Guest Post: Quitting Smoking Is Well Worth the Fight

A lot of people blame their lack of motivation to quit smoking on the fact that “it’s hard.” People use this excuse all the time for all kinds of different things. “I don’t want to find a job, it’s too hard.” “I can’t play that sport because it is way too hard.” There are endless things in life that just always seem to be difficult, sometimes even too difficult, but should that stop you from trying? Some of the things most worth fighting for are often the hardest to obtain. A diamond, one of the most precious things in the world, does not just suddenly appear. Rather, it formed over years of constant pressure for hours on end until the raw material solidifies into one of the most beautiful gems on earth. This may be the kind of excruciating fight you have to face when trying to quit smoking, but it can be done. Here are a few helpful hints to get you on your way.

Know What You Want
A lot of individuals try to quit smoking cold turkey. They just decide to stop right then and there, and usually to little avail. The decision to quit needs to come from a deep desire inside to make a serious life change, and you have to take that decision as if your life depended on it (and it kind of does). If you really want to stop smoking, you have to convince every single part of your being that that is what you truly desire to do. If even one ounce of you doubts it, you will have an extremely hard time accomplishing your goals.

They say one bad apple spoils the bunch. This is so true, especially when trying to quit smoking. If you have one friend, one family member, one thought in your mind trying to convince you to keep smoking, all of the rest of you is likely to follow suit and you will probably fail. What that means for you is that you need to surround yourself with encouraging people, ones who do not smoke and will help you achieve your goal. You need to be totally convinced that you can do it and you need to believe in yourself more than anything. If you have this kind of resolve and determination, you can rest assured that anything is possible.

Ease Your Way Down
Once you have made up your mind to quit, you need to have a solid plan for how you are going to do so. You will probably have a much easier time of it if you slowly ease yourself down one day at a time. Instead of trying to totally cut out all cigarette use on the very first day, do it in little baby steps. Say you might take out three cigarettes per day, until you make it down to only one a day, and then ease your way off of that very last one until you don’t need them anymore.

Entirely losing your dependence on cigarettes is very hard. Once you have stopped smoking, your body will feel the need to replace that bad habit with something else. A lot of ex-smokers actually decide to chew gum, suck on a mint, or have a toothpick in their mouths in order to keep their minds busy and away from wanting a cig. These methods are very helpful in keeping the addiction at bay and allowing you to move forward slowly but surely. Soon enough, you won’t even need any kind of distraction at all and your smoking days will be behind you. *** [By: VALERIE JOHNSTON | TRACY ROSE |  EDITOR: EKA]

Guest Post: The Dangers of Yaz

There are many birth control methods that exist. But what is the best way to prevent pregnancy? The easiest answer is simply not having intercourse. Fortunately, if that is something you are not interested there other options. Alternatives include: birth control pills, condoms, shots, diaphragm, implanted devices, patches and countless others.

The most prescribed birth control pill "Yaz" is also the most dangerous. Yaz ads have misled consumers about the purpose of the drug and hid important information about the harmful side-effects. Now the manufacturers are facing lawsuits from women who were injured by taking Yaz.

It is the drug makers obligation to clarify that they are manufacture are free from defect and are safe for the users. Serious conditions cause by Yaz consist of blood clots, kidney failure, gallbladder problems, hyperkalemia (excess levels of potassium in the blood), deep vein thrombosis (blood clot of the leg), stroke, pancreas problems, liver problems and pulmonary embolism (blood clot of the lung).

Many of these cases have been reported over the years. on October 3, 2008, Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals was reprimanded by the FDA for misleading television commercials advertisements. The lawsuits stem from the serious number of the heart and blood disorders experienced by Yaz users.

Lawsuits against Yaz

The ads that were aired were misleading because they broadened the drug's indication, overstated the efficacy of Yaz and minimized the serious side effects associated. Due to its misleading advertising Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, Inc is now facing thousands of claims from women injured using Yaz without complete knowledge of the potential side effects.  Yaz claimed to be a treatment for premenstrual syndrome but was never evaluated.

Too this date there have been 129 lawsuits filed against Bayer regarding Yaz. Even though Yaz changed their commercials and advertisements scientist still suggest more testing. In addition to more testing of Yaz it is also recommended there should be better labeling of the possible risk of taking the drug.

