Dangerous Loopholes of Samsung Galaxy

A dangerous bug was found in the Samsung Galaxy line of mobile phones. Cracks can deleted all data on the phone with just one click.

Cracks were discovered by researchers from the Technical University Berlin, Ravi Borgaonkar. He showed the results of his research at an Internet security conference in Argentina.

Borgaonkar explained that the TouchWiz interface used on the Samsung Galaxy variant has holes that can be exploited by hackers HTML code.
Samsung Galaxy Android. (Picture from: http://www.engadget.com/)
The way it works is very simple. Hackers only need to insert the HTML code into a web page, and while Samsung Galaxy users accessing the site, as it is also a code for the full wipe or reset is active.

When examined the code does contain a code to reset the Samsung Galaxy, and the hackers simply enter the code in a web page to activate the code reset automatically.
Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy S II and Galaxy S. (Picture from: http://www.engadget.com/)
As quoted from Slashgear, Wednesday (09/23/2012), the code can erase all data on the Galaxy S II, Galaxy S Advance, Galaxy Beam, Galaxy Ace. However, when the authors tried, the code can also be used on the Galaxy S III.

Mr. Borgaonkar, who reportedly wondered aloud what Samsung’s engineers were smoking when they created the vulnerable system, demonstrates how it works in the video below.
Viewers may need headphones to hear Mr. Borgaonkar clearly, but the shocked audience reaction at 2:10, when he uses a link from a tweet to demonstrate how quickly a malicious web page can reset the phone, is unmistakable.

Well, for those users who are curious about the Galaxy series, do not try typing that shortcut. Because it will reset your phone without any confirmation (option 'yes' or 'no') before! Beware...!!!! *** [SLASHGEAR | BETABEAT | DIGITAL SPY]

QR Memories, Barcodes for Headstones

Barcode technology is usually used in supermarkets to determine the type and price of the goods to be purchased. However, the current barcode technology is not only used in the supermarket, at the funeral QR technology also can be applied.

The modern cemetery Chester Pearce, in Poole, Dorset, England applying barcode technology on a headstone. Barcode is located at the corner of the bottom of the headstone.

As quoted from Daily Mail, the application of technology to the headstone was intended to ascertain data on the deceased. Family left behind do not bother to write the date of birth or date of death on the headstone. All the detailed information on the profile of the deceased can be seen simply by scanning using a smartphone.

The barcode technology is called a QR memories. Not only the profiles, the family can also see a collection of photos and video of the deceased, in his lifetime. But of course the family are updating this information.

The Chester Pearce funeral director, Stephen Nimmo says the idea of using these technologies is to provide services that can be used to help those left behind. Families do not need to wonder about who is buried there. By using a QR code they can easily find out all he wanted to know.

Even so, of course, required additional charges are not cheap to get these advanced features. Users are charged 300 pounds (U.S. $ 484 or Rp. 4.6 million) for the installation of QR code and additional cost 95 pounds (U.S. $ 147 or Rp. 1.4 million) to hire a website hosting. *** [GI | DAILY MAIL | PIKIRAN RAKYAT 13092012]

Maternal Genes Found in Mice

Maternal feelings shown holding her son apparently formed by a gene. Researchers from Rockefeller University in New York, USA, have discovered the existence of genes that are responsible for feelings of maternal rats.
Mouse in a laboratory. (Picture from: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/)
They found that mice engineered to suppress the expression "maternal gene" spend a little time to lick, feeding, and cleaning up their child. These conditions contrast with the rats from the control group who care for her child.

"There is a single gene responsible for motivating the parent to protect, feed, and raise their children," said study leader, Ana Ribiero, in findings published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences on Wednesday September 19, 2012.

Previous research shows that there are regions in the rat brain called the medial preoptic, in charge of controlling aggression, sexual acceptance and care by the parent. However, what about the chemical mechanisms that affect the behavior, it is yet unclear.

Ribiero says, citing previous research, the nerve cells respond to estrogen, a female sex hormone-containing receptor alpha and estrogen in high levels. These chemicals are linked to the behavior of rat maternal care and sexual behavior.

"We lowered the level of the receptor in the medial preoptic female rats to examine the response of those without it," he said, as quoted by the Telegraph. The research team conducted experiments based on this fact.

