Calà, a Lambo that has never saw the light of day

In the late 1980s and towards the 1990s, Lamborghini was incessantly looking for designs that would replace their old model Jalpa. The aim is to produce cars that have competitive prices and can be produced in larger quantities.

Then in 1989, the design of the car was given the code name Lamborghini P140 was born. A few years later, Bertone's concept car inspired another Italian coachbuilder named ItalDesign to build a new body for the model but with a softer design called the Lamborghini Calà. Yes, Calà was built on the previous Gandini-styled P140 prototype.

Cal Lamborghini (also known as Cal Italdesign) is a concept car designed for Lamborghini by Italdesign. It was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show 1995. It was a fully functional prototype that was never successfully produced. The name comes from the Piedmont dialect in northern Italy and means "look, there!"

Calà was imagined by Italdesign to meet Lamborghini's needs for Jalpa's replacement, which stopped production in 1988 at the request of the then owner of the company, Chrysler. When Chrysler sold Lamborghini to an Indonesian firm, Megatech in 1994😯, Cala's design began to take shape, but when Megatech sold Lamborghini to the Volkswagen Group in 1998, the concept was canceled. Finally, Jalpa is replaced in 2003 by Gallardo that said to use the principles of Calà as inspiration.

It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission that drives the rear wheels, with an aluminum chassis and a handmade carbon-fiber body. Just one Calà was ever made and shown as a concept car at the 1995 Geneva International Motor Show😭, and it’s long since been forgotten by just about everyone.
Its exterior appearance is seen borrowing elements from several other Lamborghini iconic production vehicles, such as the headlamps from Miura and the Countach's widescreen. The highest speed is estimated at 291 kph (181 mph), while the acceleration time of 0–97 kph (0–60 mph) is under 5 seconds. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | AUTOTRADER]

This beautiful car was developed in a joint effort between the Fiat Auto’s R&D arm Elasis, the Alfa Romeo’s Centro Stile, and Franco Sbarro’s famous Espera automotive design. It was also built to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Espera design school.

While its exterior appearance is brought the typical Alfa Romeo front grille for the nose. The car’s overall look and feel were influenced by the iconic Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale which can be said as the modern presentation of the legendary car.

The car looks nice and purposeful squat, those small but voluminous proportions and the butterfly doors whose windows fold into the roof. Described as having a ‘Formula 1 edge’ when new, the chiseled double-decker front diffuser looks to us a bit like the snout of the Boano-designed Alfa Romeo 750 Competizione of the 1955.

But the boys from Lotus should not worry as the Diva never went into the production line. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | ALFA ROMEO | PAULTAN | CLASSICDRIVER]

A scarce Gandini-styled Lambo P140 prototype

In the late 1980s, Automobili Lamborghini SpA. made plans to replace the aging Countach and Jalpa models. While the development of the company's V12-powered flagship model has begun, work is underway to start developing a new entry-level model. The new model design work was once again contracted by renowned Italian designer Marcello Gandini who had collaborated with Lamborghini before.

The Lamborghini P140 is the code name given to a series of prototype cars built by Lamborghini starting in 1987. It was intended as a replacement for the Jalpa that came out but never went into production, despite being close to production-ready due to the fading interest of customers into high-performance cars due to the Gulf Oil Crisis of the 1990s.😭

The wedge-shaped 2-door coupe codenamed P140 designed by Gandini was immediately recognized as a member of the Lamborghini family and powered by a completely new 4.0-liter V10 engine along with an ergonomic dashboard. The Lamborghini P140 is known as the first species of Lambo which is powered by a V10 engine.

According to the raging bull logoed company records, it is known that only 3 units of the P140 prototypes have been built. The first was painted orange and a fully functional prototype, reaching a top speed of 295 kph (183 mph) while on the running test at the Nardò Ring in Italy.
While the second prototype was painted red but only a rolling chassis and never equipped with an engine, and the third one was built in 1991-1992 and painted in white. Lastly, the third car has been crashed during testing but was later returned and is currently on display at the Lamborghini's official museum in Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy.

The three Bugatti’s secret concept cars now revealed

Like most carmakers in general, especially in the early days of the modern automotive industry, Bugatti also developed experimental vehicles and prototypes to explore many possibilities, from future design directions up to expanding the range of their vehicle lines. Most of these efforts are carried out in secret, both from the public or media.
These are 3 Bugatti’s secret concept cars. (Picture from: http://bit.ly/3b3nxJb)
However, occasionally they also share the secret exploration plans that never materialize for many reasons. And now, Bugatti is opening information about several concept cars that they've been worked on in the past that should have been given birth to new production cars but in fact, have not proceeded to the production line. Yes, they were stopped just in the concept or even made it only as a prototype model.

1. Bugatti Veyron Barchetta
The first Bugatti concept that had never been seen before was Bugatti Veyron Barchetta, which was created by the Bugatti's head of design department, Achim Anscheidt in 2008. This gorgeous vehicle creation is made based on the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse but is decorated with new roofless bodywork and windshield like a speedster.

Interestingly, some of the features that appeared on this concept car especially the headlamps features that now are look embedded in the Bugatti Divo which are built in limited numbers and based on the current Chiron.
But Bugatti's top executive reportedly was reluctant to adopt the car model due to similar to the Lamborghini limited edition model that launched at the time. This is understandable because both premium automotive manufacturer Bugatti and Lamborghini are in the same parent company, the Volkswagen Group.

2. Bugatti Atlantic Concept
A few years after the Bugatti Veyron Barchetta was executed, the French manufacturer then envisioned the three best models by designing two new concepts. Where one to be placed under the Bugatti Chiron and the other one to be placed above the hypercar which is focused for record-breaking only.
2015 Bugatti Atlantic Concept. (Picture from: http://bit.ly/2WlqAZ9)
