The British supercar you've never heard before

The Unknown This supercars is known developed first by a British auto manufacturer GT Developments in the 1990s and might be included one is rarely recognized to the public. The mentioned car was the Spectre R42 prototype which has has a design resemblance to the legendary Ford GT40 racing car in several parts of its body.
The Spectre R42 is designed by Ray Christopher who poured his design in the 1990s vision inspired by the legendary Ford GT40 racing car. (Picture from: Carswitch)
Why is that, because this car was designed by Ray Christopher who poured his design in the 1990s vision inspired by the GT40. Before he began to dream up his own design in 1991 and planned to be able to sell the cars in October 1993, the auto company he co-founded having built 300-unique re-creation cars.

Besides taking design inspiration from the GT40, it turns out that this car is also powered by a mid-mounted Ford V8 engine featured with a transaxle gearbox. And the underpinnings took the concept of the GT40 monocoque and updates it with an innovative folding aluminum and honeycomb composite construction.

As for the name of the car, the 'R42,' where the letter of 'R,' as you might have guessed, is borrowed from 'Ray,' the designer's first name while the number of '42' refers to the height of the vehicle from the ground to the roof.
The Spectre R42 sat on display at the RPM tittled movie premiere back in 1997. (Picture from: GTPLanet)
As qouted of the Classic&SportsCar, at the beginning, the designer had big ambitions to be used its creation to race at the Le Sarthe circuit and see it going down the Mulsanne Straight.
But then of course, before such goal could be achieved, he had to make a road car. This car is also claimed by the designer to have the best drag coefficient (Cd) in its class of just 0.28.
After the R42's scale model and prototype chassis were ready by the end of 1992, soon its body work began with the aim of the car could be launching at the 1993 London Motor Show. Although the car construction work was successfully completed, due to unfavorable economic conditions plus the high development costs very unfavorable for the GTD's financial condition at the time, so pushed it into receivership in 1994 after only one R42 prototype ever made.
Oddly mounted wheel doesn’t solve the R42’s lack of space, but the powered rack addresses the main criticism of the unassisted prototype. (Picture from: DriveTribe)
Although the company could be survived, but it should be paid by high-cost, as GTD had to sell the R42's rights for $2.5 million to an American company, Spectre Motors Inc. which led by a former GTD sales agent, Anders Hildebrand. He put the R42 into production line quickly, brought in investors and involved Derek Bell as chairman and development consultant under new company named Spectre Supersports Ltd. then launching the ALCO-Spectre racing program by using the later Spectre R42 GTR.
The Spectre R42's underpinnings took the concept of the GT40 monocoque and updates it with an innovative folding aluminum and honeycomb composite construction. (Picture from: TopWorldAuto)
Initially, the manufacturer had planned will make 200 units of the R42 in 3 years. In reality, the company was only able to make 23 units in 3 years, mainly down to the fact that every car needed 2,000 man hours to be completed. Even to support marketing, in 1997 there were two R42s taking roles in an action movie titled 'RPM.' Unfortunately the movie wasn’t very well received which means the car didn’t get the break that was being hoped for.
Again, the manufacturer experienced serious financial problems, so all production plan had set previously up to the R42 racing program at the 24 Hours of Le Mans were hampered and canceled due to lack of funds.😥

And finally in 1998, the R42 left us for good, never to be the modern GT40 as its designer envisioned and following two Ford concept cars that were initially projected as the GT40's successors, such as the GT70 and GT90 which already had entered the museum without ever being produced.😞 And now, if you want to see the Spectre R42 speeding down the streets, so you can watch it in the mentioned above movie. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | DRIVETRIBE | CLASSIC&SPORTSCAR | CARSWITCH | WIKIPEDIA | GTPLANET | TOPWORLDAUTO ]

Bizzarrini's beautiful Ghepardo concept

The Shining Path In the world's automotive, Giotto Bizzarini is known as one of the famous automotive design and engineering practitioners. This can be seen in his very long professional career portfolio ranging of several world automotive brands such as Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Iso, Lamborghini up to establishing his own automotive brand based in Livorno, called Bizzarrini SpA.

