Levis reborn after more than eighty years being dead

When you hear the name of Levis, maybe you will immediately point to a famous American clothing brand. But besides being used as a clothing brand, the name of Levis has also long been used and known as a motorcycle brand from England.

After more than eighty years being dead, now Levis Motorcycles reborn by showing off their new motorcycle named Levis Motorcycles V6 Café Racer.

Now we look back at its history, Levis Motorcycles was founded by William Butterfield at Stechford, Birmingham UK. At the beginning of its establishment, this manufacturer was only devoted to making the 2-stroke type motorcycle engines which in the end those company continued to grow to become one of the leading motorcycle manufacturers in the UK.

The British manufacturer began production from 1911 to 1941. And in its heyday, the manufacturer had given birth to the 250cc 2-stroke motorcycle which won the Isle of Man TT in the 1920s. And like most other manufacturers at that time, the 2nd World War gave a severe negative impact on this manufacturer and pushed it have to stop the production in 1946.

The Levis brand remained dormant until 2014, when its rights were acquired by David Redshaw, who dreamt of reviving it. In 2017 he met with Phil Bevan, a businessman who had recently bought Connaught Competition Engines, a UK company that made a compact two-liter V10 motor for GT Racing cars.

This engine was built on a modular design that allowed for easy production of V8, V6, V4 and even V2 variants, and Bevan had already been looking for a suitable motorcycle to host it. He promptly bought the brand's rights from Redshaw and together they set up the Levis Motorcycle Company in July 2017, with new headquarters in Swaffham and a clear plan in their minds.

To realize his dream, he hired a designer named Steve Kirk, and began working on a motorcycle inspired by the V10 compact block. And the result is the Levis Motorcycles V6 Café Racer motorcycle figure. This motorcycle component is made of stainless steel and aluminum.

In detail, this motorcycle uses a 1,200cc V6 engine with an estimated power output of 120 hp and 120 lb-ft of torque. In addition, this 33-degree V6 engine has an ignition sequence that can be said to be different, with a sequence of 1-2-3-4-5-6. And according to the maker, by the ignition sequence like that to make the engine very smooth, so it doesn't need a balancer.

The frame is built in-house from steel tubes, featuring a Hossack-type front suspension system and a single shock at the rear. Both shock absorbers are bespoke adjustable units, fabricated especially for Levis' motorcycle by an unnamed English specialist.

Levis also fabricates in-house most parts of the Café Racer, including the fork legs, clamps, headlight assembly, steering, hand controls, brake discs, gearbox casings and wheels – all machined from solid blocks of aluminum. This opens a wide window which Levis intends to take full advantage of, offering customizing options down to the bare essentials, such as the finish of the frame and bodywork panels.

The wheels themselves, presumably tubeless, are based on an uncommon two-piece design, with two halves bound together with hidden bolts and sealed tight with a sealant agent. The semi-solid design was reportedly selected as the best combination of strength and low weight.

The Levis Motorcycles V6 Café Racer was greeted the world automotive enthusiasts for the first time at the 2018 Goodwood Revival in September 2018. While the price offered for this motorcycle has been set at £102,000 (US $133,000) or around Rp.2 billion.
The plan, the British company will also produces the supercharged engines version in a limited number and will be launched in 2020 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its victory at the 1920s Isle of Man TT racing events.

All-new Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 Aero concept

But unfortunately, the engine details are still not given by the manufacturer, so that the observers predict from its physical appearance at the EICMA 2018 states its possibility will be use the same base as the Svartpilen 701 ie. a single cylinder engine capable of producing power up to 75 hp and 72 Nm of torque.

A classic rare 'Mammoth' motorbike at exorbitant prices

The Clymer-Münch 1.177cc TTS 'Mammoth' motorcycle is quite foreign to our ears. But for high-speed motorcycle collectors, this motorcycle has its own story. Yes, these motorcycle was made by the Horex racing technician named Freidl Münch based on the orders of a wealthy Frenchman who was fond of racing named Jean Murit.

To realize Murit's desire, a motorcycle was made by using a four-cylinder air-cooled type engine with overhead-camshaft taken from the NSU TT Sport two-door car (1965-1967) whose standard version was only capable of spewing power of 40 hp later upgraded to 60 hp.

