5 new species of Armoured spiders found in China

Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences has discovered five new species of spiders in South China Limestone Mountains that lie in the province of Guangxi, Guizhou, and Yunnan.

Species found it had a plate with a complex pattern on the abdomen, similar to armored clothing. Spiders with these characteristics are known as Tetrablemmidae relatives. Types of spiders that live in tropical and subtropical climates and is usually found in soil and litter, as well as caves.

The newly discovered species live in caves and have adapted as indicated by the reduced number of eyes. Two new species of the Tetrablemma genus found only have four eyes.

The team of researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led by Professor Shuqiang Li studied more than 2,000 caves in the limestone mountains which is a UNESCO heritage site. They also reported finding a thousands of new species of spider cave.
