5 Profiles of the Hybrid Race Car

Cars with hybrid technology is not just present in the streets, but has been used to compete in the race world. Remarkably hybrid cars were able to demonstrate a fierce performance by becoming the first champion 24-hour endurance race at Le Mans, France, some time ago.

Not just one, but three hybrid race car technology and able to master the classical race and won as the first to third. They beat the cars with conventional fuel technologies for the fastest to the finish line. Automobile manufacturers in the last two years are very serious about developing hybrid technology for the competition. Until 2012, there were five manufacturers who have introduced their hybrid cars, which are:

1. Audi R18 E-Tron Quattro
This is the world's first hybrid car that won the Le Mans 24 hour event. Audi R18 E-Tron Quattro driven gasoline engine and electric motor. With very sophisticated hybrid technology because it uses kinetic energy to charge the battery that powers an electric motor.

Working process of this technology is to store the braking energy as electricity in batteries.

The electric motor is used for moving the front wheels, while the V6 TDI diesel engine is channeled to the rear wheels. The result is a combination of power that reaches more than 600 horsepower. Due to the weight of the hybrid technology is quite heavy so the car body is made of carbon fiber, and so does the transmission.

2. Toyota TS030 Hybrid
Cars made by Japanese manufacturers is a strong competitor of Audi in the event of the Le Mans 24 Hours. Toyota TS030 Hybrid won the second and third in that arena. The design and technology developed by Toyota Racing headquarters Toyota Motor GmBH. in Cologne, Germany.

This racing car engine relies on a capacity of 4-3 liter V8 gasoline and electric motors with electrical energy storage capacitor Nisshinbo innovation results.

3. Peugeot 908 HY
PSA Peugeot Citroen sport division to develop a 908 HY race car for competition. The technology relies on three main parts, namely the electric motor power 60 kw which combined with conventional combustion engine.

One other component is the energy converter that is placed on the back of the front right wing. This tool controls the flow of battery power supplied to the electric motor.

Peugeot 908 HY can be steered by using only the electric motor, combustion engine, or a combination of both. Electric power obtained from the lithium ion battery 600. The battery itself is on average takes 20-30 seconds to be recharged.

4. Honda CR-Z Hybrid
Honda CR-Z purposely developed the Hybrid to enliven the exhibition race alternative-powered cars at Le Mans France. Honda CR-Z racing at class named Le Mans Vers Le Futur or Le Mans for the future.

Honda CR-Z hybrid racing version of the engine bearing the 1,500 cc 4-cylinder turbo-charger devices are added so that its power increased to 200 horsepower.

As a partner is a magnitude 7 kw electric motor.

5. Porsche 918 RSR
In contrast to other hybrid race car, Porsche 918 RSR is a prototype racing car, prepared for the race arena in 2013. Porsche 918 RSR is a middle-engined coupe that uses the material carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) in the body.

One unit of the electric motor to provide additional power boost of up to 75 kw, resulting in a total power 150 kw. If the electric motor and a V8 engine to operate at the same time the 918 RSR entire power output of 767 horsepower. *** [OVI | PIKIRAN RAKYAT 22062012]
