factory in Munich, eight times a day. Distance of one-way trip only two kilometers.

The electric motor powering the truck makes 138 kW (185 HP) and puts it all down through an Allison 3000 transmission. Since the truck can carry up to 40 tons in total (including its own weight) you can imagine that those 10 miles will take some time to cover as this won’t be a land rocket

BMW calls the truck free of CO2 emissions and silent because it drove by the electric power. The cooperation is called by BMW worth millions of euros that will last a year and it is likely to continue.

BMW also mentioned that since 2014, more than half of their electricity needs from renewable energy supplied.. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | AUTOEVOLUTION]