It seems that as an entrepreneur, Giotto Bizzarrini lacked talent so the company of his owned had to work hard, rise and fall to just keep going in the tough business world and eventually had to give up when the company was declared bankrupt in 1969. Since then, several attempts have been made to revive the marque.

After a long absence of activity, it seems that the automotive world still wants to continue to witness the maestro's creations. This was seen for the first time at the 2005 Geneva Motorshow, when Bizzarrini's marque re-appeared in the long list of exhibitors. Instead the car's name, actually that's only a 'revived' marque that has nothing to do with the original one.
2006 Bizzarrini Ghepardo GTS Concept by VGM Motors is powered by a BMW's Mecachrome V8 engine which has been modified in such a way becomes 4.1 liters so then it capable of spraying power up to 550 hp @ 10,000 rpm. (Picture from: Drive2.ru)
The mentioned car was the Bizzarrini Ghepardo GTS Concept designed and built by an Italian newly formed company at that time VGM Motors. That's a striking sports coupe built as the Bizzarrini legendary sports car derivatives and displayed in Geneva to show that the sports car manufacturer returned and to ensure all of the expo visitors know, then the legendary Bizzarrini 5300 GT Strada shown next to the Ghepardo Concept.

It can be said that the Bizzarrini GTS 4.1 V is a perfect blend between the most sophisticated technology at the time with the best Italian style, and wisely designed to make you feel the pleasure of driving a very exclusive and sophisticated design car with no need to feel dominated by it. Although it has a number of design signals that look similar in between the two, but if viewed from the sizes, the Ghepardo Concept is slightly larger than the 5300 GT.
2006 Bizzarrini Ghepardo GTS Concept by VGM Motors is designed and built with such sophisticated interiors to impeccably crafted furnishings. (Picture from: Drive2.ru)
It was also said that the engineers managed to maintain weight to 1,100 kg thanks to the use of aluminum materials and other exotic materials extensively. Instead, the mainframe for production-version is not mentioned, but development work seems to be ongoing at the time.

One of the most typical features of the original Bizzarrini 5300 GT adopted by the Ghepardo Concept is its powertrain location which is very far behind the chassis so that the coil must be accessed through the panel in the dashboard. But now the machine used is not a Chevy V8 but a BMW's Mecachrome V8 engine which has been modified in such a way that it becomes 4.1 liters so then it capable of spraying power up to 550 hp at 10,000 rpm.
2006 Bizzarrini Ghepardo GTS Concept by VGM Motors is designed and built with such sophisticated interiors to impeccably crafted furnishings. (Picture from: Drive2.ru)
All of these power is then transferred to the rear wheels through a six-speed transaxle which is also made of aluminum. The Alpina-developed V8 engine is claimed to be able to make the acceleration from 0 to100 kph in less than four seconds and reach a top speed of 360 kph. At that time the VGM Motors' representatives indicated the Ghepardo production would begin in early 2006, but after the Geneva Auto Show finished, the Italian company was not heard for more than a year.
2006 Bizzarrini Ghepardo GTS Concept by VGM Motors has managed to maintain weight to 1,100 kg thanks to the use of aluminum materials and other exotic materials extensively. (Picture from: Drive2.ru)
Only at the 2006 Villa D'Este Concours D'Elegance show, it was seen that a ferocious sounded Bizzarrini Ghepardo Concept came back passing through the Villa Erba park which was followed by the 5300 GT. It's hard to say whether it was intentional, but the car didn't seem to be able to maneuver without tearing up the grass, so it's clear that those silence years is used to do some big modifications on the Ghepardo. This sports car last appeared in public at the 2018 Genena Motor Show along with its elder siblings, the Bizzarrini Manta Concept dan Bizzarrini P538.
And now Bizzarrini under new management after being revived almost a year ago (November, 2020) by the London-based luxury car dealer group Pegasus Brands and a team led by former CEO of Aston MartinDr. Ulrich Bez, so then the car had approved as one of the models produced by the Italian marque.

