Lo Res: A Quirky Electric Car from a Shoe Designer

Weird ONESStepping into the second millennium, a growing fleet of electric vehicles not only showcases artistic aesthetics but also emphasizes space, safety, and style. While swift and secure transportation remains crucial in our modern world, it's essential to recognize cars as stylish fashion accessories. United Nude, a Dutch shoe design company, exemplified this idea by entering the realm of transportation technology with their creation—the Lo Res concept car.

The Lo Res car is constructed from polycarbonate, giving it a striking resemblance to a tank from a 1990 computer game called Spectre VR. Using the same process employed in crafting their iconic hats and footwear, United Nude has brought to life this abstract automotive design.

The inspiration for the Lo Res came from the 3D model of the legendary Lamborghini Countach, originally designed by Marcello Gandini in the early 1970s. Through innovative design techniques, the car took on a polygonal form, resulting in a captivating "sculpture" that retains the essence of the classic Countach while embodying a unique and modern aesthetic.

This two-seater marvel features a matt black polycarbonate body that envelops passengers in what feels like a transparent capsule. With its doorless design, the entire top section of the car hinges up from the rear, providing easy access to the interior.

To ensure safety, the Lo Res unique-shaped car has a limited speed of 50 kph (31 mph) by using its electric motor. Inside, the minimalist interior boasts a hexagonal steering wheel and other polished stainless-steel elements, adding a touch of sophistication to the overall design.

The car was exhibited at the prestigious Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, where it garnered significant attention. Following the exhibition, the museum offered the car for sale, with a notable gesture of donating half of the proceeds to an environmental nonprofit organization, showcasing a commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.

The auction for the United Nude Lo-Res Car closed on October 15, 2021, with a final selling price of $111,111 (approx Rp. 1.534 billion). This impressive sum reflects not only the uniqueness of the design but also the appreciation for artistry in the automotive industry.
The United Nude Lo-Res Car truly exemplifies the creative potential of automotive design, seamlessly blending innovation, style, and a touch of philanthropy. This exceptional creation showcases the transformative power of design, pushing the boundaries of what a car can represent in our lives. With such inspiring projects, we can look forward to more groundbreaking designs that blur the lines between art and transportation in the future. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES [04022016] | UNITED NUDE | DEZEEN | CARANDDRIVER ]
