Indonesian Flyingboat

Indonesian Maritime Institute (IMI) makes the work to be proud of is by making Flyingboat GEVER-OS (Ground Effect Vehicle Revolution Enhance Ordinary Ship). A technology developed from the fusion of light aircraft by speedboat concept is ready to take off and land on the water surface.

The plane has been tested in scale models in Situ Gintung, Ciputat, South Tangerang-Banten, on Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Later in April 2014 according to the plan, the scaled 1 : 5 model prototype will be launch which has a weighing less than 15 kg.

"Hopefully the IMI's Flyingboat GEVER-OS works, this could be a solution to improve connectivity and monitoring the waters of Nusantara as well as being the pride of Indonesia," said Executive Director of IMI, Y. Paonganan in his press conference in Jakarta.

Paonganan explained, Flyingboat GEVER-OS including a fixed wing seaplane and also fitted with a hull, so allow it landing in the water. The advantage of course can land and take off, and a "lie down" in the water surface, so it does not require a runway. For use in the field of defense, flyingboat typically used for maritime patrol and air-sea rescue missions.

Further Paonganan said, it continues to enhance the work of the nation. Flyingboat GEVER-OS is expected to meet the challenges of maritime Indonesia, so that later Indonesia as the largest archipelago country in the world has the marine transportation vehicle, which is fuel efficient, also has high speed rather than a conventional speedboat, and able to fly at a height of 150 meters above sea level.

According to Paonganan, Flyingboat GEVER-OS is designed to meet the needs of coastal communities, islands, surveillance of coastal areas, handle of illegal fishing, roving water ambulances, inter-island teachers and doctors, mapping the sea, and use as a rides in disaster management at sea and islands.

Flyingboat GEVER-OS has a width of 220 cm, length 860 cm, height 290 cm, and wingspan 1,220 cm, with an empty weight of 900 kg, and a maximum weight of 1,600 kg. The aircraft can carry 4 passengers with 1 operator, has a cruising range of up to 1,200 km, maximum speed of 220 kph, and a cruising speed of 180 kph.

The flyingboat using the 98 octane RON/Avgas fuel that stored in its fuel tank as much as 220 liters and as a driving force is 520iS UL, 200HP, 5200cc, 6 Cylinder (UL-Power Aero Engine, Belgium). *** [EKA | FROM VARIOUS SOURCES | ANTARANEWS.COM]
