The new and most beautiful crayfish in the world

Freshwater crayfish of Indonesia declared a new species and one of the prettiest in the world. Freshwater crayfish in fact it was already a commodity trade since last 10 years. Scientists learned that the crayfish was a new species when doing taxonomy research some time ago.

Christian Lukhaup of Hinterweidenthal, Germany, first realized the uniqueness of crayfish from Indonesia when he seen his friend photo results. Some time later, he began to see crayfish in the photo at the pet store. Lukhaup initially did not know the origin of the crayfish because when asked traders, they did not know or deliberately concealed.

"Doing research is like investigating a criminal case," he said as quoted of New Scientist on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Lukhaup then conduct a preliminary analysis of the type of crayfish. He knew that the beautiful creature that is a member of the genus Cherax. Then he asked the suppliers, he finally got the information that the crayfish in the photos comes from West Papua or the Indonesian part of New Guinea.

Here are several pictures of these beautiful crayfish. (All pictures taken from: BorePanda)

Soon, Lukhaup go to the Bird's Head region of Papua. He asked local residents about the crayfish that are heavily traded and explore the local waters. In Hoa Creek, Teminabuan, Papua Bird's Head, he managed to collect the crayfish. He compared the number of other Cherax species, including Cherax boesemani, which is morphologically very similar to this new type of crayfish.

It was revealed that based on size, color patterns and characteristics of the claws, the crayfish is a new species. Based on the publication in the Zootaxa journal on May 4, 2015, the new crayfish was different with Cherax boesemani because it has a smaller size (about 12 cm) and body color as well as the dominant blue at its claws.

Lukhaup named the crayfish as 'Cherax Pulcher'. According to him "Pulcher" is a Latin word which means beautiful. "I think this is one of the most beautiful crayfish," said Lukhaup. Unfortunately, these beautiful creatures that continues to struggle with the amount of trading activity as ornamental animals. The human population in Papua increased. Likewise, pollution and contamination. It threatens the survival of these beautiful crayfish.
Zachary Loughman from Liberty University in West Virginia said, (so far) the kind found only in one place. "Maybe it's got a kind of wide range of habitats or perhaps only in a stream of water. If there is anything in the water, these creatures will be destroyed," he said.

This crayfish is one of the most endangered species in the world. Many people pay attention to increasing threats to tigers, orangutans and rhinos, but not for crayfish. Perhaps it is time for us to start paying attention to the survival of these beautiful creatures habitat. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | NEWSCIENTIST | BOREDPANDA]

Audi TT Clubsport Turbo Concept revealed

Recently Audi has revealed its latest concept car named 'Audi TT Clubsport Turbo Concept', so far only a concept car and there is no information when it will be mass produced, as reported by Slashgear on May 8, 2015.

Ingolstadt-based car manufacturers was release a video of Audi TT Clubsport concept at the car's premiere in Worthersee 2015. In the video shown the Audi TT Clubsport turbo concept comes with gray color scheme being ridden on asphalt and claimed has an output power of 600 hp.

This car rely on a 2.5L 5-cylinder biturbo engine that produces soft sound. Normally, turbochargers are powered by exhaust gases from the engine itself. That can deliver a potent thrust once the powertrain has spooled up to a certain point, but below that threshold there's a wait for the peak power to kick in.

The TT clubsport turbo's electric compressor fills that wait. Powered by a dedicated 48‑volt electrical sub-system using a li-ion battery in the trunk, it spins up almost instantaneously when the driver stamps on the gas pedal.

As a result, Audi has been able to tune the regular turbocharger more to the engine speeds it's most effective at, and so altogether you get almost 480 lb-ft of torque across 3,000 to 7,000 rpm. The purpose of the use of e-turbo to boost power at low rpm without the traditional turbo lag. When using normal turbo, can gush the speed of 0-60 mph in just 3 seconds.
Technically, the TT clubsport turbo is a concept, designed to show off the potential of the e-turbo. Practically, though, Audi says it's "technology close to production readiness," which does leave us hopeful that there could be a niche for a very extreme TT in the line-up sometime soon.. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | SLASHGEAR]

'Spider rain' phenomenon explained

Thousands of small spiders rained down on the Southern Tablelands, Australia. The houses of citizens not only met the creatures that can make the skin crawl, but also covered the net of the arachnid animal.

The incident is an example of a phenomenon called 'spider rain' or 'angel hair' - which refers to a silk-like threads were left behind. Ian Watson, a resident described the strange weather that houses the location of his home when the incident occurred in the Facebook page. Starting cloudy.
Cloudy with a Chance of Arachnids? 'Spider Rain' Explained. (Picture from: http://bit.ly/1HrMZHv)
"Has anyone experienced 'angel hair' or millions of spiders falling from the sky today? My house is about 10 minutes from the city, and from here we can see hundreds of little spiders last fall floating in the net. My house is covered by the nest. Someone, please contact scientists!, "writes Watson in the Facebook's Goulburn Community Forum page.

Rick Vetter, retired spider expert from the University of California, Riverside, said Watson and his neighbors may witness a form of transport spiders called 'ballooning'.