If you are taking Yaz and experiencing any of these side effects contact a doctor immediately. The side effects could become fatal so if you are experiencing one of these you may be entitled to a cash settlement.

When looking into a birth control solution it is important to look at all the facts. Although Yaz is successful for preventing pregnancy the pros do not outweigh the cons. Yaz is a dangerous drug and its side effects could be very serious. These medical companies will do anything (including false advertising) to get you to prescribed.

Even though these side effects don't affect all users it is still important to reconsider your option of Yaz. Yaz is dangerous and you may be able to get a big cash settlement of you are a female injured by one of the side effects.*** [By: PHILIP RUDY | EDITOR: EKA]

Guest Post: Electric Car Servicing and Maintenance

Petrol and diesel-powered cars ruled the previous century. However, electric cars are entering new markets every year because of their low fuel (electricity) costs and also relatively low maintenance costs compared to gasoline-powered cars. Also, these cars are environment friendly and are famously called as 'green cars.' Electric cars are being produced all around the world today due to increasing gasoline costs and also environmental issues. Most customers purchase these cars for their lower handling costs and also the 'zero emission' factor.

The increase in the sales of electric cars is a direct consequence of the fact that these cars save a lot of money to the owner. Electricity costs lesser than gas. Most electric cars are serviced by authorized service centers recommended by the dealers from whom you buy the car. These cars do not contain combustion engines and operate with the help of batteries and an electric motor. Let us try to understand more about what kind of service and maintenance is required for electric cars.

Service and Maintenance
Electric cars contain very less parts inside them as compared to gasoline-driven cars. Therefore, the maintenance costs of these cars are significantly low. The batteries of electric cars last for approximately 100,000 miles. This is the only big maintenance issue. Other than this, there are no major problems with electric cars that require a lot of spending.

Electric cars contain an electric motor that drives the car with some six to seven more parts that help in rotating the tires. Estimates suggest that maintaining an electric car can cost one-third the amount it takes to maintain a normal gasoline-driven car.

The batteries are the most expensive parts in an electric car. Batteries lose their ability to hold a charge over time. This is true for all kinds of batteries. After some 100,000 miles, you may need to change your batteries. These can get so expensive sometimes that buying a new electric car would seem a better option.
The motor brushes in an electric car wear out over time due to constant friction. These brushes may need replacement after nearly fifty to sixty thousand miles. It is also good to carry out periodic checks to make sure the electric components and minor parts are all fine.

The maintenance of electric cars compared to other types of cars is significantly low. Due to the fact that these cars do not contain complex engines with parts like pistons or valves, the maintenance costs reduce to a great extent.

Conclusion
It is wise to have a proper understanding and knowledge of electric cars before purchasing one. Make sure to ask the dealer in detail about things that need regular checks in these kind of cars. Also, enquire about servicing options and requirements. Electric car servicing definitely requires less money than a gas-powered car. Finding a good auto mechanic who can help you with repairs of your electric car can take some time. However, mechanisms of electric cars are very simple and relatively easy to understand. This is the reason most mechanics can handle repairs of these cars with relative ease. *** [By: ERIC MUHANJISERVICINGSTOP | EDITOR: EKA]

Guest Post: Are German Cars Really the Most Reliable?

German cars have always been popular because of their reputation. They say all good things come to an end. Recently there have been many accusations aimed at German cars claiming that they are not as reliable as they seem.

WarrantyDirect, a warranty provider recently carried out a study which pointed out that German cars are the most likely to get problems with their engine. They have 50,000 policies and are the market leaders within their industry.

BMW, Audi and Volkswagen were pointed out for being the most vulnerable to repairs. With Audi being the worst German car, second came MG. Every 1 in 27 Audi failed and every 1 in 13 MG’s also failing. Mini, a German owned car came in third place with a rate of 1 in every 40 engines failing. BMW were in seventh place with 1 in every 45 engines needing repairs and Volkswagen came in at 9th place with a rate of 1 in every 52.
German brands, including Volkswagen, didn't perform well in the study by WarrantyDirect. (Picture from: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/)
Japanese cars have also been known as a reliable brand and they didn’t disappoint in the ratings. Honda finished in the number one spot, with 1 in every 344 cars failing. Toyota finished in second place with a rate of 1 in every 171 failing. Mercedes were the best ranking German brand, finishing in third, recording an engine failure rate of 1 in 119.