And for those of you who are interested in having the Ghepardo GTS, maybe you should keep that desire deep inside. As quoted of the automaker official site, that recently the marque produced in a limited number of the Bizzarrini 5300 GT 'Revival Series' sports car (only 24 units) called the Bizzarrini 5300 GT Revival Corsa. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | BIZZARRINI | TOP SPEED | AUTOCAR | DRIVE2.RU | GTPLANET | PISTOHEADS | EN.WHEELSAGE.ORG | DREAMSTIME | NEWATLAS ]

It is not a plane, just unique car of the 1960s

Beat of The Day Indeed, in the 1950s to the late 1960s were the times when automotive enthusiasts in the world, especially those in America and Europe, were presented so many the sightings of future concept vehicles at many automotive exhibition events. So it is not surprising when at that time they repeatedly have to gasp in surprise or frowned while saying out loud or whispering, 'What is this/that?' or 'Could it be run like an ordinary car?'
Currently, the 1960 Di Dia 150 sat on display at the National Museum of Transportation in St. Louis, Minnesota after donated by its owner Bobby Darrin in 1970. (Picture from: Wikipedia)
So, on this occasion, we will discuss a unique car that was ever presented in the 1950s to 1960s. How unique is the car? It is very unique, and the car is also never seen by the public for a long time, so it is not surprising then some of you might be never ever seen before or even not known the car existence.
The 1960 Di Dia 150, a unique-shaped dream car built by Andrew 'Andy' Di Dia for seven years long time and cost of $93,647. (Picture from: ConceptCarz)
This is a dream car named Di Dia 150 on which has always been exotically looked since it was first launched in 1960 until now. It is clear that this unique unconventional car design was inspired by the world of aviation (it could be looking at the large double-tail fin and some features inside the cabin).
The 1960 Di Dia 150 is originally powered by a 365 cubic-inch Cadillac engine, later replaced by a 427 cubic-inch high-performance Ford engine. (Picture from: ConceptCarz)
As quoted from Conceptcarz, the unique-shaped car that is over-done in every detail and in every respect is made by a clothing designer named Andrew 'Andy' Di Dia in seven years long time (ranging of 1953 to 1960) with an overall cost of $93,647 (priceless if estimated today value).😁
Inside the cabin of the Di Dia 150 has squared steering wheel resembling a superellipse and there's a row of large levers like those of an airplane to control the air conditioning, heating and defroster on the dashboard. (Picture from: ConceptCarz)
This dream car is featured in a metallic red color that is made of 30 layers of paint with real diamonds sparkled. While the body is handmade of soft aluminum and the frame of tubular aluminum. And on the back there is a large tail fin which is usually attached to the bottom of a boat or on the airplane's fuselage. Then there are hidden headlights and tail lights that swivel as the car is turning.

Then inside the cabin there are four cozy seats, where each have their own ashtray, cigarette lighter, and radio speakers. Then on the dashboard there is a row of large levers like those of an airplane to control the air conditioning, heating and defroster.

The unique-shaped car has also a glass cockpit in back, a squared steering wheel resembling a superellipse. While it's sat on a 125-inch wheelbase and initially powered by a 365 cubic-inch Cadillac engine, later swapped by a 427 cubic-inch high-performance Ford engine.
It's known only one car was ever built, and later was sold to the singer and actor Bobby Darin. After publicity and film use, he donated his dream car to the Museum of Transportation (now known as the National Museum of Transportation) in St. Louis, Missouri in 1970. *** [EKA [17102020] | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | CONCEPTCARZ | WIKIPEDIA]

