This machine can change water into fuels

Recently has created a machine that could produce fuels without need of drilling is only by combining hydrogen and CO2. How? The machines made by a German clean-tech company named Sunfire GmbH and the key element is the Fischer-Tropsh process which was converts carbon monoxide and hydrogen into liquid hydrocarbons.

To obtain hydrogen and carbon monoxide from water and carbon dioxide requires several steps. First of all water used is converted into steam, then oxygen and hydrogen are separated in the solid oxide electrolysers. Hydrogen is then used to reduce CO2 to CO, which is then combined with hydrogen to form hydrocarbons.

This process is not as bizarre as it sounds, and requires a large amount of electricity in the beginning to turn water into steam. But this time, Sunfire claim that this whole process is to have the energy efficiency of about 70 percent. It is far better than most conventional gasoline or diesel engines.

This machine costing seven digits can produce about one barrel of fuel per day when recycle 3.2 tonnes of CO2. Based on that, it would require a large number of machines and cash to meet the global demand for fossil fuels.

"This rig enables us to prove technical feasibility on an industrial scale," said Sunfire CTO Christian von Olshausen. "It is now a matter of regulatory factors falling into place in a way which gives investors a sufficient level of planning reliability. Once that has occurred it will be possible to commence the step-by-step substitution of fossil fuels.
