The Chimpanzee Memory Higher Than Human

In this one skill, chimpanzees may be more intelligent than humans. A study showed that chimpanzees have a short-term memory than humans in general.

In a video presented by Japanese researchers at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in Boston, USA, February 14, 2013 last. A chimpanzee named Ayumu demonstrate extraordinary abilities. Chimpanzees were able to remember the sequence and location of the numbers 1 through 9 are displayed randomly on a computer screen for a few moments.

Ayumu also learn numbers 1 to 19 and be able to appoint any number in the sequence increases. "It has never been shown before," said Tetsuro Matsuzawa, researchers at the Primate Research Institute, Kyoto University. Video was invited whisper in awe of scientists and journalists in attendance. "Do not worry, no one can do it," said Matsuzawa. "It is impossible for you."

Only a few people who have the ability to do that, the people who suffer from savait syndrome, which is usually followed by mental retardation. "So, this is really beyond the power of ordinary people," said Matsuzawa.

In contrast, the six chimpanzees were tested could remember the location and sequence of nine numbers quickly. Short-term memory of this extraordinary help chimpanzees survive in the wild, because they should be able to make decisions quickly and complicated. Working memory is the active form of short-term memory, mental workspace that makes the brain can think of several things at once simultaneously.

For chimpanzees, working memory is a marvelous helping the animals as they move from one tree branch to another branch in search of food, or decide what to do when the animals from each group competing threatening. *** [LIVESCIENCE | TJANDRA DEWI | KORAN TEMPO 4148]