One of world’s most-coveted Ferrari-built racecars

Beloved ONES The Dino has become one of the most coveted, desirable and significant cars built by Ferrari throughout the builder’s history. Named after Enzo Ferrari’s son who passed in 1956, the Dino is unique in its design, history and inspiration alike.
1966 Ferrari Dino 206 Spyder Coupe was announced in 1965 as a contender for the 1966 2-litre sports car class. (Picture from: Driving.ca)
The car when racing in its heyday was top of its class, and today it has been recognized as one of the most beautiful cars Ferrari or any other company has built. The Ferrari Dino 206 Spyder Coupe was announced in 1965 as a contender for the 1966 2-litre sports car class. It followed the 166 P prototype of 1955, with its V6 engine enlarged to 1987cc. Ferrari SEFAC officially raced the Dino against the factory and privateer Porsche 906s.
1966 Ferrari Dino 206 Spyder Coupe was powered by what could have been one half the P3’s 4-litre V12. (Picture from: VintageMotorSports.ca)
The 206 was powered by what could have been one half the P3’s 4-litre V12. In the center of the car was a bespoke Dino V6 engine that reached peak power at 9000 rpm. Initially, Ferrari planned to produce 50 examples of this car for homologation purposes, but industrial unrest in Italy with resulting labor problems halted production of these cars.
1966 Ferrari Dino 206 Spyder Coupe planned to produce 50 examples, but due to civil unrest in Italy and labour problems, only 18 of these beautiful race cars were ever completed. (Picture from: Driving.ca)
Various versions of the 2-liter engine were used. The initial V6 was fitted with three Weber 40 DCN 2 carburetors which were replaced on the later models by Lucas fuel injection. Cylinder heads varied with either 12, 18 or 24 valves having single or dual spark.

Along with a large variety of engines, the bodywork on the 206 varied from car to car. Most of the 206’s came as a spider version with the roof section completely removed. Piero Drogo was responsible for the design of body which was crafted by his company, Carrozzeria Sports Cars.
Only 18 206s were completed with limited racing success. Much of the design cues were carried through to the Dino 206 road car, but it lacked much of the race-bred design elements found in the 206 Spyder Coupe. *** [EKA [29112020] | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | SUPERCARS | FINECARS | BARCHETTA | DRIVING ]

Unique and rare of French-made Matra M530

Weird ONES France has always been known as one of the pioneering countries of the automotive industry since from the mid-20th century. And the country consistently remains the third largest automaker in the world. This great nation is the home of well-known brands like Citroen, Peugeot, Renault, and some other great brands like Bugatti.
1967 Matra Sports M530A is built on a steel frame with a polyester body and also features a center machined layout and designed by the former Simca designer named Philippe Guédon. (Picture from: Otoblitz)
And this is one of the French's forgotten car manufacturers, namely Matra. In the 1960s this French manufacturer had success with the Matra Djet and the following car called the Matra 530 (or M530) is intended as its successor. It was a sports car built by the French's Matra engineering team, which was created for ordinary consumers who wanted a sports car, but didn't really like racing.
1967 Matra Sports M530A which was called by Jean-Luc Lagardere (CEO of Matra) in 1965 as 'voiture des copains' or  'car for friends', and intended as the successor to the Matra Djet. (Picture from: Otoblitz)
In 1965, CEO of Matra at the time, Jean-Luc Lagardere decided to develop a more adaptive sports car for non-racing consumers, which he called as 'voiture des copains' or 'car for friends', and intended as the successor to the Matra Djet. And as the result is the Matra M530 designed by the former Simca designer named Philippe Guédon.
1970 Matra Sports M530LX has received a Michelotti's special touches with targa roof. (Picture from: Otoblitz)
Like its predecessors, the M530 is built on a steel frame with a polyester body and also features a center machined layout. However, to accommodate the new 2 + 2 configuration, and the most adequate engine and boot layouts, various machine options were then tried.