"Balloning not unusual behavior among spiders," he said as quoted by LiveScience on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. "They climb to high altitudes and exposes the buttocks into the air, releasing the net. Then take off," he said , "It happens all around us all the time. We just do not realize it."

Spiders do like to fly. Before removing the net and drifted thousands of kilometers, the animal check weather conditions as well as human pilots before flying a plane. However, why the spider fly simultaneously to cause a rain-like phenomenon? Todd Blackledge, professor of biology at the University of Akron, Ohio said, that is an unusual view of the millions of spiders to fly at the same time.

He added, the spider rain may occur when a group of spiders ready to balloning, but hampered weather factors, for example. "So when the weather turns to the right conditions do balloning, they do it simultaneously," says Blackledge told LiveScience.

Goulburn residents and surrounding area were panic when the small spider falling from the sky. However, both Blackledge and Vetter said, the animals were harmless to humans.

"There are a number of small-sized species, venomous, and can be harmful to humans. However, the spider that immature still too small to have a bite force," says Blackledge.

However, large numbers of spiders could damage the plants, cover the leaves with a net so do not get enough light, "says Vetter.

Watson said the small spider can be caught in the hair on the human face. "There's no way out of the house without the escape of cobwebs," he said. "Included in my beard."
Not only spiders, other animals are also falling from the sky. One of them, a toad. It's a fact: the frog was showered Odzaci in Serbia in 2005. Also there is a rain of fish in the area of barren Lajamanu, Australia in 2010. Also the small frog rain in Nanao and Hakusan in Japan in 2009. However, the exact cause of the incident is unknown.

Initially suspected that the act of birds. Meanwhile, the scientists are skeptical about the animal rain. However, there is one simple explanation by French physicist in the 19th century: that the strong winds lifted and then dropped the small animals that.

A slightly more complex theories involving the 'whirlwind' - a tornado that crossed the pond or lake, sucking water animals. The fish can be drawn by the vortex and dropped anywhere pickaxe running out of power. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | LIVESCIENCE]

In this place, lightning occurs millions of times a year

We may only see the lightning during the rainy season. However, if you live in a region in Venezuela, where the Catatumbo River meets with the Lake Maracaibo, we will be able to see lightning almost every day.

In these places, there is an amazing natural phenomenon dubbed the "storm of all time" or Relampago del Catatumbo. By the storm, lightning occurs far more frequently than in other areas.
The Catatumbo lightning occurs over and around Lake Maracaibo. (Picture from: http://bit.ly/1qkssqn)
According to scientists, there lightning occurred during 160 nights of the year up to 10 hours overnight. Per hour, there are approximately 230 lightning that occurred. Thus, in a year there are 1.2 million lightning.

Lightning or flashes of light that are so bright that could be seen from a distance of about 400 kilometers. In the past, sailors in the Caribbean use lightning as the navigation help.

Unique, lightning in the Venezuelan territory has a varied color, ranging red to orange and blue to purple. The color variations depends on the amount of dust that contained in the atmosphere.

In the past, people thought that lightning in the region is also unique in that it does not produce thunder or roar. However, the assumption was wrong. Lightning occurs on the territory of 50-100 km from Lake Maracaibo. The thunder difficult to hear if the distance of lightning sources over 25 kilometers.

Catatumbo's lightning also gave an inspiration for literary works. A Spanish poet Lope de La Vega wrote a poem entitled "The Dragontea" in 1597, that describing Sir Francis Drake's efforts to passing through Lake Maracaibo in 1595 but thwarted by lightning.

Although it has been known for a long time, until now scientists have not been able to solve the cause of the Catatumbo lightning. Yukpa people, indigenous people on the border of Colombia and Venezuela, said that the Catatumbo lightning caused by the fireflies which entered the ancestral spirits.

A number of scientists who visit the Catatumbo region to decipher the mechanisms behind this special lightning. Melchor Bravo Centeno said that the lightning may be caused by a closed wind circulation occurring in the region.

Unique topographic of the Catatumbo region, where there are two mountain walls that limit the three sides of the Lake Maracaibo region. During summer, moist air flows from the Caribbean to Maracaibo from the side that is not restricted by a mountain.

Air was then met with the cooler air of the Andes mountains and pushed upwards. Water vapor and began condensed, forming clouds that then release electricity and generate lightning. The whole process was not separated from the water cycle in Lake Maracaibo. The lake's water evaporated due to the sunlight heat of equatorial region. Then the water vapor becomes the storm fuel.

Andrew Zavrotsky, a Venezuelan scientist who visit Catatumbo several times. He found three places as the center of lightning, ie at the swamp of Juan Manuel de Aguas National Park, Claras Aguas Negras, and a location in the west of the lake.

Zavrotsky also revealed that the uranium found in rocks in the Catatumbo region may contribute to the occurrence of lightning. However, this hypothesis has not been proven scientifically.
Diverse ideas which contributed by many scientists to decipher the mystery of the Catatumbo lightning. Some say that the Catatumbo lightning also triggered by the existence of methane. However so far, the most likely cause considered is the combination between the unique topographic and a closed wind circulation. *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | WIKIPEDIA | WDRB.COM]
