This Rhino is guarded by heavily armed rangers

Sudan is the name and for 24-hours, he was always accompanied by three or four heavily armed rangers in Kenya. Sudan is not a president, millionaire, or terrorist leader. Sudan is a 40-year-old rhino.

That makes him so tightly guarded, because Sudan is now the only male Northern white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum cottoni) which left in the world. Well, if Sudan dead and Northern White Rhinocheros, certainly extinct forever.

Ol Pejeta is the only hope, that the Northern White Rhinoceros can be sustainable. Not only guarded by the riflemen, Sudan also has been fitted with radio transmitter. The rhino’s horn has also been removed as an added precaution.

"The only reason his horn has been cut off is to deter poachers. If the rhino has no horn, he is of no interest to poachers. This is purely to keep him safe," said Elodie Sampere, conservationists at Ol Pajeta

The rhino hunting is one of the most massive in the world. In 1960, there were still 2,000 Northern White Rhinos in the world. Compare the condition in 1984, which lived only 15 individuals. Understandably, rhinoceros horn of this kind, is rumored to be sold for US. $.30k per pound.

Northern white rhinoceros is one of two species of the White Rhinos in the world. In addition to the Northern White Rhinos, there are Southern White Rhinoceros. For Southern White Rhinoceros, the population was estimated was not too rare, which has a population of about 17,000 in 2008 sensus.

As for the Northern White Rhinoceros, the hope is stay on Sudan. Prior to this, a number of artificial insemination efforts, including those conducted at the San Diego Zoo, the United States failed.