In the end, a 1,699 cc V4 high compression engine from the Ford Taunus was used, which was mated to the Ford Taunus 15M TS' 4-speed manual gearbox. This combination turns out to be quite compact and fits snugly between the rear seat and the boot, and while from the engine it can make the car to a top speed of 109 mph or 175 kph.
1970 Matra Sports M530LX has the slightly redesigned dashboard to give more knee space, and repositioning the ignition key. (Picture from: Otoblitz)
The first Matra 530 model (labeled Matra Sports M530A) was introduced to the public on March 7, 1967 at the 1967 Geneva Motor Show. And after a month in production, then the Matra 530 added minor modifications including gives a chrome layer on the bumper, the dashboard a slightly redesigned to give more knee space, and repositioning the ignition key to facilitate access into the production process.
1970 Matra Sports M530LX body design which is said to look very avant-garde. (Picture from: Otoblitz)
The most striking features of the Matra 530 are the targa roof design, pop-up lights and others, especially the body design which is said to look very avant-garde. Even on the early Matra 530 models, the engine bay can be accessed by opening the acrylic-made rear glass.
In 1970, the Matra Sports M530LX model was introduced and appeared with a minor redesign of the Matra M530A which has received a Michelotti's special touches. The most notable change of this model is the rear (now made of the real glass that opens with a spring like the hatchback model) and the front bumper has a slightly update.
1971 Matra Sports M530SX does not have a targa roof and pop-up headlights; instead, there are four fixed headlights mounted on the front. (Picture from: Otoblitz)
A year later, in October 1971 to be precise, the French auto manufacturer introduced a low-cost version of the Matra 530 called the Matra Sports M530SX. The 530SX does not have a targa roof and pop-up headlights; instead, there are four fixed headlights mounted on the front. The only color options available are orange and white, and the model also feature a black bumper instead of a chrome bumper like the LX model.

Eventually all production of the Matra 530 model was ceased in 1973, with a total of 9,609 units of cars (consisting of 2,062 units of 530A, 4,731 units of 530LX and 1,146 units of 530SX) that had rolled out of their factory production lines in France. *** [EKA [31012021] | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | ]

The cutie Pura was born far ahead of its time

Weird ONES In the automotive world, the Giovanni Michelloti's name is very famous as one of the world's greatest car designers. Many of his automotive works have graced various automotive brands in the world ranging from sports cars to trucks. In our beloved Trussty sites, on several occasions we have also discussed the automotive works by the Italian' maestro.
1988 Michelotti Pura is a two seater road going sportscar based on the world championship winning Albatech group C2 race car, built by the Albatech for Michelotti Studio under direction of Edgardo Michelotti designed by Tateo Uchida. (Picture from: Classic and Recreation Sportscars)
As we all knew, the maestro passed away in January 23, 1980. Although the unique car would be discussed was designed and built after the maestro passed away. However it is only propered if the car said to be one of the works ever had created under the great name of Giovanni Michelotti in the late 1980s, due to it's made by the Michelotti Studio, his founded studio of the 1959.
1988 Michelotti Pura is made of the fiber and composite materials and has a glass canopy could slide back or even could also be removed of the vehicle. (Picture from: Classic and Recreation Sportscars)
And the unique car in question was named Michelotti Pura (an Italian word means 'Pure') is the only example of a two seater road going sportscar based on the world championship winning Albatech group C2 race car or effectively, a F3 road car. The car built by Michelotti Studio under the direction of Edgardo Michelotti (son of Giovanni Michelotti), designed by a Japanese designer named Tateo Uchida.

