This little creature is amazing, everything about it always have benefits for the welfare of human life, from it use as a medicine to cure various diseases up to detect landmines.

The Beekeeping Study Center at Institute of Tropical Disease - Airlangga University (Pusat Studi Perlebahan, Lembaga Penyakit Tropis (LPT) Universitas Airlangga), Surabaya is conducting clinical trials on the benefits of bee propolis to cure the HIV / AIDS. This research was inspired by the bee venom test in America that was manage to cure a nine years girl. Chairman of the Beekeeping Study Center (Pusat Studi Perlebahan) LPT Airlangga University, James Hutagalung said his study group also do the same.

However, James and his team carried out tests on patients with HIV / AIDS by combining saliva or propolis therapies and bee venom. Research with bee venom is mostly done abroad. But this is for the first time in Indonesia. The bee venom was able to penetrate the HIV / AIDS virus cell walls. It didn't destroy the virus but just penetrates, so the virus will be shrink, kill each other and are eventually lost.

James and his colleagues conducted a clinical trial for an adult male patient with HIV / AIDS. This patient came to the LPT Airlangga University in coma condition for three-four weeks. In three weeks with the propolis administration, the patient is experienced significant changes. The result is quite surprising, the patient is conscious and been able to open his eyes.

During the therapy, the patient was given a dose of 500 milligrams of propolis three times a day. The propolis tablets that has been crushed then inserted into the infusion fluid in the morning, afternoon and evening. The propolis addition, patient was also treated with bee stings therapy once a week, where is the patient received two times of the bee stings, on the left and right rear neck.

"The active ingredient that plays an important role in the process of cell destruction is called melitin that derived from the bee venom. While the propolis has seven active ingredients, and one of which is a flavonoid," said James, on Tuesday, May 28, 2013.

The propolis has a black color and derived from the beehives. The propolis is a mixture of nectar and bee's saliva. The propolis for this purpose is collected from the species of European bee, Apis mellifera. From the collected propolis that taken its extract by maceration process. With the comparison, one kilogram of propolis mixed with five liters of ethanol. Then shaken for two weeks. The process is called maceration.

After the maceration process, the propolis mixture is dried with rotavapor or evaporation device. From this process leaves the crystals or propolis extract. The extract can be utilized as they are made in the form of tablets and directly given to the patient.

"The provision of the natural medicine is carried out simultaneously with antiretroviral drugs," says James. The therapy is administered over a period of three months with the approval of the patient's family. James hopes in the next three months to a maximum result, where is the patient could be healthy again. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | DAKWATUNA.COM]