Top 10 Car Failures:
  1. Honda (failure rate: 1 in 344)
  2. Toyota (failure rate: 1 in 171)
  3. Mercedes-Benz (failure rate: 1 in 119)
  4. Volvo (failure rate: 1 in 111)
  5. Jaguar (failure rate: 1 in 103)
  6. Lexus (failure rate: 1 in 101)
  7. Fiat (failure rate: 1 in 85)
  8. Ford (failure rate: 1 in 80)
  9. Nissan (failure rate: 1 in 76)
  10. Land Rover (failure rate: 1 in 72)
Bottom 10 Car Failures:
  1. MG Rover (failure rate: 1 in 13)
  2. Audi (failure rate: 1 in 27)
  3. Mini (failure rate: 1 in 40)
  4. Saab (failure rate: 1 in 40)
  5. Vauxhall (failure rate: 1 in 41)
  6. Peugeot (failure rate: 1 in 44)
  7. BMW (failure rate: 1 in 45)
  8. Renault (failure rate: 1 in 46)
  9. Volkswagen (failure rate: 1 in 52)
  10. Mitsubishi (failure rate: 1 in 59)
The highest cost of an engine failure comes from a Range Rover Vogue, costing £12,998,46. Duncan McClure Fisher, the WarrantyDirect Managing Director stated that engine failures are the most feared types of repair. The cost of parts and labor time needed to fix such a problem is on the larger scale when compared to any other sort of repair. *** [By: ERIC MUHANJI | SERVICINGSTOP | WARRANTYDIRECT | TELEGRAPH | EDITOR: EKA]

Guest Post: Why do Users Still Prefer Windows 7 over Windows 8?

Since the release of Windows 7, the computing field has changed significantly. In the past, desktops and laptops differed from smart phones and tablets considerably.

In the past few years, however, the lines between these device classes have been blurred. In response, Microsoft has attempted to create an operating system that bridges this gap.

However, the release of Windows 8 has been met with poor reviews and little enthusiasm. Here are a few of the reasons why people prefer Windows 7 to Windows 8.

- Familiarity
While Windows Vista was unpopular, it came with many new computers. As a result, people became used to the interface. Windows 7 was similar, and the differences between it and Windows Vista were minimal. Windows 8, however, has departed from the paradigm established in the previous two iterations of Windows, and many users are reluctant to make the switch.

This is not a new trend; many people were uncomfortable with Windows Vista partially because it differed significantly from Windows XP. If Windows 9 implements some of the interface features of Windows 8, people may be more comfortable with it.

- Strange user interface
Windows, Mac and even Linux distributions share a number of user interface similarities. Programs are accessed on the desktop or through a drop-down menu, and programs are organized in a logical manner. On smart phones and tablets, however, this paradigm does not work well, and a number of different paradigms are used.

Windows 8 implements the Metro interface, which breaks from the traditional desktop metaphor. Despite the availability of this interface on Windows mobile devices, few are familiar with it, and many elements of this paradigm seem unfamiliar on desktops and laptops.

- Two user interfaces
Because Metro differ so greatly from the traditional desktop paradigm, developers have to code specifically for it. As a result, developers have to make significant changes to their code, and many are unwilling to make the change unless Windows 8 proves to be a success. Because of this, users often have to deal with two separate interfaces when using Windows 8.

The lack of seamless integration between these two user interface paradigms makes Windows 8 awkward and clunky. With the lukewarm reception Windows 8 has received, many development companies have stated that they will not implement a Metro interface unless sales improve in the future and Microsoft commits to the Metro interface wholeheartedly. Users are reluctant to upgrade from the seamless Windows 7 interface to one that is unproven and ungraceful.

- Few advantages
Because Windows 7 and Windows 8 run similar code bases and offer similar features, most programs developed for Windows will continue to support Windows 7. In fact, many still support Windows XP.

Coupled with the lack of other advantages, there is little incentive for current users of Windows 7 to make the upgrade. Upgrading is relatively expensive, and Microsoft has not provided compelling reasons to make the transition. Almost all users of Windows 8 use it simply because it came with their computers. *** [By: ANDI G | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES]