Even the motorbike's speed at the time was more than 190 km/hour. Although in those days most machines could make motorbikes run so fast. But only these 'Mammoth' can sprint from the final gear at a speed of 30 km/hour then immediately able to accelerate up to 177 km/hour.

Those machine is placed and tied to a custom frames inspired by Manx Norton. The weight factor was also be considered by Münch who then used an electron magnesium alloy to be applied to the gearbox cover, rear chain cover, suspension slider to the brakes.

It was believed that at that time the weight was only 196 kg. But the production version has more weight than that. The founder of Elephant Rally and also Das Motorrad journalist named Ernst Leverkus had tried the motorcycle in 1966.

When the production version was launched, it received an overwhelming response and orders flowed from various parts of the world. The production version of this motorcycle made its first appearance at the Cologne Show in September 1966 by using a 1,085 cc 70 hp engine and a top speed of 225 km/hour. While for special orders from the consumers, Mammoth uses a 1.177 cc engine from NSU that is capable of blowing the power up to 104 hp.

The Freidl Münch's motorcycle based on the ideas from Jean Murit, was also seen by the investors such as the founder of Cycle Magazine as well as an American entrepreneur named Floyd Clymer who then sent the motorbike to America, under the name Clymer-Münch 'Mammoth'.

Under the slogan of 'Built up to a standard, not down to a price,' these motor was quite classy at that time due to the price of Mammoth is indeed enough to make a headache for rich motorbike fans in the United States at that time. Yes, this motorcycle is sold at a price of around $3,995 where the BMW R69S was only $1,695.
It is estimated that there are about 500 units of Mammoth motorcycles made up to 1975. Smoked Garage's Futuristic Café Racer

Smoked Garage is an Australian builder who relies on the 2015 Ducati 848 Streetfighter to start working on their futuristic café racer project. And the results are different and unique. Because, their futuristic café racer is equipped with hydraulic-lift tank and seat boggles our minds.

The Smoked Garage Project SG-848X motorcycle was finally realized after 9 months of making process. It looks like a work that has never presented any builders around the world. And as a proof, just look at the indicators embedded in this custom motorcycle bar end.

Then on a triple clamp given the feel of steampunk and made of brass material. In the upper brake component parts of R2D2, and clutch reservoir, with hoses that are like part of the design elements. On the front was like very fused with the dashboard of Motogadget.

Lunatic's Honda CBR250RR Neo Café Racer

Do not know why, when I saw this Honda custom motorcycle on Naikmotor page for the first time, I immediately fell in love with it. Maybe this is called Love at first sight. Yes, the figure of the enchanting custom motorcycle with café racer theme is built from the base of Honda CBR250RR by Lunatic Custom Motorcycle Jakarta for the 'Honda Dream Ride Project 2017'.

According to the builder Yuwono Jati of Lunatic Custom Motorcycle Jakarta, the basic idea in developing the concept of café Racer in the Honda Dream Ride Project 2017 is very different from the café racer concept in general. Inevitably the result of Honda CBR250RR Neo Café Racer this time is a sweet blending between classic and modern concept.

Indeed the builder is very fond of the café racer theme, besides that he wants to make something far different from the original images. The standard view of the CBR250RR is instantly overhauled based on the concepts that he made after long discussions with the Honda Dream Ride Project 2017 mentors.

Yuwono Jati totally changed the body of motorcycle by removing all of the standard fairing. Although impressed classical but the new fairing is quite modern, and he also did not make the fairing one fully set and let the engine form a little exposed.

Electric-powered motorcycle in café racer style

The figure of motorcycle with a retro style seems not only for conventional fuel two-wheeler. Yes, a Canadian electric bicycles manufacturer named Tempus made an innovation by creating a two-wheeled vehicle called CR-T1 with café racer style.

As reported by Autoevolution on Saturday, January 7, 2017, the CR-T1 is presented as a solution for environmentally friendly vehicles and easier for people to meet the transportation needs in urban area as well have a distinctive retro style.

In appearance, the CR-T1 seem has a fuel tank like a conventional motorcycle in general, but this tank not be filled with fuel but loaded with a number of electrical devices. For the rider's seat like a typical café racer style, ie wasp tail shaped.

Its handlebars also made short, aligned with the position of the tank and provides a typical café racer riding style. Then, near the handlebars, there is a unique rounded LED headllight.
