Incredible Ethec able to reach 400 km on a single battery charge

While electric cars are getting closer to the performance of oil-fueled cars, even today some are able to surpass them. In smaller scale vehicles such as electric motorbikes are still struggling to match their predecessors in terms of mileage.

A team from ETH Zurich and Zurich University of the Arts designed an electric motorcycle given a name of Ethec, which is currently claimed to be able to reach 400 km in a single battery charge. The motorcycle that is still in the prototype stage utilizes a large-capacity of 15-kWh battery. It can be seen from the outside of the motorbike that there is a large box where the energy source comes from. (See the picture below).

Ethec's team claims those battery capacity can be maintained for years thanks to the heat control system embedded in the rear side of the motorcycle. There's the fin shaped object will ensure the battery is not too hot when driving or charging. The battery charging process only takes about an hour.

On the dashboard, it looks minimalist control panel in the form of a 7-inch touch screen tablet that can be connected to a smartphone via a Bluetooth network.  According to the team as well, the owner of this motorcycle can activate the engine without a key. This method is much safer than conventional keys which are very dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands.

The maximum power produced by the electric motor can reach 50 kW or 67 horsepower. So far the team has not tested the maximum speed of these electric motorbike. But on the latest test drives, they get 126 km/hour.

Dispite from the Ethec's design that looks unattractive and seems unacceptable in the electric motorcycle market today, but the distance of 400 km is an extraordinary offer. 

Yes, Ethec itself is currently not in its final form, the team still has time to improve the design and performance of the motorcycle. So that there are still other possibilities that are better for the design and performance. Let's wait the results later.