As a result, mice with low levels of receptors in the brain to spend less time caring for their children. However, it did not affect the aggressiveness.

According Ribiero, manipulation of specific genes in specific nerve cell groups can drastically alter the expression of important biological behavior. *** [TELEGRAPH | MAHARDIKA SATRIA HADI | KORAN TEMPO 4002]

Malaria spreads to the North Pole

Researchers at SF State have discovered
malaria in birds in Alaska, including the
Common Redpoll, above.. (Picture
from: http://www.sciencedaily.com/)
Malaria is no longer recognized as endemic tropical and subtropical regions. The disease is spread by mosquitoes is also found in birds in Alaska, the U.S. state that is located near the north pole. "Global climate change is encouraging malaria farther north," the alert to a study published in the journal PLoS ONE, issue of September 20, 2012.

The spread of malaria near the northern end of the earth potentially devastating arctic bird species that have never come across this disease. "These findings could help scientists understand the effects of climate change on the spread of human malaria caused by parasites of the same," said Ravinder Sehgal, a professor from San Francisco State University who was involved in the study.

The researchers examined blood samples collected from poultry four locations based on different latitudes in Alaska, the Anchorage (Alaska's largest city) as points south, Denali and Fairbanks as the mid-point, and a point north of Coldfoot. Sampling point distance from north to south stretches as far as 600 miles. Birds infected with malaria in Anchorage and Fairbanks.

The study them equipped with satellite images and other data to predict environmental changes due to global warming. Locations where the malaria parasite is able to survive in the future is also mapped. They found that in 2080 the disease will spread to the north Coldfoot and continue north. "Currently there is no avian malaria in areas above 64 degrees north latitude. However, in the future, with global warming, it likely would have changed," said Sehgal.

The researchers are still not sure how malaria spreads in Alaska. They are currently still collecting additional data to determine the species of mosquitoes that transmit the Plasmodium parasite that causes malaria.

Sehgal said the spread of malaria to the northern part of the earth is quite alarming. Therefore, many living species in the region that have not been exposed to malaria and is likely vulnerable to the deadly disease. *** [XINHUA | SCIENCEDAILY | MAHARDIKA SATRIA HADI | KORAN TEMPO 4002]

Originally designated the "Mobile Launcher", the MLP was designed as part of NASA's strategy for vertical assembly and transport of space vehicles. Vertical assembly allows the preparation of the spacecraft in a ready-for-launch position, and avoids the additional step of lifting or craning a horizontally-assembled vehicle onto the launchpad (as the engineers of the Soviet space program chose to do).

The Mobile Launcher Platform was set atop six legs inside the massive Vehicle Assembly building. The Solid Rocket Boosters were mounted on top of the MLP. The External Tank was then lowered between the two boosters and attached to them. After that, the orbiter was lowered into position and attached to the External Tank. The Crawler-Transporter then carried the combined platform and vehicle to the launch site, and deposited them there together. Once the launch was completed, the crawler-transporter retrieved the empty MLP from the pad to be readied for its next use.

The Reason People are Unhappy at Work

Do not rush to blame the boss when you feel stressed and anxious in the office. A research conducted by Timothy Judge, a professor of management at the University of Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business at Indiana, USA, found that health problems, satisfaction, and high stress due to work pressure strongly influenced by genes.

Judge studied nearly 600 identical and fraternal twins, who both grew up in a family and grew apart. He discovered that grew up in the same neighborhood almost no effect on personality, stress, and health. In contrast, genes that apparently held four times more important than the environment.

He gave the example of two employees in the same business can report different levels of stress. But that does not mean that an employee work more stressful. "Our study shows that there are very strong hereditary factors on work stress and pressure that it generates," said Judge. "That means the influence of environmental conditions on the stress experienced by employees is far less than the individual's genetic code."

Research published in the journal Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes showed that people who try to relieve the stress in your life Do not think of changing jobs to overcome the problem. Unless, they can receive their own tendency to stress. Judge says this does not mean workers should not be trying to avoid a stressful job.

"We also should not assume that we are a blank slate, so too optimistic about the effect of work environment on the level of stress," he said. "It has more to do with what is in us than what we encountered outside the workplace." *** [LIVESCIENCE | KORAN TEMPO 4000]