The two seater Pura sports car weighed only 1,4313 lbs and powered with a mid-mounted Alfa Romeo 4-cylinder 1.8-liter turbocharged engine coupled with a ZF 5-speed transmission. The light weight was made possible by the vehicle’s body made of the fiber and composite materials. The glass canopy could slide back or even could also be removed of the vehicle. The intenor consisted of a standard instrument panel with analog instruments.
1988 Michelotti Pura prototype is tested and developed in the Fiat wind tunnel, the aerodynamics of the Pura were very ahead of its time for a road car. (Picture from: Classic and Recreation Sportscars)
The car project done by the Albatech (the Mario Colucci & Georgio Striano's company), and it is built in carbon fibre and aluminium (carbon-fibre composite chassis) with ground effect body styling offering a power to weight ratio of 4,2-3kgs per hp. With the Colucci and Stirano's input, so the Pura has a real racing pedigree. The prototype is tested and developed in the Fiat wind tunnel, the aerodynamics of the Pura were very ahead of its time for a road car.
The prototype known as the only one model ever made and also has many advanced aerodynamic engineering details that predate of the Lotus Elise or Renault Spider and the McLaren's use of carbon fibre composite in 1992. No wonder, if In general the Pura sports car prototype could be said to be an automotive creation that was born far ahead of its time.

The Pura prototype is a very small compact vehicle and is reminiscent of the Etceterini cars of the 1940's to 1960's is displayed for the first time at the 1988 Torino Motor Show. Currently, the sports car owned by Tony Calo since 1997 and registered for the road-used in the UK. *** [EKA [26042021] | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | CARSTYLING.RU | MICHELOTTIPURA | FACEBOOK | EVERYBODYWIKI ]

People never knew this concept car existed during the early days of development

Dream Car As we all know so far, usually the automotive manufacturers' intent in making a concept car is to enchant the public with a show car full of various advanced features of the future but sometimes it never becomes a reality. However, what is mentioned above does not apply to a unique concept car called the Mercury D-528 and is made by one of the well-known American automotive manufacturers, Ford Motor Company.
1955 Mercury D-528 Concept car was made only for internal inspection, or it could be said to be made to develop new technological advances that were done in silence. (Picture from: Conceptcapictures)
From the very beginning, Ford's concept car of the 1950s was made only for internal inspection, or it could be said to be made to develop new technological advances that were done in silence. So it's no wonder if people outside of the company's R&D never knew this concept car existed during the early days of development.
When the duty time of 1955 Mercury D-528 was over, it went to Hollywood and became famous in public as a movie and television star. (Picture from: Curbside.tv)
Well, it all started in the 1950s, when Ford allowed its engineering department to develop their own concept vehicles, one of which was the D-524 concept car. As quoted from conceptcarpictures.org, the exterior of the D-524 was designed by Gil Spear and the interior by John Samsen. Design studies for the car began in late 1953 or early 1954, immediately after Spear, anxious for a break from designing 3/8 sized concept cars, left the Advanced Design Studio to take over as head of the International and Canadian Studio.

Although initially this unique car was never intended as a show car, but rather, was meant to be a "research project on wheels," where a line of advanced features at the time such as air conditioning, aircraft-type wrap-over doors with motor-driven panels that opened when the door in use to allow for easy entry/exit, lighting, front frame crash absorption.

Due to the air conditioning system bulky enough, so it almost devour most of the car's luggages capacity. For freed up space, so then unique twin humps were created and placed over the rear wheels, with one hiding the spare tire and the other containing the gas tank. This concept initially known as the first fiberglass-bodied Ford’s first car without "A" pillars and also is designed has four headlights even though later swapped for two.

But what is unique is that the D-528 concept car later became famous in public as a movie and television star, after it is retired as an engineering testbed. Well, its new life as a star in Hollywood started when King of the Kustomizers George Barris put it in a number of productions. First appearing as Beldone in Jerry Lewis's movie titled The Patsy, then roled as the futuristic police car from 2010 in the 1964 science fiction series titled The Outer Limits. Later still, it appeared in background shots of Back to The Future 3 in 1990.
The D-528 concept car has been restored right down to the painted fiberglass bumper and now it is on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, but its gleaming copper metallic paint was blocked by a fine layer of dust awaits its next turn in the spotlight.
