The Iranian newest drone

The Iranian government on Monday, November 18, 2013, showing off their latest drone or Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), as quoted by the Iranian official news agency, IRNA. The unmanned aircraft, named 'Fotros' can be armed with missiles and claimed to be able to fly as far as 2,000 kilometers non-stop.

"The Fotros drone has a operational cruising range up to 2,000 kilometers and can fly at an altitude of 25,000 feet (7,620 meters), for 16-30 hours," said Mohammad Dehgan, Iranian Defense Minister. Dehgan also added that the drones can carry out reconnaissance missions or attack by firing air-to-ground missiles.
The Shahed 129 drone is a combat UAV capable of carrying eight bombs or domestically-manufactured Sadid missiles at the same time, and is designed to hit stationary and mobile targets alike. (Picture from: http://www.irna.ir/en/)
"This aircraft successfully passed on the tests and also indicated that international sanctions is not an obstacle to the progress of the Iranian defense industry," said Dehgan in the Fotros drones inauguration ceremony.

In recent years, Iran developed an ambitious drone project and cause great concern for the U.S. and Western countries. At the end of September, 2013, the elite Revolutionary Guard forces announced mass production of 'Shahed 129' drones, which is claimed to be able to fly for 24 hours as far as 1,700 kilometers and capable of carrying eight missiles.

In the same month, Iran also showed off their drones named 'Yasser.' The drone made for reconnaissance mission capable, and it also able to fly for eight hours with a range of 200 kilometers at an altitude of 4,500 meters. Yasser base produced from ScanEagle, the U.S. drones which is claimed by Tehran was captured in December 2012.
