A unique Ferrari 348 TB 'Elaborazione' by Zagato

Unique ONES Again, we discuss the unique cars have been appeared and presented in the world's automotive in the 1990s era by one of the famous Italian coachbuilders, Zagato based on a prancing horse logoed sports car.

Well, in between 1991 and 1992 when a number of daring Ferrari owners to let Zagato extensively explore modifications of their Ferrari 348 TB (Trasversale Berlinetta) to be something more catchy and fresher that later known as the Ferrari 348 TB Zagato Elaboraziones.

For a moment we look at the donor car, namely the Ferrari 348 TB which was first launched by Ferrari in 1989 and at first glance the car similar in shape to its predecessor the Ferrari Testarossa. This car also has great running capability due to it has an engine capable to spit a maximum power of 300 horsepower and can be accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.6 seconds.

This modified car still uses the same engine and gears as those used by the standard 348 TB. If then this modified car looks to be faster than the standard one, this is possible and makes sense, due to each owner freely can upgrade the car elsewhere as their wishes and also remembering that Zagato is not in the tuning business.

Then if you take a look at the exterior, it's clear that Zagato had almost completely revamped the whole car by using handcrafted and seduced aluminum panels based on the Pininfarina's original form. Meanwhile at the car's front, the original center grille and headlights of the 348 TB were removed, instead, a new bumper was installed with round headlights and the Prancing Horse logo in the middle. Each side is flanked by an enlarged NACA channel for the engine, and it sits atop a matching side skirt.

Then on the back, Zagato made a new engine cover that is equipped with clear glass to show the chunk of the V8 engine mounted underneath. The such layout was only applied in 2000 by the Maranello based premium car manufacturer on the Ferrari 360 Modena Spider. Further the rear's changes are seen in the installation of three new lights and the addition of an electronically operated spoiler.
The Ferrari 348 TB Zagato Elaboraziones is applied the typical Zagato's Double Bubble roof that could be maintained enough headroom although it has the lower roofline. (Picture from: MotorTrend)
Perhaps the only modification made by Zagato and will never be on any other Ferrari model is the Double Bubble roof which has been the typical touch of the Italian coachbuilder since the 1960s. The idea is that the Zagato applied lower the roofline of the car, but still able to be maintained enough headroom for the car's occupants underneath. That's some kind of an elegantly simple idea which had never applied on by other coachbuilders.
Other modifications attached on the Elaborazione including the custom OZ Racing alloy wheels, external fuel filler caps including a three-inches rearscreen and a completely reworked interior by suede covered upholsteries (none of 10 cars have same interior). Initially, the Italian coachbuilder Zagato announced would be made the Elaborazione as much of 22 units, but in the end only 10 cars had ever made. Today, might be each have aged but still looks cool to this day. And of course its price had been skyrocketed if You wanted to have one now. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | SUPERCARSNET | EXCLUSIVECARREGESTRY | MOTORTREND | FORZA-ROSSA ]
