Near Field Communication (NFC) Facilitate Transactions

If we look at the history of payment transactions, before there is ease of electronics one must take the money to the bank by lining up at the counter, so you should take the money to use for a specified period of time given the considerable effort to take some money. With the automated teller machines (ATMs) everywhere, attempt to take the money may be light enough so a person taking money for a short duration. In addition, holders of ATM reduces the risk of crime; money theft / robbery and others because of money taken is usually less when compared with taking money at the bank counter.
With the development of information and communication technology, comes the new electronic payment instruments that became popular in Indonesia such as credit cards and debit cards. Now the technology to support payment transactions became more advanced, we can pay for our groceries by pressing the button on our own phones. This allows our cell phones to communicate with other electronic devices, all because of NFC technology (Near Field Communication). Near Field Communication (NFC) is a set of technology-based wireless connectivity technology "Radio Frequency Identification" (RFID) that uses magnetic field induction to enable communication between electronic devices within close proximity. NFC is a set of short-range wireless technology, usually require a distance of 4 cm or less. NFC operates at 13.56 MHz and ranges from 106 kbit / s to 848 kbit / s. NFC always involves an initiator and target, the initiator is actively produce RF fields that can power a passive target. Technology Near Field Communication (NFC) can make life easier and convenient for users around the world in conducting transactions, such as the exchange of digital content, simply connect the electronic device to an electronic device that has a touch of NFC technology, users can also buy any tickets only by enabling the NFC on the phone. The advantages of NFC lies in its role as a technology that can open various forms of communication and transaction in a very comfortable when used by the user. NFC allows people to do what they want by touching or placing their device close to the desired service. This makes the forms and other interactions elektroriik services more accessible to many people. NFC works between two adjacent devices (usually within a few centimeters). Once the connection is made in seconds, information can be exchanged between two devices, either using NFC directly or through other wireless technologies like WiFi, Bluetooth, UWB or ZigBee. Devices that have been using NFC chips, such as smartphones, will result in a more interactive services easy and convenient to use for consumers. Consumers will tend to adopt the most convenient way to access and pay for goods and services. NFC is used in cell phones, cell phones can turn into a means of payment of financial transactions as well as credit card [1]. In addition consumers can feel comfortable in transaction, another advantage is that it can reduce the cost of paper production costs such as ticketing or proof of payment. NFC provides the best medium for the identification of a secure protocol that validates the data transfer. It allows users to access digital content and connect with other electronic devices simply by touching or carrying the device in close proximity. NFC operates in licensed frequency bands with a standard 13.56 Mhz with a distance of more than about 20 cm. Offering data transfer rates of 106 kbit/s, 212 kbit/s and 424 kbit/s. For two devices that communicate using NFC, one device must have a NFC reader, which is basically an integrated circuit that contains data, connects to the antenna, can be read and written by readers. There are two modes of operation covered by the protocol 'NFC' ie active and passive.
  • In active mode, both devices generate the radio itself to transmit the data.
  • In passive mode, only one device produces a radio field, the other uses load modulation to transfer data.
Passive mode of operation is very important for battery-powered devices like cell phones and PDAs that need to prioritize the use of energy. Protocol "NFC" allows the device to be used in power saving mode so that energy can be saved. NFC can make users easier to pay for something, buy tickets to use public transportation, and use of other public services. A study conducted by ABI Research said that in 2007, the use of NFC technology found in electronic devices such as mobile handsets, PCs, cameras, printers. For now and in the future, NFC devices will be compatible and close to human life, such as the advent of cell phones, especially smartphones that have NFC technology in it. Can be used for cash register, payment in public places or shopping center, could be a cash machine, to help pay the transportation such as bus stops and other points of interest, can be connected with a poster that also has the NFC technology, can be vending machines and meters parking, as the entry system and door opener. With the presence of emerging NFC computing becomes ubiquitous, all connected to the network, people have the option to form a connection that suits their needs at any given time.*** [ZULFI NUGRAHA | PIKIRAN RAKYAT 09062011]
